Hey Everybody, just found out I'm having a niece, pretty cool, eh?:)
3 Years And Still Going Strong
Today, October 22nd, 2008 is Fred and I's 3 year anniversary.
It's hard to believe that the day we exchanged vows is already 3 years passed. It has been a wonderful 3 years and I've loved every bit of it. God has truly blessed me.
A Few Little Tid Bits For Ya...
Fred and I have lived in a different state every year since we've been married, we're actually on our 4th.
One of my new favorite books is the Shack, if you haven't read it yet you should.
I am going to be an aunt for the first time in March...I can't even tell you how excited I am about this one.
I am married to an actuary, for those of you who don't know what that is (which I imagine is most of you b/c I had no clue what it was till rescent years), it is someone who typically works with math and statistics a lot to do risk analysis for insurance companies and other businesses, that's about as much as I know, you'll have to look up the rest.
I just got a job today...I was actually hired on the spot. I will be working for an OB/GYN and this will be the 3rd one that I've worked for...all in different states.
I love fall, it is the best season in my mind, there is nothing like the changing leaves and the cool crisp air which makes it perfect for camping and fires.
I need you or Fred to give me some movie suggestions for Netflix. I have "Son of Rambow" on order for Devin, I showed him the trailer, he can't wait to see it.
I am so sorry I missed getting to see you guys;(
I pray your trip was worth it and you both had a blast. I'll be visiting your way some time after the new year. I'll give you a heads up before I promise. Yall have a safe weekend!
We've been living in Columbia for about a month now and I've very much enjoyed my break from work but it's time for me to get back at it again...I'm starting to get a little bored. I'm wanting something that can be flexible and just part time. I would also prefer to have something where I don't sit all day, I like to move around. I would appreciate any suggestions or input anyone has of what type of job I should apply for:) For all I know there may be some out there that I just haven't thought of yet. All I have is my AA, I'm not looking for anything spectacular, just something that will keep me busy. Suggestions and/or ideas would be much appreciated.
Onto another subject. Fred and I enjoy being outdoors and we're both wanting to get bikes. We don't want the cheapo kind from wal-mart or target but we can't exactly shell out $700 bucks for one. We would probably do most of our biking on paved trails...I'm no hard core mountain biker:) But I'm sure there will be some off roading too. What kind of bike is best for that and is there a brand anyone would reccomend that would be in the 2-350 dollar range?
Sorry for the randomness above^. Fred and I have been doing great so far, he's really enjoying his job. He's going to be pretty busy till January, he's studying for his VEE exams. They're courses that he didn't get in college that he needs to have for his job. He's taking a micro and macro economics course as well as finance, he's taking them all in January so he's been staying at work till about 7pm so he can get some study time in. I got to visit FL about a week after we moved here, which was awesome of course! I hadn't been there in way too long, it was so good getting to see my grandma, the Slone family (especially Landon, Noah and Carter!) and the Snapp family.
Fred and I enjoyed a nice trip to Charlotte this weekend and got to see friends from when we lived there. We had a blast playing rock band with the Nettles and Franklins Saturday night (if you haven't played this game yet you need to, however, it is extremely addictive and loud!). We're only an hour and a half away from Charlotte so we'll be able to do easy weekend trips up there lots.
Well, that's about it for now, sorry for the long post and hope everyone's doing great!
Hate hate hate that I missed seeing you two this past weekend :( I had a migraine the wkd you were in town and then this past wkd my back went out on me. I tell you if it aint one thing it's another. Not sure what to tell you about the job, I'll agree with you on the stir crazy part and wanting flexibility and not sitting around. I haven't found anything right for me yet. At this point we don't need for me to work but I wouldn't mind working part-time if I could find something that worked out for us.
I know, and they were my team for a long time! But to be honest, I liked them because of Steve Garvey and I was from Ca. The Rays have come a long way and it would be great to see them win since they have never been this far or even close for that matter!
hmmmmm. a job that keeps you moving? how about being a mommy? :) seriously though, you would be great at anything. look for a used bike shop around you by the way. you may find a great deal or at least someone who could point you in the right direction of one.
