Ethan at three years old never fails to surprise me. Several days ago, Zane's parents came by to pick the kids up and as we were standing outside in the driveway Jeff commented on Ethan's shirt. Well Ethan brightened right up and said, "You like Lightning McQueen Papa?" Then he dropped his drawers and stuck out his backside, slapping his bottom saying, "I got Tow-Mater on my underwear too!" Good grief.
Momma and Daddy got to come out and play for a good while. Daddy did a bang up job on his parenting series. Hurt my feelings anyway. His presentation was awesome especially with such a personal subject. Momma's ladies' class was, of course, a hit! Encouraging and motivating and very practical. We're not ready for them to go yet, but looking forward to next time. Love y'all!
also, I'm sure your parents were a big hit, they're great teachers and bible students themselves. I wish we would've been able to hear some of the series. It was great getting to visit you guys though, all of you that is.
LOL- Ethan did it again when we were over there. He wanted to show me his Thomas the Tank Engine underwear this time. Then, he went and showed Caleb, and of course, I capitalized on the opportunity and said to Caleb, "See?? You can have Thomas underwear, too, as soon as you start using the potty like Ethan.
So why is that Ethan just will not believe me that the 2 on the digital alarm clock is, in fact, a 2 and not a 5? He even went so far as to go all the way to his room and come back with his little number 2 magnet to show me what a number 2 looks like and compare it to the number on the clock and say, "See, Mommy, I told you." Yeah, well, nobody likes a know-it-all. Is it wrong that I want to punish him for it?
Kaden always tells me that he is right. When I ask him why, he tells me it is because he said so and he is always right. How can you argue with that, he makes a good point?!
Clever boy! Praise the good, check his attitude when necessary. And hello to a new friend. My sincere thanks for your care and love for the Zimbabwe brethren. Unfortunately we will not be seeing your man who is coming over, but very thankful for his interest and love for the Lord in his efforts to teach and help physically those he can. Please advise him to find a pocket for OTC medicines before leaving. It would really be a help (like for headache, diarea (sp? - they call it "runny tummy", etc. Flip back to my blog for other suggestions. Keep me posted what your travelers find out.
thanks! I took that picture with my regular old digital camera too. who needs to go and wait in lines to have them done? I just decided I was gonna try to do it and I did, I'm pretty happy with the results, now if I can just get one of the two of them, that'd be amazing! :)
also, are my reservations still good for the evening of the 25th? If so, is it possible to add 1 more? My mom is going to be traveling with us as well and it'd be great if we could let her stay with us too otherwise, we may have to book elsewhere. ;) I know your house is going to be full already, that's why I was asking. Let me know if adding one more is a deal breaker, please. :) Thanks, and we're totally looking forward to our mini visit.
We'll definitely terrorize "this kid" with pranks. I'm sure it will get to the point that "the kid" will just roll his/her eyes at us each time. It'll be awesome. ;) love ya!
Thanks a lot!!! I am going to have to figure out a way to divide up the gum and hide it from myself. I brought it to work and I think I already have 5 cavities. :)
Me: Who's there?
Ethan: Orange.
Me: Orange who?
Ethan: Knock, knock.
Me: Who's there?
Ethan: Banana.
Me: Banana who?
Ethan: Knock, knock.
Me: Who's there?
Ethan: Apple.
Me: Apple who?
Ethan: Aren't you glad I didn't say orange?
Me: Hmmmm
Ethan: Mommy? Mommy? Mommy? Mommy? Mommy? Mommy? Mommy?
(I was driving and trying to merge onto the interstate)
Me: Yes, Ethan?
Ethan: I said aren't you glad I didn't say orange?
Me: Oh yes, very glad.
Ethan (smiling proudly): That was a good joke, huh?
*sigh* :)
I'm supposed to be working right now, too. I keep getting distracted. I don't know what my problem is. I mean, it's only 11:30 on a Saturday night. I can't imagine why I'd have focus issues while trying to write a report. Hope you get your work done!
