Just one more thing... 10-03-08 03:49pm EST
Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement below!

I forgot to mention the best part of all and after reading Jenni's post I realized that I should have mentioned what that best part was!

Joe, my sweet husband, upon hearing my update from the doctor, immediately offered to go on my diet with me! He is not staying completely away from all breads and dairy, but is limiting them a lot and aiming to lose weight with me :)

I nearly cried when he told me of his support while I was driving home from my appointment :)

Thanks Babe!!!!!!

Introducing... 10-02-08 03:03pm EST
the new me :)

I just came back from the doctor. I know now what has been causing me to feel bad lately (for years probably). My silly body has a thyroid and it's just not working right. I also have lots inflammation in my body that could become dangerous for my heart (not good). (There are a few other things too, but these are the two "biggies")

So, I didn't want to go to a doctor who would just throw a pill/prescription at me and fail to beat me over the head and say, "Why do you eat that!?!", etc. So, I chose an OB/GYN who now practices both traditionally and "holistically/naturally". Well, you get what you pay for :)

I am now off of ALL wheat, dairy and eggs for one month :) I'm taking a few supplements to help bring down the inflammation and another for my thyroid. In one month or so they will check my blood again and see if the numbers are improved. I am going to do everything I can in my power to stay on this diet. So far I'm doing great (48 hours).

Now, if any of you have some hints for yummy meals with rice, veggies, meats and no dairy....

I would be greatly appreciative :)

Added benefit: the weight should be falling off during this process. Today I was 4 pounds lighter than Tuesday on the same scale at his office! Another great thing is that I can have a few dairy substitutes made from tofu. I tried the sour cream today as a topping for my vegetable soup and it wasn't bad.

Another great and wonderful thing!!!!! Ezekiel sprouted grain bread. I can have it and it's delicious. I am limiting myself to one slice a day to keep the weight falling off.

Once again... I know this is not the most exciting post but I truly thank you for listening and keeping my will power in your prayers ;)

Love you all!

tandielqEzekial sprouted bread is yummy! last year I started going to an OB/GYN that also practices naturally. He had me do a salive assay test and found some things that have really helped me. I am glad you have gotten some answers and hope this helps you to feel better. I have been wondering lately about my thyroid and all the weight I have gained in the past 5 months. Looks like I will be heading back to see him again!
sunnyleeyou are in my prayers!
snickers63Will be thinking of you. That thyroid stuff is tricky!!
mrs_rossheadYou might want to go to some vegan sites for recipes and just add meat to the recipes. Or fix meat on the side.
I know that you'll feel better. I felt great when I was on a vegan diet. But, I found meat here locally that is all natural. So, I'm doing a lot of vegan side dishes and then meat. I do feel better not being on dairy. Don't know why! but, I do. :)
matermagistraI am glad you have found an answer!

It concerns me that it seems more and more people are coming up allergic or having adverse reactions to dairy and wheat...two things that people have eaten since the beginning of time. Is there something (such as a chemical or hormone or something?!!!) that is being added into these things lately that is causing these reactions?
kaceyatthebatMy thyroid is messed up too, but I have been dealing with it for years. It can really make a person feel outta whack.
lonetteI sent you a bunch of recipes. Let me know what you think of them.
jennI recently checked out the Veganomicon cookbook - lots of a great tips on cooking veggies, and (I'm pretty sure) it has notes on which recipes are free from different stuff. The recipes looked pretty good, too!
fourkingsIs your doctor's name "Shemesh"? He has an OB/GYN practice and he is holistic... He delivered Chris if so.. I'm happy that you know what is going on with you now... Keep it up.. Keep us posted!!!
jerzgirlThis actually IS a very exciting post, my friend! My prayers are that you will get all the answers you need...hang in there and keep us posted about your progress!
didowI'm going to have to try those blueberry muffins. I'm on the Weight Watchers Core Plan. That basically means I can have no wheat or cheese. There are other things, but those are the ones I care about. I eat a lot of chicken cooked with various seasonings. I saute a lot of veges. Tonight I had chicken with Fajita seasoning (Yummy) and sauteed red/green bell peppers with onions seasoned with garlic salt (another yummy).
backtoblackMrs. Joe's wife, you KNOW I love you and will always keep you in my prayers!
staciIs your doctor a DO and part of a larger practice or does he/she have their own? I'm trying to learn all the differences between doctors. And, there's tons of gluten free stuff in regular grocery stores now. I'm impressed with how main stream its getting.
madam_librarianTina would say go to Trader Joe's they have tons of gluten free foods. (and I will agree with her on this). Is there one near you?
marksdenaI have thyroid issues too. I hope it all gets straightened out. I think that a diet that is medically necessary is much easier than one that is just to lose weight. You're doing great!
auntjennywrenI'm so glad you have an answer for not feeling good! It's nice to be able to be able to do something about it!
fussball11I'm praying for you! Keep us updated. Love you.
didowJoe is truly a wonderful guy. Y'all are going to just look great.
jerzgirlYes, he IS a sweetie! I am sending you both a hug!
jerzgirlP.S. After my two week vacation, two weeks home caching up, etc., my jeans are a little too snug. Yuck. In your honor (and so I don't have to buy new jeans)as you have to stay away from a lot of wheat products, I will join you too. Only not tonight because I already made the Friday night homemade pizza dough. ;) I CAN give up pretzels and other worthless carbs, though. Thanks for being a great example!
snickers63Misery loves company???? No, glad you have support!!
kasa_momPraying for your health and success in the lifestyle changes.
texasgroovychicAll you have to do is eat like MOM.... actually is pretty good.... eat a lot healthier that way
pdawgI have a very yummy Chicken Cilantro recipe (if you like cilantro) if you want it. There is no dairy or wheat or eggs in it and it is very simple to make. I don't know your email address though. Mine is on my pleo page.
textiletTough diet, but if it makes you feel better I think you won't mind so much in the end. Sweet husband, too!

