The Biggest Loser 11-21-08 10:36pm CST
This season I watched the first episode of The Biggest Loser and decided I would try to watch the whole season. Then, I had something going on for about three weeks before I saw it again. I couldn't believe how good everyone looked in that time!

I have to give them a lot of credit. I would never want to work that hard. I always feel so sorry for them. But, it is really paying off!

So, now that some of them are getting close to my weight, I thought I'd try to work harder and lose along with them.

I haven't done so well - I can barely get the energy to stay in the 20-min challenge, much less work a fraction as hard as they are doing. I have increased my walking to 30 min. - whoppee

I need some motivation, especially with the holidays approaching. SO MUCH yummy fattening food shows up at work EVERY DAY at this time of year.

Is anyone else trying to lose weight this holiday season?
dshLast year at this time, I guess because my body was fighting to dissolve my blood clot, I lost weight all through the holidays. I was not trying to at all. My doctor kept saying he would like to be on my diet. Unfortunately (not unfortunately about the blood clot) it's not happening this year. :(
holly_annme. it's not working. lets get a personal trainer. hahahaha!
anitajI've been on WW before during the holiday season and did quite well. You can, too!
tellyWe are, and have found that Fat Smash Diet works really well for us. We don't follow it exactly at times but it does allow for chocholate and all sorts of sweets but it is more about timing and portions. We did it a few weeks ago and I lost 10 lbs within 3 weeks. That was without exercising. It really showed us how much we were eating, because going to a restaraunt we could share an entree and be full
w3jlI need to lose weight, also, but I don't diet during the holidays. It just stresses me our when I don't do well. I try to just cut down on the amount I eat and I usually don't gain any weight, so guess that's good!!
lovinstlouis02My sister did that one year with a competition at work. She WON! She had enough money to put a fence around their back yard. I guess you had to pay each week to play then you paid more if you weren't losing, and the winner got all the money. Good stuff.
lovinstlouis02I started a diet on MLK day in January this year and lost 15 lbs just by eating healthier and laying off sweets and walking. I was so proud. Then Easter candy came....I'm going to try again in January after the holidays.
aletaAlways. Trying to keep it off and down, that is. Keep plugging; you've done well!
bestillI am trying. I go to a fitnes class, in fact, I'm doing 2 back to back, twice a week. I am doing better at watching what I eat. Try staying out of sight of the snacks at work, if that's possible. I take a reasonable portion and then go sit somewhere else so I won't keep nibbling then walk away. Good luck! I know it's hard but I'm pulling for you!
ilovepondsI just started back to WW last week. Isn't that silly...right before the hardest eating time of the year? But, I had to do something. I gained the 10 pounds most everyone does during chemo (mostly from all the steroids) on top of what I already needed to lose. I was actually losing weight through WW when I was diagnosed, so that stress (weighing in and keeping up with the plan) had to go. Now I feel good and ready.

I, too, love to watch TBL show and haven't missed an episode. My hubbie watches it with me and it has really inspired me to lose and motivates me to walk. However, my back (arthritis) has really hampered me in that area. It's my next goal to accomplish, though! Lets' hang in there together through these tough days ahead of us!
ilovepondsOh, and my leader at WW said to remember it's Thanksgiving DAY, not Thanksgiving WEEK. I think that's a good point.
ilovepondsShe also said to put the food I want on the plate, but to put it in such small portions that there is space between the items...nothing touching. That might help. I'm going to try that anyway.
missprissWell, I have a weight issue and need to drop about 30 lbs. I finally bit the bullet and joined a fitness center. I was a member at Curves, however, their hours were not always convenient for me. I discovered Snapp Fitness and it is open 24/7. I have been very conscious of eating healthy foods, however, still splurge when I am out to dinner with friends. After a splurge, I work out an extra 15 minutes. I have lost 14 lbs. and feel sooooooooo much better! So my philosophy is...eat in moderation and continue the exercise. Best of luck to you during the holidays!
mockinbirdLife for me is a constant battle of the bulge. Holidays are the worst time to try to diet. Kudos to you for that. I watched last seasons Biggest Loser and was rooting for the girl that eventually won it. It was really a life altering experience for her. I have not gotten into it this time.
leprechaun_preacherI have tried losing weight, but I always seem to remember where I hid it.
sarThanks. Yes, it woke them up! It woke me up, too, I was still half asleep!ha

Well, enough of that. 11-21-08 11:20am CST
Thanks for participating.

Don't get me wrong - I like Ss alot. I mean, what's not to like? I just usually say or do something (in ignorance) that offends my S co-workers - people I really like. I don't even know what I've done until they have a melt down and tell me. That's why I tremble. Anyway, hopefully that won't happen here in Pleo land.

Everyone have a great weekend!
bryanboydI'd say I'm an S and we are still on good standing. No need to tremble.
mockinbirdWell I'm definataely not a D now that it has been explained more throughly. Looks like I'm cross between an S and a C , closer to an S I guess. Now why isn't that good? The list of qualities seem very admirable.

