The New York Times offers this fascinating commentary on the Presidency and the Internet:
Sorry, Mr. President. Please surrender your BlackBerry.
Those are seven words President-elect Barack Obama is dreading but expecting to hear, friends and advisers say, when he takes office in 65 days.
For years, like legions of other professionals, Mr. Obama has been all but addicted to his BlackBerry. The device has rarely been far from his side — on most days, it was fastened to his belt — to provide a singular conduit to the outside world as the bubble around him grew tighter and tighter throughout his campaign.
“How about that?” Mr. Obama replied to a friend’s congratulatory e-mail message on the night of his victory.
But before he arrives at the White House, he will probably be forced to sign off. In addition to concerns about e-mail security, he faces the Presidential Records Act, which puts his correspondence in the official record and ultimately up for public review, and the threat of subpoenas. A decision has not been made on whether he could become the first e-mailing president, but aides said that seemed doubtful.
**I've always wondered if, once a person becomes president, they have to give up e-mail and stuff. Now I know.**
I wish you lived closer too! That would be so fun. Did you get to come down this past Saturday? Mary Ann told me you were supposed to. Hope you're doing well!
Brian showed us this video last night and it's hilarious. I had to post it.
In other news, a whole bunch of us from church went to 1000 voices in North Carolina last weekend. The singing was beautiful and it is always SO encouraging getting to spend time with brethren, plus sleeping in a room full of good friends ( Julie, Melia, Kathryn and Amanda)and getting to stay up talking late was lots of fun too!
You can see pictures on Jason's blog.
I loved watching SNL during the presidential campaign. Now that Obama has been elected, the writers for SNL have really run out of good material, if last Saturday's show is any indication.
I saw Jason's pics. Looked like fun. I've always wanted to go but I never hear about when it is until AFTER people get back. Except for this year. I heard a bunch of people were going (who..... I didn't know) but Larry and I were in Knoxville that weekend. Y'all definitely need to let the rest of us know next year so we can go too!
Weall just got home from Texas just a little while ago and had a great time thanks to some amazingpeople and their hospitality :)
I'll try to post more later about the trip!
I'm off to do my lesson for ladies bible class in the morning. I'm a little bit behind :(
I enjoyed playing against you and Courtney in Bible challenge...although you two had to have had the easiest questions ever written for a Bible game. Ever.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I have. I loved it! the guy who is the young doctor also plays Mr. Darcy's friend in Pride and Prejudice, did you notice? thanks for the offer!
You and Brian are invited to a pumpkin carving party at our house Friday night at 6:30. Everyone will be bringing their own pumpkins and some finger foods. Hope you can come!
I guess you've probably heard by now, but though I would pass this along anyway. The girls have arrived: Suzanna came first (5lbs 11 oz),
then Sarabeth (4 lbs 9 oz).
I got tagged by Larissa. Rules: If you get tagged list 8 random facts/habits about yourself. After which you have to choose 8 others to tag, and to let them know by commenting on their blog.
*If you've already seen some of these answers just disregard this post, I think I've done this tag before.*
1) I feel the need to look at pictures on other peoples blogs (that I don't know.) Usually if they have wedding, baby, or vacation pictures.
2) I should have failed my driving test due to the fact I hit 90% of the cones as I was parallel parking AND backing into a parking space, I almost hit a man and ran over the curb trying to avoid plowing him over, and I pulled out in front of a concrete truck. My dad loves that one. (Did I mention I'm HORRIBLE at taking tests?)
3) I have a strong dislike for the color pink! Especially hot pink. I probably have 1 article of clothing with pink on it, only because it was a gift from my dad.
4) I am extremely protective of my sister. My sister has this joke, that every year on Mothers Day she says she should get me a Mothers Day card. I'm this way with other peoples children as well. I hated field trips when we were with other people and they wouldn't watch their kids. And I can never watch Oprah if it has something to do with things that happen to children...My sister isn't allowed to do anything for days afterward.
5) I have to run my fingers through my hair or be rubbing my stomach in order to fall asleep at night.
6) I'm always cold. I can't wait to get in the bed at night with somebody who is always warm, wait for them to go to sleep, and stick my cold feet in between their legs.
7) I have the ability to stick my shoulder blades WAY out. And it really freaks people out.
8) People always think me and my mom are sisters, since we look so much a like and she calls me sister. My mom really isn't that much older than me anyway :) Except for the one time a man in Rooms to Go thought we were gay. My mom kept saying things like, "We are looking for a couch to go upstairs" (and she would look at me) then she said that we needed it to go in our Americana room. ha! The guy looked so repulsed until I tried to make it a point to keep saying "mom". Then he was so friendly after that.
LOL great post, You would love Greg then he is so HOT natured and I cannot stand to keep our house as cold as we do. Last night when I got into bed the sheets were damp from him--he is SO stinkin hot. Lydia seems to be that way too. And I don't like the color pink either!!!! I am a purple girl!
did your dad bribe the driving instructor? how in the world?...Ok and no. 5 is interesting also. I'm a hair twister, but not a tummy rubber. Michael is a foot shaker.
I can not have my feet covered when I am sleeping even if it is 30 degrees. It just makes me hot and uncomfortable. And #2! I hit the cones, made a turn from the wrong lane and kept locking the doors because it was a scary neighborhood. I thought that dude was going to jump out before I turned the car off.