If you rent "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" we can watch it when we get there with you. How was the run? I bet you zoomed to the front and beat everyone!
To sum it up into one word--BUSY!! Last week was a good, but very long week as gospel meeting weeks always are. We made it every night except Thursday and I had taken Jacob to the Dr. that day with an ear infection. :( Luckily, we had a long weekend, but it's back to work tomorrow morning. At least it's only a four day week!
I just make two pies, the crust is chocolaty and the filling is a white chocolate mousse and then I made a raspberry sauce to go on it. It's for Bunco, I sure hope it tastes good. I am trying to make chocolate curls and am not having a bit of luck with it. I even googled it.
If you are interested in REALLY jumping on, I'll create a group that you TOO can post to daily. Then YOU will also succeed! How was your visit with your parents?
I know I'm no expert at economics but does it make sense that the government wants to create more credit when it was too much credit that got us into this mess in the first place. I just don't know about all these bail outs. Would our economy really suffer that much more if we let them fail. I just don't get how big company's can give out loans right and left, good and well knowing that the people getting the loans won't be able to pay them off if their ARM's go up. And on the flip side, should we try to help all of those out who were trying to live above their means. I think the American mentality has become a bit ridiculous...it's always more, more, more, what happened to living within your means and being content. I know there are those who have extenuating circumstances but for the most part it's come down to greed and wanting more than they can afford.
Hopefully if we can get anything out of this downward turn it will be this, to learn to be content w/what we have. If you don't have the cash up front (other than for a car, school tuition or home) then don't buy it. Try to put aside an amount each month and actually save some...learn to budgett! I think schools need to implement budgetting in their curriculum.
Well, what do you all think of these bail outs, for them or against them? Like I said, I know I'm no economist so I would love to hear your opinions.
I don't know either! I agree that way too many americans are living beyond thier means and this could really shake things up and maybe make people realize they can't have something just because they want it.
I don't like the term "bailout". There needs to be accountability on the parts of those who need to pay back the loans. Our society is SOOO spoiled (and I know I'm part of that group!) and expects to have everything we want right away. But I'm about ready to quit watching any news. Between the politics and financial woes, it's all very depressing and wearisome!
I think cash up front for a car is a good idea, too! We've had some $1000 clunkers, but they got us through until we could move up to something better. Borrowing for anything that loses value is not a good idea.
Well good thoughts--lets look at the word itself bail--release after a security is paid/Deliver something in trust to somebody for a special purpose and for a limited period/Secure the release of (someone) by providing security. In the judicial system you post bail or bail someone out but there is always payback--that is what I am worried about. You can bail someone out but somwhere, somehow they are going to ask for it back. So therefore because others have lived above what they can afford it has caused others that have not done that to pay for those. We are doing the Dave Ramsey thing and he talks of that all the time, meaning saving and if you don't have DON'T BUY IT! Sure there were days when we used to enjoy those luxuries but now we don't. I sure wish schools would teach budgeting and more finance, unfortunately the world is all about money and you need to know how to use it wisely. Everything is fast and wanting things that others have and that is not the way to live, some have it and some don't so just be content with what you have. I need to ck myself on that sometimes. Ppl need to think what is most important in their lives, which for me and my house, we are thankful for our health, famiies, and sharing times with others. Our world is changing so much that it is hard for us not to get caught up in it but we all need to think at the end of the day what is most important it is not the money in the bank/pocket. We need to stop trying to keep up with the Jones and strive for our home in Heaven.
I don't know either but it seems to me that we are just pushing the problem off for our kids and grandkids to deal with. Everyone needs to get their spending under control - from the government down to the little man. Now we (unlike the government) can't just print more money when we write a bad check so I think we are the ones that are ultimately going to have to fix that problem. We try to use cash for everything and it sure makes this time not as scary to know that we only have a house payment. I don't know how some people can sleep at night worrying about this!
I think the truth of the matter is that if we don't bail companies out, we do face a time (about a year) of depression-like economy. It will be a struggle.
However, if we do bail everyone out, we make the problem so much bigger that we eventually will face a true great depression of a much longer 10-year (or so) period.
