With Thanksgiving around the corner, I'm sure we'll all be reading blogs about what others are thankful for, so here's mine! Obviously my blessings are too abundant to list, but here's a few that come to mind...
1. God (without whom non of these other items would be possible!)
2. My family
3. My friends
4. My home
5. My job
6. My dog
7. Hot Chocolate
8. Mountains
9. Music
10. Hearing from good friends and family on Pleo!
Awww....I love the picture and I love your blog. There is so much to be thankful for ...even little things. Thanks for the sweet reminder here of what comes to minde for you. I love you and I am so thankful that I get to spend Thanksgiving with you and others who are of "like precious faith".
One of my favorite movies is White Christmas. On the train the main characters start singing a song about snow. When I walked out to go to work this a.m., that's exactly what I saw! It's the first snow I've seen this season - which is unusually late for the Denver area. I was very excited to finally see those beautiful flakes (I'm sure by March, my attitude won't be so good!) But for now..."Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"
Obviously things didn't go quite like I wanted them to go on Tuesday. My state even turned blue...yikes! I keep thinking of different things people have said since then and decided to write them down, and if you have any other things to add, please feel free!
1. God is in control - he knows what's best for us and we have to trust his judgment in everything. We are his children, and the father knows best.
2. This is a time that we can step up and fight for our faith. Be involved, be aware, and don't be afraid to speak the truth.
3. The "blue's" have been armchair quarterbacks for a while now, so let's see if they can really do a better job - might be tougher than they think! (Thanks ElizabethB)
4. Disagree with Obama all you'd like but recognize that he is at least in a Godly marriage unlike other candidates. (Thanks Kittyhawk)
5. Have a good attitude and respect the position Obama is going to be in. Don't make hateful or racial comments - remember to be Christ-like in all you say and do.
6. This might be something our country needs to go through to realize how far we've drifted from our first love...God!
You've always been so good at sharing "kind" thoughts. Thanks!! But here's something I don't understand...why does everyone refer to Obama as being "African American" or black? He had a white mother so why isn't he called "white" or "bi-racial"? I just think thats interesting.
Hello friends and family! Sorry I haven't updated in so long! I really don't have a good excuse, so I won't bore you.
Reading some of your posts about fall got me thinking about a tradition that we have here with my church family. About 17 years ago, one of our families started "Harvest Day." We all get together for a day of football games, scarecrow contests, a chili supper, and singing hymns together as the sun sets. It's a time of thanksgiving and a wonderful celebration of God's blessings.
With the economy like it is, and believe me I feel the crunch, it's easy to be self-absorbed in worry, fear, and doubt. I have to keep reminding myself that God's in control, he knows what's best for me, and he's going to take care of me.
May all of you experience the blessings that fall brings and enjoy your own "Harvest Day!"
I'm comin' "home" in Dec twice! HA...I'll be there the Sunday of the 14th, then I fly back to TX and then will be back in CO on the 20th until Jan 1st or 2nd..which is a nice long visit!
I do miss the good ol' Harvest Days!!! I do get a kick out of watching the WAY OLD videos of us kiddos there, and how we would dress up and go on hay rides...we all thought it was SOOOO much fun!!! And of course how can you argue w/ good home made chili!?
Oh...about Sunnylee...I'm hostessing a open house wedding shower reception for her & Ross here on Dec 14th as they will both be here AND so will Trevor & his wife Laura (Dec. 9th-16th) and Jeff & Kelli fly home from school on the 12th. It will be a whirlwind weekend but it will be so great to have them ALL home at the same time!
I believe it might be one of your favorite cousins. :) How are you? Good thoughts in your post - it's definitely easy to get down in the dumps with things going the way they are. I appreciate your uplifting thoughts.
Just an update on the big Slumberpool party. It was 63 degrees in Denver today - and will be the same tomorrow (Saturday). Needless to say, there is no swimming going on, so the party has been postponed until next weekend. It was actually supposed to snow in the mountains above 10,000 feet! Yes, it's August!
Anyway, I have 2 of the girls here anyway for a mini-party, but next week we're going to try this again!
Jamie and Amanda..there's time to jump on a plane and come join us! :-)
I wasn't invited :( I want to see some pic's of the cabinets! By the way, my husband and I had our first date since January! Had a great time, probably won't do anything until next January!
BABIES! What are you a bunch of girls or something? We have sauna's, heat up to 150 degrees, or as hot as you can't stand it, then run out into the snow. Usually one wears something. My Dad made a 74 year old anatomically correct snow angel that really creeped me out. I want to make my own sauna, that will be project number 483 on my Honey-do list.
thanks...good thoughts. From it I will list: God centered perspective for life's difficulties. A few of us are working on a women's retreat for this fall and "serving others" is my topic. You have helped me. Chalk one up for you for helping a long distance friend. Have a good week.
