I generally know what day it is 07-20-08 09:58pm MST
After my slight slip up in my previous post I am glad to say that I have indeed figured out what the date is.

(I am so tempted to stop right there and let that by my blog entry, but I'm not going to do that... but pretend I did, okay?)

Bonnie and I are headed out on Tuesday to see family and friends in Alabama and Georgia. So, not that you were expecting any posts, but if you were, you probably shouldn't for a week or so. I hope everyone has a good week!

Thanks to all who have been asking about my health. I am doing well. Other than pulling my hamstring last week (I am getting older unfortunately) I have no complaints.
create_a_waywhere are you going in AL and GA???
bzyabsmaI don't know you, but saw your comment on Frederic's blog about you going to Athens AL to visit family and friends - I live in Athens (have forever). Also, since I usually try to do a little digging to figure out if I know someone before I comment on their blog, I realized you went on a trip with several people I know - Margaret Grant, the Bradfords, and I'm sure some others. Small world, Pleonast. :)

At 1:38 AM on Friday July 11th 07-18-08 01:41am MST
You thought I had disappeared and forgotten about you and this blog? Nope. I have been working on documenting over 6,000 pictures from my trip in May... and at 1:38 this morning (just a few moments ago)... I FINISHED! Okay, technically I finished my first pass, but it is going to be good enough until I feel I need to do more and fill in the question marks. But I am ignoring that. I finished. I wrote a 56 page document to give the basic details of 6,000 pictures.

Rejoice with me!
bbeasleyYou were up late like me, only I gave up about 12:30 this morning. I can't wait to go through all your pictures! Congrats!
pdawgWow!! That's a lot of work!! Rejoicing with you!!
jdiemanThe 11th was last week. Did you just wake up from all that work?
joepure craziness
sarahphimRejoicing! :)
teathymeI'm impressed!
jhaganWait, it isn't the 11th? Ug, you are right. I finished on the 18th. Perhaps I need more sleep.
laurabelleThat's incredible! It's amazing how much time it can take to document things! You will be grateful that you did so though b/c it's amazing how quickly you forget things that you thought "you'd never forget!" Hope that made sense!
all_gods_childrenWow! Glad to hear you are finished! Sounds like a lot of work, but very rewarding to see the final product!!!

Getting back to normal 05-22-08 02:40pm MST
The trip was great but exhausting. I love going on these trips. Not only do I learn a ton, but I also come back so motivated. Seeing the places in the Bible and growing in understanding at the struggles that the early Christians faced as well as spending time with great Christians of our day gets me focused and zealous.

There is so much that most Christians in America take for granted and do not understand. For many of us, Christianity is a religion of comfort and tradition. However those of the past and in other parts of the world today prove that Christianity is a matter of faith and conviction. They sacrifice everything for their faith. They give up their families and their standing in society. They give up their security and risk their lives. And I feel pretty confident that they cannot understand us. When they take such risks to assemble with the saints, how embarrassing it is for us when the slightest hint of a headache, or a few minutes extra homework or any number of other excuses keep us from assembling together.

I have over 6,000 pictures to go through. I have put a few online on my flickr account, but it will take a long time to get through all of these. Still, it is good to be home, and I am starting to feel like myself again.
bbeasleyAmen!
cdillman23I loved the pictures I have seen so far!! Looks like you had a great time!
riptideI havevent talked to her since she got engaged. A couple texts. I guess they just went to the court house to get married im not sure? Still havent met him yet.
create_a_wayI am so glad you got to go on that trip!
sarahphimGood thoughts. Glad you enjoyed your trip!
jayHope you are well. No probs w/the health right? I like your thoughts. There are some members I worship with that have a deeper understanding of what you are saying. I come from the comfort/tradition aspect, but I see what a lot of others go through and it almost seems they are from a different world.
molly24That is one trip I want to go on so badly! It seems so interesting and thought provoking.
bryanharwellI'm glad you enjoyed your trip. Sounds like it was a lot of fun.
joeWho in the world is Epileptic Bill Barbossa? lol Btw, wanna keep me in the loop for the next trip that comes around? :) I'm keeping a bunch of vacation time banked just for those occasions! :)
bbeasley:) Yeah, I thought about that too. Not that I would have considered it "counting" even if she had that authority.
create_a_wayHey buddy, how's your health?

Day... who knows 05-20-08 12:03pm MST
We got home early this morning (1:30 AM) after a 33 hour day of travel. Many of us were having internet access problems which is why there were no updates or pictures from me. I will start to work on all of that soon, but I am generally taking today off.

Day 4 05-09-08 11:52am MST
We are still and Izmir. I am having some internet problems here. I have access, but I cannot get even one picture to upload (just one picture has been trying to upload for about a half hour now). So I will hope for a better situation tomorrow night. For now, you will have to wait. I took just under 600 pictures today.

Today we got on the bus for about a 2 hour drive to Pergamum. The acropolis was fabulous. It was breathtaking. I can't wait to get pictures up and to get to talk about what all was there and its significance.

We went to lunch then saw some more ruins in Pergamum, hit a museum then headed toward Thyatira. Thyatira has very little excavation done there. There is a modern city built on top of the ancient one.

It is amazing how far apart these cities were. We drove the distance between them in a few hours, but thinking of travailing these roads on foot is impressive to think about. Paul's missionary journeys were truly journeys!

Tomorrow we leave this hotel. Hopefully I will be able to upload pictures tomorrow night. Then again, I might have no internet access at all.
amyjane72dad said in an email he sent me he has been amazed at the number of friendly children you all have encountered everywhere. he also said the wildflowers were really beautiful today.
joeI am so jealous (in a good way)!
all_gods_childrenVery cool to see the photos. I love the wall photo! Amazing!
ktayWait until I get to Colorado in August to preach about all of this, okay??? I want to hear all about it!
fantabularSounds like quite an adventure! =)
