And then there were 6!! 11-27-08 05:27pm EST

Isn't it funny how things don't always go according to plan??? Well, I certainly cooked enough food for 12...but there were only 6 of us total!! Oh well!! Just glad to know that everyone was taken care of!

Here's what I made: Turkey (20 lbs), Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potato Souffle (Spelling?), Green Bean Casserole, Bundles of Beans (Rob's favorite), Stuffing, Gravy, Homemade Bread (2 loaves), Pumpkin Pies (2), Santa's Mint Cookies (Ritz cracker covered w/ chocolate and sprinkled w/ crushed candy canes!!), and Sweet Tea

We are so richly blessed!

I don't know about you all...but I am exhausted! I have been cooking since 8:30 this morning...I think that it's time for a nap!

carawatsonfranklin

Your menu sounds like it was delicious! Happy Thanksgiving!

lizsmith

Ummmmm

reesescup

Aw thts awesome..

pink_ladybug

Sounds yummy! We had wild turkey, garlic mashed potatos, dressing, yam and apple casserole, jello salad, ambrosia, Mom's cranberry sauce(YUM), dinner rolls, pumpkin pie, gingerbread cake, and molasses cookies! (And I may have forgotten a few things!

sirtarin

Sound tasty. =)

1000 Voices...and our getaway weekend... 11-10-08 10:29am EST

To say that the 1000 Voices singing in Kernersville, NC was "amazing" would be an understatment!! I am not even sure that I could describe to you what an awesome experience it was for Rob and I (at least the singing part...I will get to that in a minute!). Anyway...there were over 550 Christians gathered together singing praises and encouraging one another in song! It was a really great experience for Rob b/c he's never seen anything like it before!! I think that he was a little awe-struck! We sang some oldies...but goodies...we sang some newer songs...and some brand new songs! It was incredible!!! If any of you have the chance to come next year...make plans to attend! It's completely worth the effort to go...we had people from all over the country this year (i.e. CA, OH, GA, AL, SC, KY, TX, and a am sure a bunch more!!)

Now onto the rest of the weekend...as most of you know, I wanted this weekend to be a nice "getaway" for us!! I made all of the arrangements and Rob was basically coming along for the ride. Where oh where do I start w/ that one??!! The biggest disappointment was the hotel...I went online and researched hotels in the area that were nice and would take a dog. The hotel I chose was rated 3 out of 4 stars...so, I thought that it would be a good deal!! NOT! Let's just say that I was almost in tears the first night b/c I was so disappointed!! Here's what the website didn't tell me:

*there's a really popular strip club right behind the hotel that you will hear until 3 or 4 in the morning!!

*the sheets on the bed don't really fit it...so be careful when you roll over b/c the sheets will come off

*beware of scalding water...b/c the temperature regulator on the shower doesn't really work...either you're in for a cold one or you'll be making a trip to the burn unit

*our pipes are old...so, don't be frightened when you turn on the water and it comes out brown!

*the free continental breakfast has been sitting out a while...but it hasn't started growing mold yet

*Watch your step when you walking around the property...you may find more than you bargained for!! (When Rob was walking Shelly around outside...let's just say...there was plenty of birth control to go around!!) YUCK!

*oh yeah...and don't mind the sound effects...there's an airport close by and you are right in the path of the take off strip!!

Let's just say...that the accomodations were NOT the best!! We found some great places to eat though...and the singing was out of this world!!!

Do you have any horror stories??

lizsmith

Can't say that I do! But yours sounds like enough for many folks to go around. Want to share the name of this 3-star hotel? You'll probably get a survey to complete since you made your reservations on-line. Boy, oh boy, will you have a critique for them!!!!

But so glad the singing was an encouragement for you.

sallyanne

Ick! I bet you got a lot of good laughs though, huh? ;)

sirtarin

That hotel sounds horrid. But the singing probably more than made up for it! =) It would for me, I think. I've never been, but the HS Camps give me a good idea of what it might be like. =D

carawatsonfranklin

So sorry that the hotel was so bad. It was great to see you though, and I'm glad you guys enjoyed the singing. We would love to have you visit us sometime!!

sarahphim

Oh, I'm sorry! I hope you don't forget to leave a review for other people.

