You would think that something so small and so vitial wouldn't bug you so bad. But for me socks really get the best of me. I mean you purchase them and there is a mate for each one. Then comes time to wash and I just can't explain it but something happens. I can't find the mate and then that just turns into a basket full of unmated socks. You know how you lay out everyones clothes for Sunday morning, so as not to run late? Well around here we make sure everyone has socks. Its like trying to find a needle in a haystack sometimes! I will admit I am not very good at keeping up with laundry. It seems I get it done and then WHAM the basket is full by the next morning. It doesn't really stress me to bad, the children help by folding and putting away. But the sock basket has become a monster!!! ITs like a bad dream that won't go away!!! I feel like throwing them all away and starting all over. Any ideas on keeping socks mated?????
We have a sock basket. All dirty socks go into the sock basket. When it gets full I wash them all in the one load and then put them back into the basket and match them up. We still have a basket of un matched socks for the kids. But when it gets full and I match them up, we have like 50 pairs of socks each.
I'm so OCD that I never have unmated socks. But I do my laundry all in one day every week so if I'm missing one I just search in the baskets, under the washer ect till I find it.
I am fine.. There have been some changes for me lately and I think more are in the future. Lot's of adjustments but it is good stuff. When are y'all coming to visit? When you can put a new picture of the kids on your blog. I bet they have gotten so big. Would love to see y'all. [x]
No tips here, Lisa...same problem. Here's the irony though...I JUST sat this VERY afternoon and tried matching up missing socks myself. I had a pile of probably 25 pair of socks that I had found through various washings with no mate and put in the pile of "to find later". Well I was successful at putting several back together today, but about 5 or so I considered a lost cause and just tossed into the garbage. (They were too ratty and getting too small for the kiddos anyway). I just thought it was funny that you mentioned that problem when I dealt with the very same thing today! Happy matching!
When Kent was a baby, I had a mesh bag that I put his little socks in and I never lost any. They make fairly large mesh bags that you could use for socks. You could offer the kids a monetary reward for each sock they find under the bed, under the dresser, under the couch, in the toy box, etc...
The problem with socks has been one that I dealt with many years ago and so I can tell you how to eliminate the problem of lost socks, mismatched socks, an overflowing sock basket of only one sock and no mates. Get you a box of good, fairly large safety pins and pin the socks together the minute you take them off. There will be no more problem. I am sure many poor housewives spend hours and hours a year sorting socks or they just give up and let the individual family member find their own socks---sort of like hunting easter eggs! But, I have more important things to do with my time than to search for matching socks! I even take the safety pin after removing it fromt the pair of socks and I clip the pin into the top outside of my right sock. That way, all I have to do when I remove the sock is to take the safety pit and pin them together again and toss the socks in the laundry basket. Simple! I even have a method where I switch the left sock to the right side before pinning them together so that the socks are always rotated. That way I don't rear holes in the toes of the socks so quickly because they are on different feet each time.
Whoa...I thought I was the only one that has this problem...I think your post is 100% my thoughts..I have even contemplated tossing and replacing. I'm glad I am not alone in this sock maddness! But I too wish I could eliminate the sock basket issue.
Hint: Always check your washer to see that ALL of the items are out! Sometimes socks stick to the sides and then get thrown in w/ other loads never to be mated again!!!!!
Let the kids wear unmated socks. Katie has two mismatched socks on right now! LOL Unless it is summertime, you can't see them under the pants anyway. ;-)
Lisa! I'm so sorry! I just realized that somehow your name did not get added back to my list when I went gold. I'm doing fine. I have an upper respiratory infection & was told that I had to stay away from my sister for 24-48 hours. I'm upset I wasn't able to go with her to the dr. today for her follow up, but I don't want to compromise her health. Thanks for asking.
About the socks: When we buy new socks, I use a laundry marker to number them & that makes it easier to match them up. You know, sometimes you wear a pair out faster than another, or if you cut grass or don't wear shoes the socks get stains faster. I don't like a worn out sock being paired up with a newer one. I want the stains to match! :) My family all thinks I'm crazy or OCD, but it makes folding socks so much faster! Now, I don't know what to do about loosing socks. Fortunately, we don't have that problem...yet, with just the 3 of us.
