My First Deer 11-25-08 08:07am CST
A couple of weekends ago, I went on my second hunting trip this year and actually shot a deer. It was quite an experience. We took the deer to the processor; received it back this past weekend; I made a beef and noodles dish with some of the meat last night, yet didn't eat any myself. Todd and Cody said it was really good and didn't have a "wild" taste at all. I have some sort of mind to stomach connection about it...I just have a hard time eating anything out of the "norm." I'm glad they enjoyed it, though.

Stony Point is still in the playoffs. They play Garland this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Baylor. Go Tigers!
kimgriffithThat is awesome!! Who knew you were such a hunter! You always seem to impress me:)
sponjenThants funny! I can't picture you shooting a deer:) I probably couln't eat it either;) Hopey you guys have a Happy Thanksgiving!
pistal77that is cool!!
windham4lifeWow, that is crazy. I could never get the guts to shoot a deer, or eat the deer that I shot! lol... as long as I don't think about the animal, I can eat it just fine. Conrats to Stony point! That is great!
kalawiThat's awesome that you shot a deer! I've never even gone hunting! :)
roseofsharonI'm impressed! Being related to all those boys is rubbing off on you. I'm not sure I could do the hunting - but I can do the eating if it's not too gamey.
maryelThat is way cool! My mom was quite the deer hunter. She knew how to cook venison so it didn't have a "gamey" taste to it. Did you keep the head for mounting?
misslynnGood for you! Did you like how I "honked" you out of the way last night?? I told Lou that you were the only one that I could honk at that would know I was teasing you and she said, "Oh that Kathy is such a sweet thing!" And we both laughed when you shrugged your shoulders and scooted to the side with a mischievous smile! Love you!
mamagoodThe spaghetti was great! We enjoyed staying with you.

My First Hunting Trip of the Year 10-31-08 08:33am CST
I'm off to Lampasas tonight after Stony Point's football game. Go Tigers! They're playing Vista Ridge -- a little friendly rivalry there! Christena is going to the game with me (since Cody will be busy in the Blue Crew) and then we'll all three join up with Bret and Todd in Lampasas. I'm looking forward to it, although I'll just observe the hunting on this trip. The weather is supposed to be perfect -- great for seeing the stars tonight. (The stars are so much prettier outside of the city.) We'll be back on Saturday in time to watch the Horns whip the Red Raiders!
blueeyesHave a great time! Thank you!
csusoftballgirlhave fun! Do you ever hunt, Kathy? It's hard for me to picture your cute little petite frame with a rifle:)
kalawiHave fun! I love being out in the country and star-gazing!
kimgriffithAre ya'll staying in "the cabin"? Sounds like so much fun. I hope the horns do whip the rr but I'm still a little scared. We are going to a wedding that is not longhorn friendly so we are trying to figure out how we can rigg a tv up in our car w/ local channels. have fun stay safe!
bekSounds like a fun weekend. Enjoy it!!!
windham4lifeHope you have a fun trip. I like Lampasas. It's a nice lil town!
ewalkerSounds like fun!
misslynnYou must be kidding! I can totally see Kathy in camo toting a big ol' shotgun or deer rifle! Have fun on your weekend getaway!
pistal77You have always been an great help for me; refering to the previous post.
amberaHave a great time!
sponjenI know! The last 8 seconds was horrible, I couldn't watch. I just knew that tech would jet down the feild...and sure enough!
kendraluluHow was it?
kendraluluThanks! We went to Craig's parents for the week. Craig went hunting a few times, but didn't get anything.
kalawiThanks so much for opening up yalls house to us for the retreat! It was also good to see you there today. I hope Cody gets to feeling better soon!
diannaThank you so much for your's and Todd's hospitality!! What a treat this year to have the retreat and your house. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
imaprettypenguinI wanted to come to the first class so bad!! We usually have Thursday nights off too. We are all getting over being sick though.
kimgriffithI can not thank you enough for "that". I'll have to call you sometime soon to talk. I will say there have been a lot of prayers and Todd's lesson on "entitlement" really hit home for me in reference to that. Prayer gives you peace and I feel like I truly have peace. Thanks and you are such a great sister in Christ!!
kendraluluThank you! It's in Vanderpool; about 3 hours from CP. You should go next fall.