In any case, at some point we will suffer for the lack of responsibility--it's just up to us to stand up now and "take it like a man" or bail everyone out and try to explain to our children in the future why we live in a depression.
Thanks for the prayers and the offers to help--watch out, I might just take you up on that one of these days!! Missed y'all this morning again, I hope we'll see you soon. :)
I really appreciate it. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Luckily, Jacob is in school, so we have the same schedule, and Tanner is in day care now during the day. However, there might be an occasional shopping day when I might like to go alone... :) Hope to see y'all Wed. night. Since it's the first Wed. of the month, it will be singing night--my favorite!!
just thought of you, was about to leave the house when I caught a glimpse of my shirt in a mirror as I walked by and saw a tag sticking out, yup, almost went out with my shirt on inside out.; )
Have you ever had one of those dreams, where it was so good that even though you weren't tired when you woke up you tried to fall back asleep so you could finish it. I had one of those last night/this morning and it was awesome! I call it Kristie-Topia, it was my perfect little world. It started out with me winning the lotto for 20 million dollars (which I know sounds ridiculous, that's why it's called a dream), and don't ask me how I won it seeing as how I don't play the lotto and didn't even dream about playing the lotto, I just won it somehow. Fred and I were trying to figure out what to do with this money so we decided to buy 300+ acres w/some of it. We built ourselves a house, a gym (w/full size olympic pool, diving board and basketball court, plus other equipment...my dream was very detailed:), and a nice big building for a church.
We called up Don Truex (my favorite preacher ever, the one whom I grew up with) and talked him in to moving up here to help us start the church. We ended up building houses for all the people we ended up moving up here and all lived on the 300 acres. We talked Todd and Missy into moving up and built a nice little office building for his office complex for all the rocket ready guys. In that office was the bank that my brother Devin decided to start (w/the chunk of money we gave him) and uncle Tim and all the loan officers that work for him came up to work at Devin's bank. It was awesome, all of our friends and family were up here together. Oh, and I can't forget my brother Ryan, we moved him and Erica and her parents here along with Fred's family. We all lived in Kristi-Topia. There were actually quite a few other family's from Temple Terrace that we moved here as well but it would take too long to list them all.
We grew our own food and had fresh yummy veggies and fruit from the garden every day. We also had farm animals, my dad was in charge of the agriculture stuff and animals b/c he was the only one who could handle the butchering (he grew up on a farm...in real life). We built huge picnic tables where we would all eat pot luck style at after church, that wasn't the only time we ate together though. We had dinners for anyone who wanted to come every night. There was also a day care center, which my mom ran of course since she loves kids more than anyone I know, so mom's could drop them off whenever to go and do their thing. It was the perfect world.
And then...my dog barked and woke me up, unfortunately I was never able to get to sleep to finish it but it sure was great.
Yup I'm moving I can take care of the all the wounds, breaks, sickness, and shots--LOL there is always something that ruins that dream that is the best dream you are dreaming and then you try so hard to go back to sleep and it is gone, the bad ones are the ones I can't shut off. Sounds kinda amish in a way, how they all live near and eat, build and take care of each other.
Wow, so detailed! I like the school, not sure we need that much security. ; ) I am only working the daycare part-time, I need time at the house to bake bread which I will have become a pro at.
To answer Jessie's question...no, we would live right here in SC, right between the beaches and mountains so we could take fun trips every weekend:) And we could wear whatever we wanted and ride cars, don't worry jess, it's not some creepy mormon compound and we wouldn't be amish...I'm all for electricity.
lol just read your post up above. That is way too funny...did you take any medicine before you went to sleep? Sounds like some of the wacky stuff I used to dream when I was on ambien. LOL
We're back from Prince Edward Island, Canada now. PEI is a beautiful place with gorgeous beaches and awesome sand dunes. It's such a clean place, it's very "green". They take such good care of their land, people there just don't litter and everyone and i mean literally, everyone composts and recycles...even fast food restaurants. Unfortunately it rained half the time we were there and was chillier and windier than normal, luckily it got back to normal the last few days we were there though.