The singing sounds wonderful. What a fun trip!

dragon_blade

I'm terribly sorry about the hotel. It sounds rather dreadful, on the whole. o_O The singing was probably AMAZING though, and most likely made up for it, right? :D

roseamongthorns21

We go to Youth Lectures every year in Irving, Texas and it's about that many people singing, but it's not only a singing...but that sounds absolutely amazing! The hotel...not so much :(

pink_ladybug

Um, yeah the brown water does NOT sound fun. Neither does the scalding water. I wonder when the health department was there last to inspect the public disaster area. :| lol

jodimn

Thank you for the birthday wishes! Did you see my sister in law, Hillary? Or meet my cousin in law, Kevin Gillins??? Glad you had such a great time. Andy & I would like to go someday.

dragon_blade

IT is kind of crazy. :D I'll have to find some pics of Aragorn when he was a baby...then everyone will see why he became such a huge part of the family, along with the other darlings. :D :)

Home...safe and sound! 11-05-08 10:40am EST

Rob is home!! YEAH! He's been gone for a little over a month (for cold weather mountain training in Bridgeport, CA)...and wow...it seemed like FOREVER!! I don't know what I'm going to do when he goes to Sniper School...or deploys! YIKES! Oh well...I will think about that then...and rejoice that he is here now!

nthnswmn

Yeh for your husband being home!!

katie_fitz_steinback

It's about time. Tell Rob we all say hi.

fyra_draikspell

On January 9th! I can't wait! There is a trailer, and it looks amazing!

katie_fitz_steinback

What did he think of the house??

lizsmith

Glad Rob's home! I'm sure both his girls were glad to see him!!

katie_fitz_steinback

I agree about the people in the audience for McCain's speech. I found that downright disappointing.

sirtarin

Huzzah! :)

bdoc

Hi, Rob.

pink_ladybug

Welcome home, Rob. :)

carawatsonfranklin

Glad he made it home safely!!

rdockens

Wonderful.

sallyanne

Hurray!

mtnestr

Glad he's home if only for a while!

karate7

Congrats on your husband getting home! I hate it when Dan is gone! I wanted to ask you where you go to church out there? I am hoping that we can find a church out there pretty quick, when we move. We should be stationed at Cherry Point--possibly, New River, but not likely.

sirtorin

Yay! =)

dragonfly

Hi there! Your sister told me you are going to be at 1000 Voices - yeah! Will you be there Fri and Sat?

dragonfly

Congrats on hubby getting home...I'm sure you are both excited about that. I hate when Nathan is out of town.

dragonfly

I plan to be there Friday evening and on Saturday. Not sure if hubby will be attending or not as he hasn't decided yet. If he attends we'll drive back and forth as it's only about an hour and a half but if he doesn't go I'll probably stay overnight in the area.

skatebordingrox

=) tell him Kristyn says hi for me please!!

skatebordingrox

I know! its crazy! Evy told us that your dad had to walk to a hotel and stay the night. Crazyness! Thanks!

dragonfly

I'm not sure how many they are expecting but the last email I received from Jeff said that they had over 500 registered so far. I won't be making it today but will be there for the singing tomorrow. As of today, Nathan says he is coming with but that could change at any time :) We'll drive home tomorrow night b/c of the dogs.

A Weekend Getaway!! 10-31-08 05:08pm EST

So, I am doing something that I have never done before! I am planning a getaway weekend for Rob and I (and Shelly, our German Shepherd dog...if you didn't know)! Rob has been away for a little over a month now for training (cold weather mountain training, in Bridgeport, CA)...and he's coming home next week...Lord willing!