Pondering Parenting 10-11-08 09:42pm CST
We had a wonderful gospel meeting this week with David Banning. For those of you who are young parents, take hold of the ideas about expectations as your kids get to their teenage years. Mr. Banning is so right about that! There was a lady in my congregation where I grew up that was always so vocal to me about expectations, yet I had never thought of her comments in that exact light at the time. Along with that, she was a great encourager, often saying positive things to me and others. I really looked up to her my years in Middle and High School. We all can do those types of things for one another's kids, but we need to get to know them to do that (that's for me). Also, what a good tool to teach your kids, reverse peer pressure. Thanks to those of you who have little ones. They have been doing such a good job walking!
kimgriffithYou are always so encouraging...thanks. I'm sure I speak for many of the young parents when I say that we look up to you and Todd as an example of how to raise faithful Christian children.
misslynnI thought the meeting was great, too! I hope we can have David back again in a few years. I eagerly looked forward to each lesson. And you are right about encouraging adults. I had a teacher in high school that really encouraged me one day, and I will never forget him.
maryelReverse Peer Pressure!! I think that should be patented/copyrighted. Or let's start a movement. How helpful that would be to kids in school/college. Also, Aedan catches alot of flak from the soccer team because we go to church instead of games on Sunday. Right now it's rolling off him, so that's good. He really likes all the boys at CP. He is looking forward to the youth devo meetings next year, (when he's the appropriate age/grade.)
amberaI agree, I loved the conversations I had with loving adults as a child. I need to try to do the same. Thanks for your example. :)
kimgriffithI didn't know it was out there either but it is now going to be a 'tradition' of ours. ps. i am having the hardest time getting any pics up on my blog...any suggestions? )
imaprettypenguinI love that! It's so true. It something I am learning to do with Emma. It's a hard habbit to learn but I know it will be an awesome tool as she grows! I enjoyed the class tonight. You are so sweet!
bekThank you!!! We are SO EXCITED!!!!
imaprettypenguinI am so glad to be back with you and the congregation there. I've missed you all so much. Thank you for giving us such a warm welcome!! We are trying to hang in there. I know everyone is right now. We're just having to make some major cut backs. Including traveling right now. But also Joshm, I'll have to tell you more detail, but he had a meeting with Paul and it went so great! I couldn't even imagine it!! thank you for keeping us in your prayers.
karriwebbsampleWe just love you guys and are so thankful for you. You and Todd are the best examples to us and the dearest of friends!!!
karriwebbsampleOops, we also had a wonderful time tonight. Thanks ssssooooo very much!
loisHey - we need to get together again some time for lunch. Maybe before the holidays - if possible!
loisSounds good. give me a call when you get back.

I've been tagged, so here's 8 random facts about me 09-27-08 11:13pm CST
1. Almost went to interior design school, but opted for court reporting school instead.
2. I love Court TV and really want to attend the Yogurt Shop trial.
3. Blew off our front porch in West Texas when I was a preschooler.
4. Like to read mysteries.
5. Cleaning and organizing is my specialty, but cooking is not.
6. Played the saxophone in junior high and high school.
7. Can't seem to keep from laughing when someone trips or falls.
8. Can't manage without my rocking chair.
kalawiThat's crazy about #3!
iamchriswindhamI can't believe they still haven't solved the Yogurt Shop murders! That's so sad]
loisI think I've witnessed #7 several times.
kimgriffith#7 cracked me up. I have laughed out loud at a movie theater when someone fell with popcorn and I could not stop laughing even though I felt really bad for them. I am totally surprised that Todd likes sushi and you don't. I try to get Rett to go eat sushi and he does but then when we leave he asks...can we please stop by whataburger (even in Maui).
sponjen#7 is me too! I seem to laugh at a lot of things, usually when I'm not suppose to be laughing. Like in services when the kids to something funny, it always seems more funny than it actually is for some reason and I can't stop!
adelineyay were friends
diannaWhat?! You blew off a porch! That's crazy and kinda funny. Maybe I could use your interior design instincts one of these days!
roseofsharonI'm with you on #8! And explain #3 please. Also, no wind in West Texas or no hills to drive over?
pistal77wow that is some interesting facts.
misslynnAbout #3, Steve didn't blow off the porch, but he did set a fire underneath his house (in the crawl space) when he was young to warm up when it was cold outside!
csusoftballgirlI can't get away from proper punctuation in text messages, either:) I LOVE having a grammar buddy!!
loisI remember him. Didn't he have an office right next to my desk on the 13th floor? BTW - thanks for the tag!
misslynnThanks for the comments about my class. Oh, about the Spark Plug Award, it was for being what I call "terminally perky"!!
theparksyes, i kept it in the house, in my room, in an aquarium....one night, i came home, and he had somehow gotten out and my mom was in my room with a coat hanger, trying to get him! she was a little freaked out!
kendraluluThey can be mean too. We use to have some and as soon as you turned around they got you on the back side. :)
kimgriffithRett actually really enjoyed it and would update me every day. Congrats on the new grand"dog", I guess that was their response to the comment from Todd during services :).
stephmc10i just don't see why anyone would get pleasure from being scared.... it's beyond me.
kimgriffithThey layout looks so good! Have a good weekend.
sellungHi Kathy I love that you put up the picture of the candy bouquet
sellungCarl put up the Grandpuppy on the screen saver, I guess when the grandbaby comes in Nov. she will take the Grandpuppies place.

csusoftballgirlYummy!
ewalkerCool!
skilarioHaha, I cant believe you deleted your posts! :)
kalawiThose candy bouquets look awesome and delicious!!
roseofsharonDid someone send it to you? Or did you make it? It wasn't your birthday.
kimgriffithYou are so talented! It looks great. Todd did a really great job with the lesson last night. I really appreciate him caring for all of that much. It only helps us be better parents and Christians.
amberaThat looks so yummy!! :)
amberaThanks a bunch for your encouraging words! :)
diannaThank you for the encouragement. I think ladies' class went much smoother than trying to go to lunch. Ben's behavior was much worse then and in hind sight I should have followed my gut and just had lunch at home. :\ I'm still learning all this mommyhood stuff. ;)
kendraluluThat's really neat! :)
csusoftballgirlI tagged you! Check out my blog. :-)