I know! When I came over to your blog today, I was wondering "how did I miss her new entry...I never saw her name light up?" Well, it didn't take me long to put it all together & figure out what happened.
I found this song very encouraging today. I hope it may help others too. Enjoy!
Be Strong And Courageous
BE STRONG, and courageous, you hosts of the Lord! Rise up for the battle, and gird on your swords! The land of His promise is yours now by right; take all He has given; go forth to the fight!
Chorus
Be strong and courageous, and conquer the foe! The Lord God is with you wherever you go!
Be STRONG, and courageous, through God you will win, though great be the armies of error and sin. Your Captain will lead you to conquer the land; His arm cannot fail you, and they cannot stand.
Chorus
Be strong and courageous, and conquer the foe! The Lord God is with you wherever you go!
Be STRONG, and courageous, consider His law; reguard it with revrence;perform it with awe. Be careful to follow all God has decreed, for then He will bless you, and you will succeed.
Chorus
Be strong and courageous, and conquer the foe! The Lord God is with you wherever you go!

The wedding was beautiful. I have always loved fall weddings I love the colors, browns, oranges, reds. We got to catch up with some people we don't get to see very often and spend time with my parents. I had company yesterday, I fixed Poppyseed chicken casserole, g-beans, creamed corn and sweet potato casserole. I also made these refridgerator yeast rolls. They were so good and very easy too. You just put all the ing. in a bowl put the lid on and stick in the fridge until your ready for it. It can stay in the fridge for a week! I got the recipe from my aunt Janet. They were easy and yummy! Well I hated to see my parents leave and the children did too. Coming up Ashley and the children are coming for a visit, can't wait! Hope everyone has a good week!
RECIPE!!!
Refridgerator Spoon Rolls
1 pkg yeast
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup cooking oil
1 1/2 sticks butter
2 cups warm water
1 egg slightly beaten
1 tsp salt
4 cups self-rising flour
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add all other ing. beat until mixed. Place in air tight container. Store in fridge over night. Spoon in greased muffin tins. bake @ 400 about 20 min.
I'm glad it all went well. I'm making poppyseed ckn tonight & my lil sis did the other day. It must be in the air. :) That all sounds so yummy. At 1st i thought you were talking about the frozen rolls I bet yours were great. :)
yeah, just go ahead and post that roll recipe for me as well :D i've never had a recipe from anyone in your family that was not delicious. everything is so good.
It was sooo good to talk to you yesterday! It was neat to hear some stories of your meeting Brad and all. Definitely let me know if you guys have a get together...if I'm free I'll come over!
Just wanted to say hey and Im glad yall went to the wedding, it looked beautiful. Enjoyed seeing your parents too. See ya Wed. night if the Lord's willing! Love yall.
we live on a busy road that isn't really in a "neighborhood" so we don't get trick or treaters. Also the huge black barking dog would probably scare off any that did venture this way.
I am a "bad" house. I buy andy to give to my boys cause we don't normally make time to go t or ting. The last few times our fall meeting has fallen on halloween or it has been a worship time. No biggie to us though. I am glad we don't have very many kids in our neighborhood or we would be a marked house. LOL
we've never given out candy..not that I can remember...too busy taking the kids trick or treating...if we did though, we'd probably be a "bad" house, cause I'm too cheap to buy the good stuff! lol...it's the black and orange pb candy here!!!!!!
We don't get trick or treaters, being on a state route, but we do go to either of my sisters houses. The live in neighborhoods, perfect for beggers night!
I take candy to hand out there and bring stuff we like or whatever I can get on sale. This year I have twix, reeses and suckers.
ONLY the good stuff. But we don't get to do it anymore. Not in this neighborhood. Sigh. Anyway--the good stuff: Reeses, M&Ms, Junior Mints, Milky Way, Hersheys, Twix. THAT's the good stuff. You know--the kind YOU want to eat. The problem is YOU want to eat it if it's left over!! I like this question.
i go to my grandmother's and she doesn't give candy out to strangers, only family :) that's fine, more for me. and she gives out the good stuff. however, the good stuff might be 2 or 3 halloweens old, which means it's not necessarily the good stuff anymore :)