Where are we going you might ask??? We are going to the 1000 Voices singing in Kernersville, NC!!! I have already made hotel reservations...and we couldn't possibly leave Shelly behind...so, she is coming w/ us too!! I am also going to look into the area and have some other things planned as well...I just hope that everything goes well!!

I am so excited...and I think that it will be a great way for Rob and I to spend time together and sing praises to God w/ 100s of other Christians!

Who else is going??

chica

How awesome! Weekend get-a-ways are so good for couples. The singing sounds fabulous. Wish we could come too! I would love to see you sometime, it's been so long! I love your dining room transformation down there. Good job!

lizsmith

Sounds like fun. Hope you have a blast!

mtnestr

Andy and Jeff went to that twice, I went once with them and enjoyed it so much! I hope you have a good trip!

carawatsonfranklin

We are!! Can't wait to see you there!!

sirtarin

That sounds great! I've heard of the 1000 Voices singing, but it's rather far away. Someone gave us a song booklet or two from them though. =)

dragon_blade

That sounds amazing! :D

skatebordingrox

Sweet! Have fun!!

rdockens

I hope you have a wonderful time!

juliamiriam

Cool! Never seen it and neither has mom!

pink_ladybug

Wow! That sounds really fun!

The Dining Room... 10-27-08 02:01pm EST

Yes...another room that I have transformed while Rob has been away for training!! (He's not even going to recognize the house when he comes home!! While he's been gone, I have redone the master bathroom, painted our room and painted and updated the dining room and kitchen area!! YIKES! He may think twice next time before he leaves me alone for long periods of time! :):)) I have quite a bit of coffee stuff in my kitchen and I love the pictures that look like a scene from Italy!! Maybe one day I will actually see it in person!

For this transformation...I took down the old (and outdated) wallpaper, primed and painted the walls, and picked a new light fixture.

The Before... Again...they don't show up like this on photobucket and I don't know how to rotate them!!

What do you think??

sallyanne

Looks great!

rdockens

I like it!!

katie_fitz_steinback

I love the color and the new lighting!

lizsmith

You've outdone yourself again! Glad you got the box and like the cards. :)

pink_ladybug

I love it! That's right-I forgot he was in California! You should be an interior decorator!

jodimn

Love it! Great job.

carawatsonfranklin

It looks great!! Hey, I need a baby nursery painted. Maybe you can come to my house for a visit and do it! Ha! Ha!!

sarahphim

Awesome!

katie_fitz_steinback

Yes everyone wore costumes except Miles b/c he didn't want to and Cody b/c he is too old in his opinion to do t or t.
We had a hot dog, couple ninjas, police officer, of course hulk and power ranger, a cowboy, vampire, bratz cat, baseball player etc. Have a great day Belle.

carawatsonfranklin

It is held in the Winston-Salem area on Nov. 7 and 8. The main singing is on Saturday afternoon. The website with all of the info is www.1000voices.org. Check it out. It would be great to see you there.

carawatsonfranklin

Yay!! That sounds great!! I can't wait to see you!

thedoctorisin

I have that same corner thingy! But with the lack of room in our apartment it is currently serving as a towel/washcloth holder in our bathroom. :P

sirtarin

That looks fabulous! :)

fyra_draikspell

That is AMAZING!!! I love Ella Enchanted!!

rebecca052619

What a difference paint can make! The dining room looks awesome, sweetheart! Rob will think he wandered into someone else's house.

lizsmith

You sound like me - you know what you want, but you want it now! I need to remind myself, as you are reminding yourself, baby steps. How exciting you have a new classroom. It's exciting to start fresh. I know too about starting with a book other than the first in the series. That's not always the best choice. You want the students challenged.

Hunter made me feel so good Wednesday night telling me he was glad to be in my class. And after class I learned from Jeremy that he was surprised Tyler did as well as he did because he had had such a difficult time getting him out of the house to go to class Wed. night. But wait till you hear the reason: it was because he did not have his homework done. I just thought that was such an amazing breakthrough for Tyler - he felt bad for not having his homework!!!