My aunt gets millet bread that also is not made with yeast. I don't know where she gets it, but she lives in the Villages.

Rice noodles?

Isn't sourcream made with dairy?

Kasha!!! See recipes on the box.

Foot Washing :) 09-27-08 11:07pm EST
All over Tampa today there were people serving others. As I came home from a late night birth this morning I saw pickups full of furniture moving one of my sisters from one home to another. These are my brethren and I just happened to be a witness to their good deeds as I drove home.

In the afternoon we received a call (from Kristi) to come help with childcare and do some cleaning and painting at Becky Cawthon's old condo in preparation for her parents moving here on Tuesday. When I arrived with my two younger daughters (to assist with Kristy's little ones) I found a condo FULL of young married people up to their eye balls in refrigerator cleaning, handicap access updates of showers, oven cleaning, shelf lining, grout cleaning, paint prepping, carpet cleaning, toilet scrubbing, couch moving, appliance cleaning, and even filling the newly cleaned freezer with meals... and the list goes on. Becky had some college boys living there beforehand so the grime was substantial and it was a huge job. These young people are worth their weight in gold. It was a pleasure to just be with them some today and try to keep up! Thanks Stacy and Ryan, Chris and Kelly, Monica and Scot, Jenn, Abi, Kristi and all the others I didn't see from days before. God Bless you! As of tonight: Almost the entire apartment is freshly painted and ready for moving furniture in tomorrow!

Thank you Lord, for servants like these! We have a hope that will surely endure!
beckypertHow is Becky? I often think of her & wonder how's she doing since Steve's death. I know it has been a while but I also know it takes time. Tell her Hi from me..
beckypertYoung people are wonderful as they go about God's work!
debsherbsWhat a wonderful life we have as a child of God! We have wonderful brothers & sisters! And you my lady are a great one! God bless all of you
jerzgirlWhat a positive and uplifting post. YAY for all our young servants!
fourkingsYes, you are blessed with wonderful servants!! We were fortunate enough to be able to witness just the same love, committment and service from them when we moved! It IS so uplifting! God bless and keep all of you!
derbydiVery nice!
kaceyatthebatI have helped college boys clean up before a move so they could get their deposit back. It was the hardest cleaning job EVER! Kudos to all those wonderful people.
staciWe are so thankful for you! You and Joe helped us out tremendously when we were running short on hands and I really appreciate you helping Monica Saturday night. That was such a weight off our shoulders!
oudegekkemensAmen. Brethren helping brethren.
on_eagles_wingsThis was such an encouraging post. See the last paragraph of my blog! These kids are seeing the need and doing something about it! Good for them! :)
charliesangelJuline, i sent you an email :)

Have a wonderful week :) 09-22-08 11:17pm EST
I have to admit that I really don't have a lot to say tonight. I'm exhausted from a lovely homeschool co-op day. I got to see my big girl tonight :) I'm very tired.

Here's to a wonderful week in His service.

