Today is our 7th wedding anniversary! My how time flies. Both working today. Scott had to go pretty early this morning and I have to go to Stafford all day. Gonna be a busy day...but a happy one :o)
BTW...speaking of anniversary stuff...Steve preached a good lesson on family and marriage yesterday morning. If you want the link to the sermon site email me...I have NO idea how to post a link...or maybe you already have it.
And...since the Texans won yesterday, I'll post this for your enjoyment (nothing to do with anniversary BTW)
Oh, my guys always love the goats in the petting zoo (at all ages they have). The children's zoo has that and the carousel is near there. Otherwise, I would try to see animals that he would recognize, ones that he routinely sees in books or has learned what they 'say' etc. The sea lions are fun to watch swim. We went when Justin was 15 mo, and it was fun! Take lots of pictures :-)
If you guys are not napping after Thanksgiving dinner, it would be fun to get together! Of course, we *must* be where Toby can listen to the Aggie slaughter at 7:00!
LOL Yea, I should probably be out looking for the toy today. I found one at Dollar General later Friday (and it was not a mad house there!). I know--the mall and shopping here is an adjustment for us small-town folks! I'll have to remember to stock up and "hunker down" for December next year!
I'm bumping Scott's comments down to post some cute pictures I got today.
I had a training presentation in Huntsville this morning so my mom and Ethan decided to go along for the ride and shop a little while I was working. Then we met Mr. Todd for lunch at Wendy's by the university.
I tried to get Ethan to say Todd...all he got out was "odd" so we figured we would stick with "Hi". :o)
Mr. Todd has some cool shades and Ethan loves to wear them when he's around.
Ethan gave Todd a kiss all on his own...camera was too slow...but I did get a couple of good ones with our friend. It was nice to see Todd today and visit over lunch. Even though I think Ethan grossed Todd out spitting out a nice mixture of way too much food in his mouth. Yeah...if you don't have kids...something to look forward to.
Have a good weekend :o) Kim (for real, it's me, not Scott)
Ok...seriously.... "odd" works just perfectly for Todd... ;) lol Ok...any chance we could get a play group together on Tuesday December 9th or Wednesday December 10th???? That way I can see everyone in 1 shot.... I don't have everyone's e-mails & am short on time right now.... let me know what you think!
Awesome! Its good to hear from you, yeah life is pretty good other than the sub freezing weather here ALL THE TIME!! What was i thinking. I'm new to pleonast so still trying to figure it out. Y'all pictures look awsome, what a cute little fella! We are worshiping here in Duluth wit habout 15 others, all mostly Texan transplants which makes it nice. Hope all is well. KEEP IN TOUCH!
Hello, this is Scott, not Kim. I’m not going to make this a habit of writing on my wife’s blog. In fact, I may never do this again, but I feel it is necessary to say some things about all the political back-and-forth that’s been going on in the last few months. No, it’s not going to be about this whole depressing election, but about something of greater importance.
There are many who believe that this nation has drifted away from the Constitution, that we are in imminent danger of losing our liberties and our prosperity if we don’t change our direction quickly. Well, this might be true. Then again, is the point of our existence on this earth supposed to be centered on things like individual liberty and physical prosperity? I certainly would not want to lose such things, but I believe we have a higher responsibility. Ecclesiastes 12:13 tells us this: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all.” This is the purpose of our existence. This is what’s needed to be discussed.
But let’s talk for a little while about the Constitution. Yes, we are a free people who have a say-so in how we are governed. We have the right to vote on who we want to represent us, and we can contact those representing us through phone calls, letters, emails and by other means to influence them on how to vote on legislation. We have a right to be politically active. We live in a democracy (although there are some who would debate to what extent) with a Constitution that protects our rights to do these things. But while the Constitution may be one of the greatest documents ever devised by man and is the foundation for our particular type of government, it is not a moral authority.
The Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution in 1791. The first of these ten amendments protects our right to free speech. But here’s the problem. It was written in a deliberately vague manner. What does free speech mean? Unfortunately, what the courts have concluded is that some adult content and dirty language in books, magazines, radio programs, television programs and movies are protected under freedom of speech. There is nothing in the Constitution that prohibits any of this.
The tenth amendment is the “state’s rights” amendment, giving the states powers that the Constitution does not prohibit. Now we have laws in several states allowing for lotteries, casino gambling, horse and dog racing, and other types of gambling. The states of Massachusetts and Connecticut allow gay marriages, and the state of Nevada has legalized brothels. The Constitution does not prohibit any of these things.
There have been seventeen more amendments added to the Constitution since the original Bill of Rights. One of these, the eighteenth, ratified in 1919, prohibited the manufacture, sale and transportation of alcoholic beverages. Fourteen years later this amendment was repealed by the twenty-first amendment. So making and selling alcoholic beverages was legal, then illegal, then legal again. (As a side-note, according to the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration, there were almost 13,000 fatalities in alcohol-related accidents in 2007, more than three times the total number of deaths of American soldiers in the five and one-half years of the Iraq war. Why isn’t America screaming for the abolition of alcoholic beverages like it’s screaming to end the war? Because while most Americans hate war, most like to drink.)
So what am I concluding from all of this? Unfortunately, for those who want to use the freedoms and rights protected under the Constitution for wrong-doing, they can. The Constitution is not a moral document, so it can be and is being used to protect sinful practices. Strict adherence to the Constitution does not mean that things will get better for the United States. American citizens and governmental officials can follow the law to the “T” and still indulge in sinful practices protected by law. Only the gospel of Jesus Christ can truly change the heart and mind of a person. The gospel never changes; there are never any amendments to this Law. This is the foundation on which we should be standing on and arguing for.
You know, I thought for the longest time we Houstonians were cheated out of all the pretty fall colors we see in pictures around the country. Last year I realized it's not that...it just happens at a different time!
Since I've been priviledged to work from home the last few years I've been out during the daytime hours a little more and finally do see we get a color change. It might also help that I have a tree right outside my office window that I see pretty much everyday. Guess driving to and from work in the DARK didn't help much either :o)
I just noticed some trees around changing today as I drove home from my moms. I do miss all the vines that had sort of grown over Northpark and made such a pretty area. That was either blown down, knocked down or torn down after the hurricane. I hope it grows back up. Funny the things we don't pay that much attention to, but miss when they are gone.
Great points...and I love fall (except for that hurricane season thing...). There is a great empty lot in our subdivision that has small brushy trees that are all red this week (sumac maybe?)...very pretty!
I've been meaning to see if you had these links for helps on pleo. My favorite help is at how to, and there's a group that answers a lot more questions about pleo at Pleo Guide. If you have those, just ignore!