The flight back from PEI was not so pleasant. We arrived bright and early at 6:30 am to catch our 8:30 flight back to the US. We stood in an unmoving line behind a huge tourist group of Japanese children for a good 2.5 hours and was not told till then that our flight had been canceled. Everyone had their flight pushed back to the 4:00 flight so we went up to the front desk to confirm our flight. We were no where on that flight and got bumped to the 3pm flight for the next day. We were stuck in Canada with no car and no place to stay. Fred's mom called and booked us a hotel for us to stay the night at, which Delta did not pay a dime for. We had to take a cab to the airport the next day (and man, our cabbie was interesting, he had some beef with the U.S. and was telling us all about how the Americans have taken credit for all kinds of stuff the Canadians did...I couldn't really understand most of what he said because of his accent but that's the brunt of what he was talking about). We made it onto our flight and they took us to Boston. We were suppose to connect from Boston to ATlanta and then from Atlanta to Nashville. Our layover between Atlanta and nashville was only 45 min and our flight from Boston ended up getting delayed forever so we missed our flight to Nashville. Delta once again did not pay for hotel that we only got to sleep in from 1:30 in the morning till 7am. I wanted to get my luggage before we went to our hotel but the customer service rep told me the luggage was being loaded on the plane and I could not get it so they gave us an over night bag. When we finally made it to Nashville my luggage did not make it, I was pretty livid at this point. Finally at work this morning they brought my luggage to me and everything was there and in tact...the moral of this story is to never ever ever fly with Delta, they have no problem with making you pay for a ticket and then not following through with their end of the deal. They blamed everything on weather even though all the other flights seemed to be flying out with no problem.
O.K, sorry about the rant about Delta but I had to get it off my chest. Here's the big news, we're moving, again! Fred finally got a good actuarial job but it's in Columbia, SC. He starts September 2nd and we'll have to move on 8/29. Everything's been a bit of a whirl wind so sorry if I haven't seen you or talked to you in awhile:) If you know of anyone in Columbia I'd love to get their name or info, I don't know a soul there so it's a little intimidating, I've known people every place I've moved to so this is a first. The good news is that we'll be much closer to family and the obvious good news...that Fred has not just a job but a career now. Hope everyone's doing well and sorry my post is so long.
Later,
Kristie
P.S....If any of you Nashvillians want to send some old news papers our way we'd greatly appreciate it. I get a little crazy wrapping things about 20 X's over but I haven't broken a single thing in either move yet so it's workin for me. Thanks for your help!
Hey Kristie! How's everything in columbia so far? We've been thinking about you guys this past week and hoping that everything went smoothly! It's not the same without you guys here in Nashville! We miss you already!
Glad to hear you guys survived the move. You guys should start up a professional moving company since you have so much experience in the field now :) You should really come to Concord to visit soon. We would love to see you guys. I really miss having you guys there. Are you planning on going to 1000 voices?
Aside from all the casino's, Reno is a great place to live. There are so many things to do that are close...Lake Tahoe-beautiful, skiing, boating, close to CA., Apple Hill, Horse trails etc. The only bad thing about us living in Reno is that my family is in Idaho! Tim's family lives here so at least we are by some family. We have enjoyed our time here. How is your new town?
I'm glad that you were able to visit FL and I'm glad that things are going well in Columbia so far! Things are going pretty well with us. BJ passed another CPA exam and he is pretty sure that he passed his last one, so he should be done with his test-taking! yay! School is stressful like usual, but at least it is the last semester! I'm just trying to take things one day at a time! here are my email addresses: strshiningbrite@yahoo.com or AmyJDeBoer@gmail.com. You can use either one!
I'm game for that book whenever you feel like sending it or bringing it when you come. No need to rush it in teh mail if you'll be back over some holiday. Thanks!
I am so jealous! We had lower humidity the last couple of days and with a breeze, not bad at all for September! Sounds like you had an awesome day! Greek food is SO GOOD!
Greek food huh? My fav. there is a festival here in tampa if you are here in nov. the spinach is called spanikopita-you can find it in the freezer sec. at some groceries--we had greek friends in cleveland that we used to eat thier food all the time, and the wife was lebonese so man thier meals were the best. What a nice day in NC, I know greg misses that weather. It was nice to see you the other week, but I did not get a chance to say hello.
