I can't wait to ship out for boot camp. If it weren't for my brother coming back home I would have already left. But because I want to spend a little more time with him as brothers under the same roof before we both go off on our careers, I wont be able to leave until January 20th. which is ok because it gives me plenty of time to get into shape and ready mentally to take on the task but I just want to get out. I love my family to death, hence the late shipping date, but I hate being a "dependent". I feel like I have to suffer through this time in limbo and it's incredibly frustrating. there are days that I am soooo close to walking into my recruiters office and asking for an earlier ship date. but then I think about my family and how much time I have left before I have to say goodbye to them so I end up wanting to treasure every last moment.
But in the end I'll live. It's only another 2 months and then ill be gone so not a big deal ;)
So I enlisted in the marines. my ship date is january 20th. my mos is field directions specialist.
That basically means I am not guaranteed specific job but I will get a job within that specific field.
The jobs in that field include Field Artillery Radar Operator (MOS-0842)
Field artillery radar operators perform the entire duties incident to installation, orientation, and operation of field artillery radar equipment. They prepare the radar equipment, power generator and associated equipment for movement and operation, lay communications wire, install and operate field telephones, perform preventive maintenance, construct field fortifications, and camouflage and protect the equipment position.
Field Artillery Fire Control Man (MOS-0844)
Field artillery fire control men perform duties essential to the delivery of accurate artillery fire to include position survey and fire direction computation. Typical duties include preparation of fire control equipment for movement and operation, performance of detailed survey operations, performance of preventive maintenance, routine testing, authorized minor repairs to survey and fire control equipment, and operation of field communications equipment. Fire control computation includes the use of computer equipment systems, plotting survey data on firing charts, determination of target coordinates, and the conversion to target coordinates and observer's reports into firing data and commands. MOS 0844 is assigned upon completion of formal school.
Artillery Meteorological Man (MOS-0847)
Artillery meteorological men assist in the delivery of accurate artillery fire by observing weather conditions and computing and distributing weather data for use in field artillery fire control. Duties include preparing weather observation equipment such as the anemometers, anemoscopes, and plotting boards for movement and operations; taking readings of atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity and barometric changes; calculating wind direction and velocity; obtaining readings at various altitudes by pilot balloon soundings; and using all data to compute, prepare, and transmit meteorological messages for the use of field artillery units. Other duties include performing preventive maintenance and making routine tests and authorized minor repairs to instruments and equipment.
Field Artillery Fire Support Man (MOS-0861)
Fire support men perform duties incident to the observation, conduct, and control of artillery and naval gunfire. These duties include calling for, observing and adjusting artillery and NSFS, employment of laser designators/ range finders, employment of radar beacons for NSFS support ships and coordination of fire support assets to include mortars, rockets, artillery, NSFS and CAS/CIFS.
I would be perfectly happy with any of those MOS's but there is one that I would love to get. However, the decision rests with the Marine Corp and what their specific needs are.
So i spend ten hours a night in the backroom at target pulling product to go out to the floor and handling backstock. well as you would imagine there is a lot of product that has to be moved in a super target so there is bound to be some breakage. This gets annoying. fortunately its not a big deal because there is just sooooo much stuff that breaking two or four bottles of rootbeer isn't a problem ;) .
its kinda funny. Almost every night someone is going to break or spill something whether it's while unloading the truck, on the sales floor, or in the backroom. the other day i found out what half a bottle of Gold bond powder smells like in a poorly ventilated backroom :D
Because it is inevitable that i am going to drop something during the night iv learned this remarkably simple, but effective, trick to keep the dropped product from breaking. It goes like this.....
so im standing in a cramped aisle (everyone take a minute to ponder the complete ridiculousness of the word "aisle" who decided to put an a in front of isle and make it mean an indoor lane? whatever moving on) and i am pulling a simple bottle of gatorade off the shelf. easy enough right? EEEEEEHHHHH someone put a glass bottle of water right next to the gatorade bottle so when it gets pulled off the shelf the glass bottle falls off with it. simple mistake. so the glass bottle is falling if i cant catch it with one of my hands all i have to do is get my foot underneath it. my foot will break its fall and the bottle will clatter to the floor unharmed. TUDAAAAAAAAHHH
This movie is by for the movie of the year if not the movie of the past TEN years!
For me it has surpassed every movie that came out in the past ten years. And yes that does include the recent Star Wars installations.
First of all Heath Ledger perform the Joker in an absolutely perfect manner. he showed his insanity but portrayed his brilliance too. He gave you something to stare at in disbelief but still laugh at. truely remarkable.
Then there is the story. of course you know how it is going to end but that is how every movie is. you dont get on a roller coaster just to get to the other side of the track lol. the depth of the story was tremendous. there were sooo many things that could have been done and soooo many routes that could have been explored.... there still is! Im still going over the possibilities of defferent events in the movie.
The Characters were incredible as well. Each was there to model a specific thing. Joker(pure evil), Harvey Dent(How easy it is to fall), Commissioner Gordan(The rock in the storm), Batman(The silent Protector). all of these character could be explored to incredible lengths!
so I'm back in Minnesota. I have a job. I work at Target overnights, i pretty much just stock the shelves all night its not the best job but i would say it is pretty good for someone my age. what is kinda pathetic is the older people who work there doing the same job i do... they havent progressed at all in almost 15 years! its kinda pathetic. But it isn't my life.
right. i am going to college for that reason. But if someone was just taking the job because they had to inorder to feed their families i would commend them for it. but as you said they are just doing it because its the minimum need to feed their families with no steps toward improvement.