DISC 11-18-08 11:41pm CST
For those unfamiliar with the DISC profile, this sums it up:

The trip to the mall.

An "I" sees a group of people she/he knows and goes over, gets in the middle of the group and has everyone laughing.

An "S" sees a group of people she/he knows and talks to a few one on one.

A "C" sees a group of people she/he knows and pretends not to see them and continues shopping.

A "D" doesn't go to the mall, she/he sends someone else.

Now, supposedly it helps one to know which "type" one is, and which "type" one's co-workers are, so we can all better understand each other and work together.

I'm sorry to say it, but I tremble when I find out someone is an "S". I just don't know how to deal with S's. It's very complicated and requires choosing one's words carefully, and even if said words are chosen carefully, they are usually mis-understood and turned into something negative.

***Sigh***

So, which type then, do you think I am?
textiletYou're definitely not an I. Maybe a C with aspirations of being an S?

I won't tell you what I am so you'll still talk to me! ;)
bestillI'm an S...don't be afraid of me. I prefer to get to know individuals and learn about them. How is that threatening? Is my asking threatening?
mtnestI think I am an S, but sometimes a C or even occasionally a D.
lovinstlouis02I go to the mall on a mission and want to get out of there, so I'm probably a C because I'm in a hurry. Yeah, S is odd.
aletaI've not heard of this profile. I'd say you are a D or C. I tend to be a D, but if I find myself among people, I try to speak to all of them. (I?) I can't say as I get everyone to laughing, though; I mainly want to know what's happening in their life. Interesting.
holly_annhaha, I'm a C or D defintely, which must mean you are too. I just did the C thing Monday...

Can you tell us a little more about "S"?
sarI think you are a D. Am I right? If not a D a C.
My husband is an "I" so is my 8 year old!
I can be an "S, C, or D" depending on what kind of mood I am in.
quincysmomIt depends on what mood I am in. I think I am a C when I am in a hurry and don't want to be distracted. Otherwise, I wave, smile or just say hi. There isn't a letter for that one. hahah
anneD?
mockinbirdC or D myself, but I think we can all be any one of these depending on the group of people we encounter.
ilovepondsIt depends on the particular group of people I see. I hate to admit, but I'm probably an "S" b/c I can be so painfully shy until I really get to know others. No rudeness intended, just shy!
split_rockD? I'm sure a D -- I try to avoid the mall at all costs -- but I have to venture over there this weekend!
leprechaun_preacherDid you by any chance find out about the 13th?
leprechaun_preacherGREAT!

holly_annI miss my baby. I hope she likes me again tomorrow.
lovinstlouis02No kidding. Where did this whole YEAR go???
dshShe has such a sweet smile!
quincysmomThat is SO sweet!!!!!! I can't believe how she has grown!
mockinbirdHello, my name is Jo Ann and I am new to Pleo and the Ladies Book Club. I noticed your mini-bio there and was pleased to see someone else on my side of 50.:-) (I think we are few and far between.) Coincidentaly we also seem to be neighbors. I'm from Aurora. I quite appreciate the joy and pride of a granddaughter. Our one and only just turned 3. Your little one is a doll!! Are you planning on reading the new Nov/Dec book club selection? It looks interesting. I love books like this. May I add you to my friends list?
mockinbirdIt IS a small world. We're reading Isaac's Storm. It's about the 1900 Galvaston Hurricane. I like reading non-fiction and have read a couple of others by this author and have enjoyed them.

Halloween visit 11-01-08 10:21am CST
The little flower came to visit Grammie at work. And, in front of my coworkers she finally spoke my name - "Gi" :)

jerzgirlSweet!
split_rock:)
textiletAww! Happy times for Gi!
lovnprayersShe is so cute!
dshYay, Gi!!
mtnestCute costume!
Fifth disease is also called human parvovirus. It's a childhood virus with a rash and sometimes fever. The cheeks get very red so it is also called "slapped cheek" virus. It got named Fifth because there are 4 other childhood illnesses that cause a rash.
quincysmomThat is just precious! I can't believe how your little "flower" has bloomed!
w3jlThat is so cute. She is growing so fast!
sarSo cute!
DessertDivaShe's so sweet!
curlieCute!
ilovepondsI'll have to check this out at home...can't get photobucket pics at work! One time, in church, Paige was fussing and crying when Kacey told her to not cry and say a word. She yelled, "Gig-ee!" So that was what she wanted. I had to have her at that point. :-)
anitajThat little flower certainly does brighten up your work's kitchen and copying areas.
holly_annBut "Ha" was first :) Even though she does like you better. :b
chickadeeThe top photo above would be a perfect candidate for one of those standup cutouts.
holly_annWe could probably make one of those here at work actually...
debsherbsThank you for your kind words you will have to email me and that way I'll have your email address. I will keep the situation in my prayers. This granddaughter grew up and became a preachers wife!!!
dshThank you!
lovnprayersLinda please let the people in Elgin know. I will keep you updated. She probably won't make it through the night.
lovnprayersI talked to Mandy and she and Tim were going up for the furneral. I didn't get any info on where it was.