Haha, cute! Caleb is SO into knock-knock jokes right now...well more a couple of months ago, but he could never tell them right. They were NEVER funny, and actually they never made any sense either. :)
well, I guess if I lose my mind and am hospitalized, it really would be win win, because someone else would have to deal with all the crying and as an added bonus, perhaps you'd be at the same institution with all your crazy head problems. I can't believe you're still dealing with all that craziness, that's terrible. I hope they figure that out even sooner than poor Harrison's issues. Anyway, today was probably the worst day he's had yet, so we'll see what shall come of this, if it's just a sensitivity to dairy or something like that causing the colic or if he has a full fledged allergy like she had. Today he started having a few symptoms that Addison had, so it's officially getting a little more scary...as of this evening.
hey. you're up late too! and yes, apparently I'm insanely funny when I'm in labor, or so says Kelley. she took that picture just before my doctor kicked everyone outta the room. but in all seriousness, i do and did have so much fun in labor, i mean just laying around and visiting with everyone, it was nice...and in large part due to the epidural. ;D
That was a compliment. Shaggy could take He-man anytime...anywhere. "Like, let's get out of here, Scoob!" Earth to Lauren, that phrase can only be said by the strongest of the strong. Have you seen how he can hold Scooby (very large dog) for long periods of time? Think it over. I will get back to you.
somehow I think you'll be okay in the end. ;) Perhaps all of your hostility is coming from the mere fact that you were outta the game so long with the issues in your head.
Thanks for writing me, Lauren. Just don't believe everything Carl and Renee say! :) Hopefully someday I can come visit them and see you. I miss those kids soooo much!
Lauren, I went to the spot you asked me to. I have believed for quite some time that Jesus never chases anyone. As an example, the rich young ruler is told what he needs to do but Jesus does not beg him or manipulate him to do the thing he needs to do. I decided to be the same way. I am under obligation to teach the gospel. If I teach the truth, you are under obligation to obey it. It is not my job to monitor you. Therefore, I spend my time trying to teach plainly. What you do with the teaching is your business. You will decide whether you will go to heaven or hell. The same is true with false doctrine. I teach what I understand the truth to be. If you disagree, its your business. It is not my business to monitor you. It really is enlightening and offers a great deal of freedom to the individual. Dad
Yeah, I looked up the recipe online and they're called "Gooey Butter Cookies". I posted the recipe in the recipe_exchange group. I make them a lot now. :)
We are glad all of you were able to come over, hopefully I didn't make you sick. I belive it is because your just so smart that you can't keep all that knowledge in your head
What can I say? I'm a positive person. I think Trevor called you. You may have already talked. He was just going to talk to you about Uncle Pud. I smile when I think of him.
Wow! I don't think I've ever had a stalker before. I feel like I belong in Hollywood now...do you come with paparazzi, too?
I was hoping to go to the singing yesterday, but I just wasn't up to it. I do plan on going to the ladies' class on the 22nd. So we can re-meet there. I'm sure I met you, too, but I'm horrible with new faces and names.
I was just up there last week. A buddy of mine and me put in on the bottom side of the Lake Lanier dam and kayaked for about 3 hours down to Settles Bridge. 1st time kayaking and I definitely plan to do more, and with more rapids!! Let me know what week the meeting is gonna be, I'd like to hear him.
I've been rafting on *real* rapids, but not kayaking. Well, there was a class II rapid on the stretch we ran last week, but only one. The rest was Class I shoals. Yes, I've been to Tallulah - couple of buds and I did the sliding rock there last summer, loads of fun. Didn't see any kayaks. I'm now searching for a good kayaking river for a couple of late summer runs...something with class II and III rapids.
Thanks for the update. The funny thing is, I pressed Terry while he was here to call me before Kalyn had a chance to call Laura, so he called like a couple of hours after the fact. I couldn't believe he thought of me two hours after the birth of his baby. He's a better friend than I. And it was oh so sweet to be able to say to Laura, "Yeah, I know" when she came to me saying, "Guess what..."
