I went to my eight o' clock this morning and as soon as I stepped out the door I was in a good mood. The air was fresh with the smell of coming rain, humid with a cool, pleasant breeze, overcast and all the trees and foliage were bursting with the color that only the beginning of spring brings. Later today I'm goin on an extra credit field trip with my reproduction class to a bull breeding farm...then a stud farm. Should be interesting....I'm even thinking of switching my area of specialization from beef cattle to reproduction/genetics. That's about all that's new....I started dating a girl that I met through another friend and things are goin really well!!

I recently found out about a internship opportunity with Texas AgriLife Extension and was going to apply but apparently I found out about it too late. I've been thinking about a career in AgriLife Extension for some time now but now I'm not so sure. I've talked with my adviser at A&M who used to be one himself. Although he described the job very favorably, he told me the job is so time consuming he didn't see his wife much the first ten years they were married!! Obviously that's a huge negative about the job....hopefully I'll be well on my way to getting married by the time I graduate college and that's definitely not something I want to have to overcome. Secondly, I found out I'd have to receive my Masters to attain the job....and I know I'm not gonna have the money to do that, nor am I going to ask my parents to send me to graduate school after putting four kids through college. Oh well...I have a myriad of other options...
As far as summer plans now that the internship plans fell through, looks like I'll be living with my grandmother again in Sweeny, working on my Uncle's ranch and hopefully working with the Matagorda county Extension agent, whom my Uncle is friends with. I look forward to it...besides gaining the valuable experience I'll prolly be fishing constantly (San Bernard & Colorado Rivers + the gulf). For those of yall who don't know where Sweeny is (prolly all of you) I linked a map....Sweeny is at the bottom/middle...

Sorry about the AgriLife, but yay for the other summer plans! I've never been anywhere near the Texas gulf before (Ok Houston, but it was a good 5 or 6 years ago for two days)! Hope you have fun this summer!

I imagine that Sweeny is probably one of most humid cities in Texas. I haven't been fishing in forever!!! I'm going to guess though that boats and pregnancy don't mix so well!!!
my sister lives in between Hou and Galv, maybe if we come down to visit her, we could arrange a dinner or something at an in between locale. And to comment on someone else's comment... dreams are all well and good but you still gotta live in the real world. Work toward what you want to do, but don't do it to the exclusion of life. My master plan was to be a history PhD, as you know, and look what happened. The supreme goal should be to be happy and content with whatever you're doing and it will all work out... hopefully. : )
well, happy st. patrick's day everbody. i remembered to wear green today but i only own one green shirt.....and it says scotland...so i wore it in an ironic combination of support and defiance of the irish. oh well.
i'm too lazy to really post anything of significance right now....just thought i'd put somethin up since i've been gone so long.
i had a bad ear infection that ruptured my ear drum and temporarily lost some hearing. still have fluid in there and a ringing noise. he may want to put in ear tubes! well see this morning
Now that I have time to post again, I figured I would. Finals are over, thankfully, and even though I didn't do poorly, I'm kinda disappointed in my final course grades. I got straight B's...two of which were a point or two away from being an A. So, having all B's this semester will bring my GPA down a little from a 3.2.
Next semester is going to be rough...perhaps nightmarish. Here's the line-up:
1.)Organic chemistry - even good chemistry students heap curses upon this class and chemistry is my worst subject
2.) Statistics
3.) Veterinary Entomology - for those who don't know, entomology is the study of insects...thus veterinary entomology examines detrimental internal and external parasites of livestock (has a lab)
4.) Reproduction in Farm Animals - (also with a lab) official course description is as follows:
"Physiological principles of reproductive processes in cattle including sperm and ova production, estrus, fertilization, gestation and parturition; techniques of semen evaluation and storage, estrous synchronization, embryo transfer and rectal palpation."
...yea, it's hardcore
5.) Appraisal and marketing of Livestock (yet, another lab)
Anyhoo....I head home on the 20th and I have off work till the 26th. It'll be good to be home. Hopefully I'll see some of yall!!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving...mine was great. It was good to see all the family again. I miss them being all the way down here! I try more and more to avoid taking everyday blessings for granted and on Thanksgiving day, when I sat down next to Becky at the dinner table and looked at our overloaded plates of food, realized I was in a warm house surrounded by family I love I realized how blessed we are compared to much of the world.
On T+1 I drove back to College Station on Friday morning because I had a spot on second deck of Kyle Field for the Lone Star Showdown between my Aggies and the T-sips! I have to say that without a doubt, this game was the most exciting Aggie football game I've ever been to thus far (not to mention the loudest!!). It was my two roommates, one of their girlfriends, her sister, and myself that went together and even though it sucked to leave family the day after Thanksgiving, it was so worth it. Our first drive resulted in an amazing run and score by our star, Goodson, and that drive set the tone for the whole game....we were unstoppable!! We set a record attendance at Kyle Field of
88,300 and it was so packed we were all basically standing sideways.
highlights of the game
-goodson's ridiculous show of balance and agility on his first td run of the game
-having to cover my ears when texas was on defense b/c we were so loud
-hearing the crowd roar in delight when A&M was issued a sideline warning late in the 4th quarter after we recovered a fumble
-finally seeing the famed "4 way cross maneuver" by the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band
-singing "varsity's horns are sawed off" at the end of the game as the Texas players had to stand on the field and couldn't leave