Note: Sadie is well :)
crazy_mamaGlad to hear she is well. Since we have the retreat this weekend and our first Sunday at Seminole I'm praying that no one gets sick. Tonight Noelani said her tummy hurt and I started asking her a million questions and she said "I think I'm just having some monster contractions!" Glad to know she's ok and I guess she hears the woman talking too much huh!!!!
jerzgirlBeen thinking about all of you. Glad that she is well!
fussball11Get some good rest! I'm glad Sadie is back to herself. That means you are too. :-) I love and miss you guys!
sunnyleeTHANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YOU!
lori_in_pa"exhausted from a lovely homeschool co-op day" -- I'm right in the boat with ya, friend. And it's gospel meeting week. And we're leaving right after church Sunday morning to go to hslist camp. And I'm trying to distill thoughts to teach a ladies Bible class there. It's all good, very good -- there's just a little too much of it. Blessings and energy be on us all.
textiletWhat a great start to a new week!
laughing_eyesyou have a wonderful week too!
nornieand you also.
ex_patPlease email me (email address on my home page) a dedication, thought or scripture that you would like put on the dedication page of the cookbook. We are also encluding camp directors etc. Thanks.
fourkingsWhat a nice type of exhaustion!!! Enjoy and rest up!
nornieI teared up. He looks like Prince/Beast. How awesome. ...and the lived happily ever after.
jdiemanGood luck with the disney moms. Keep us up to date if you hear back from them.

She is a little better! 09-18-08 10:37am EST
Yay! My baby is a bit better! I really hate using antibiotics unless absolutely necessary - they were definitely necessary. She is feeling better and better this morning :)

And....I finally heard from my dear friend in Texas. She said the 4-5 towns around them (including theirs) have NO power. She has no damage to her house, but many trees down. All of them are safe. Her husband is a fire fighter so they have plenty of resources and assistance from church members too. God has been gracious and sent them all a wonderful cool front these last few days. She says it has been absolutely pleasant even without the A/C. School is out until "further notice", they are eating hot meals every day (gas stove) and are as well as can be :)

Lots of reasons to praise God today :)
(1 older comment)
jerzgirlYay for Sadie! I still think about all those TX folks -- glad you got relatively good news from your friends. Jerry laughed at me when he read on my page that I had been "hiding" dishes from you!
amy_szaboThat's great news! Thanks for the encouragement! Things are good now!
charliesangelglad your friends are okay. So glad sadie is feeling better. we have had several kids at church come down with croup!! Ick!
bbeasleyGood news!
jerzgirlEach family dressed for pictures on the beach Tuesday night. I will share a few of those later. When I put out everyone's white shirts and khakis, Jerry said, "You're copying the ROSES!"
marksdenaSo glad that she is feeling better!
blagosloven_chovek^^jerzgirl^^ - who copied every other Florida family from the last few years!!
melissalI thought everybody copied it^ from the Reeses! Have you seen the communique? I think Haley should skip chapel once so she can get a Ziggy.
ilovepondsGlad to have an update on your friend. Have they lost everything in the freezer and fridge?
fourkingsYes, Thank Goodness that they are ok and able to have hot meals!!! YAY Sadie!!!
matermagistraHow are you liking the World of Adventure so far?

I have been looking pretty closely at Tapestry of Grace and find myself having to resist the siren song of "buy me buy me NOW". I am looking at it for next year, but have also heard great things about what you are using also.
motherofallGreat news! :)
oudegekkemensAntibiotics are God's gift to mankind. You should never withhold them from little girls that hurt. That would be like telling me you didn't want me taking Norco. I would become a raging lunatic.
oudegekkemensI know some overdo them but I'm sure you don't so if the throat is red and MD gives em. Take em. Especially with fever.

Take if from a nearly 57 year old who still has his tonsils.
jerzgirlHow is Sadie today? Is anyone else sick?
tennesseemomHope the sick are getter. Wonder what the Rose family well be watching this afternoon? I know what game we'll be watching at the Brown house. Hopefully the cable will not be acting up like it is now.
tennesseemomNothing like a little friendly competition!!
nzmomYour DoleWhip float was really refreshing this afternoon :)
tennesseemomThe game "ain't" over yet but I'm a little bit embarrassed to say that I'm a Vol fan.... I think the orange and white forgot to show up to play today.
tennesseemomsure we can still be friends. LOL At one point I thought I might as well start routing for the Gators.
miss_lesterwow, no power in 5 cities! that's crazy!
verny_mackThank you for your comment.
fussball11So far the meeting has been great! You can go to our website at www.roanridge.org to listen to the sermons. You can click on "sermon downloads" and/or "gospel meetings".
motherofallThank you very much for a wonderful day!! (We forgot to take pictures today!) Love, me.
kaceyatthebatSure, thanks!