So Ethan has moved up to the 3 and 4 year old Bible class (you know, now that he's 3!) and he loves it! I am amazed at how much harder it is! I have my doubts that Zane would be able to keep up with the amount of memory work Ethan has ;) For example, this is Ethan's very first memory verse ever:
"And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:7
Wow. He was given this beast on Sunday to have memorized by Wednesday. I see the astonishment on all your faces and let me tell you I was right there with you! We have now grown accustomed to this grueling schedule (next week they'll give us the syllabus and the exam schedule :)) and am proud to say that Ethan is performing smashingly! He had no trouble memorizing this or any of the other verses since then. I am actually swelling with parental joy! He is also learning the books of the New Testament and he has a special zeal for this one since he gets to name one of the characters from Thomas the Train. That's right, when he gets to James he sings loud and proud! Can you imagine when he starts learning the 12 apostles? Getting to sing about James AND Thomas might be too much of a thrill for one little boy!
In Kayla news, she will be a year old in a couple of weeks (unbelievable!) and she's thisclose to walking. She can walk just holding my finger so really it's just a matter of courage. We're thinking about showing her an inspiring war epic to get the ball rolling a little faster. But to be fair, she has a LOT of weight to tote around. She's a monster! Sometimes, at night, I think I hear her sneaking into my room. She has this look in her eye like she thinks I'd look good stuffed with herbs and cooked in a savory sauce! So I just try to be nice to her and feed her every time she cries to make sure she doesn't come after me.
Ethan and Kayla have a love-hate relationship. Ethan absolutely loves her until she touches one of his toys. Or if he's feeling grumpy, he gets irritated by her happiness. He has even said "Mommy, Kayla's looking at me! Tell her no-no!" Cuz she loves him ALL the time! Even when he's aggrevating her (which he LOVES to do). I thought all this sibling rivalry stuff wasn't supposed to come til later! So that's it for now. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Disclaimer: I do not feed Kayla every time she cries. I realize that would not be good parenting. And I am not actually afraid of her. I was using my fictional fear of her size as an indication of how large she really is.
Haha! This was funny. Hmm...I teach the 3 & 4's at our congregation, maybe I should start a memory verse for them. I guess I figured they were too young but if they know entire theme songs to their favorite shows, they can memorize a sentence out of the Bible! :)
Lauren, it sounds like your babies are doing wonderful. I can't believe that tiny tiny baby I met could be big in any way :) I think it's wonderful they have them learning so much so young. I teach the 1st-4th grade and it's sad at times the things they don't know. Memory verses are hard, but I drill them and keep on them. It's a good class. I have about 13 students. How is Zane doing??
I like how you symbolized how "close" Kayla is to walking by leaving out the space between the two words. GENIUS!! Oh and I can totally understand the GIANT baby part! Grant is also a monster :)
It's a great class. We are learning the life of Christ. We have covered from the time Mary and Elizabeth found out they were having the guys thorugh His life. We are studying parables right now and will be going on to the last days of His life now. BTW My first day of work was awsome.
I'm teaching the 3 year old class right now. It's amazing how much information they can really retain! They're little sponges, which means we'd better "be careful little mouth what you say..." Sounds like Ethan and Kayla are doing great! I can't believe Kayla is almost walking!
I've been meaning to comment on your post for a few days now and now I'm gonna have to re-read it to remember what I wanted to say...but I remember thinking how much you STILL crack me up. :)
Okay, I did it. Yes, wow is right that's a HUGE verse for such a little guy but good for him for doing it and for the teacher's for KNOWING they can. I love teachers that push for excellence. Way to go you guys and Ethan! Also, yeah the Kayla part is what cracked me up, your little disclaimer at the end, it was just so, so, Lauren and to that I can say nothing other than you are a super funny girl.
