So we made it through Thanksgiving. Now we can officially start Christmas. Eric has made it a house rule for many years, that we do one holiday at a time! Which usually means no music, movies or decorations until after we eat turkey!! I must say, Eric got a little soft on us this year and let us watch "Miracle on 34th Street" while we finished cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
Friday we spent the day with Ken and Sara Vaughn and family (Josh's family). We had a great time in the country and Kevin shared his BB gun with everyone. Today we bought a tree, put up lights and started decorating the tree.
What a great weekend we had! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving day! We have a new sense of cherishing the holidays now that Ellen is grown and we will be moving probably by June. So here's to making memories!
So my birthday was yesterday and I will tell you without hesitation that I am 46. Go ahead with the jokes, "Man, you're old", "Now you're in your late 40's" and my favorite, "Your almost 50!!"
On my 40th birthday, my mom called and I asked her, "How does it feel that your baby is 40?" Her answer, "Well I guess if she acted 40, I'd feel old, but she still acts 25!" So now that I am 46 I guess I act more like 31. Hmmm.
Anyways, growing older isn't so bad. Instead of watching our toddlers run around the house with a popsycle dripping all over the carpet, now I get to watch things like my daughter fall in love, go off to college and become an adult herself. Or watching my 7 year old play baseball for the first time and inspiring an entire group of adults, or just enjoying life, regardless of his circumstances.
Life is good, regardless of your age!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LYNN!! I wish we were there to celebrate with you! Remember our january outings! How is Kevin? Any news on the job? But, don't think of anyting bad today, all good! Hey look at me, I'm 50 and don't look a day over 49! Love ya!
I just told Ken today that your family should come and spend Thanksgiving day with us if you didn't have other plans....We would love to have that time with you. Let me know.
Let's plan for Friday lunch at our house. Bring the bb gun that will be fun. Josh goes to work at 6, so he'll probably leave around 4, if I remember his schedule correctly. Can't wait to see ya'll!
How do ya'll feel about chicken spaghetti? If that's a go, I'll have rolls, green beans and a dessert. Anything you want to bring will be great. Look forward to meeting Eric's mom and being with your family.
I didn't watch it last night, but just watched John McCain's concession speech. Sen. McCain could have been bitter, angry and insulting, yet he exemlified honor and respect, even to the point of not allowing the crowd to boo Obama. Although we are saddened, concerned, and anxious over the election, I hope and pray that we can all imitate the attitude of John McCain. May we continue to pray for this great nation and for what is to come. But in all things let us glorify the God who gives us this great place we call home and His promise of a better land.
That speach is such a good example of how we should be in the face of defeat. His humility was balanced by his true sense of respect for our way of governing. Impressive indeed. Thanks for this post.
So today is Halloween and I have a little boy who wants to go trick or treating sooo bad. We thought we would just have him hand out candy tonight, but he is begging. What 7 year old wouldn't?? So we are loading him up in the car (no small task), with his harness on, loading up the wheelchair, putting 1/2 of a costume on him, driving to Martha's house, so he can go trick or treating with Drake. The things we do for our kids!! So, what are you doing tonight??
Turning the outside lights off and watching Dallas Stars hockey. For the last few years no one comes down this street. They have learn by word of mouth what streets have all the candy. No kiddos live on this street.
Thats cool i know how he feels when i had leg problem 2 tell him he should not care wat peopl call him or ask hes a human and a child of GOD Hoppe hes doing well
Ken and I were there for a funeral....I don't think I have enough mental health days to get me through this year so I'll just have to tough it out! Glad to Kevin is still keeping you on your toes.
The singing is at 7:00. I was going to remind you about it but thought it might be too much of an undertaking right now. We would love to see you though!
We brought Kevin home this morning after another good night. The epidural came out yesterday afternoon and he has been on over the counter pain killers ever since! He is doing alot better than I had anticipated!! He is a little frustrated that he has to wear the casts for 6 weeks, but we are doing our best to convince him of the good that will come of it!
Thank you all so much for all the prayers and kind thoughts for him and our entire family!! God has blessed us with so many wonderful friends and we thank Him everyday for each and everyone of you!!
Lynn, I have some ideas for assistance for you and Kevin in the weeks to come if you want to give me a call. We have a child life specialist come to our house once a week and spend four or five hours each visit. It is wonderful and she even offers to let me run errands if I so desire during that time, not that I really do usually. Anyways, my friend Sheri Richbourg's daughter jenna had each hip replaced and was immoble for about the same time Kevin will be so I could give her a call if you need any ideas. One thing a friend of mine from England says is vital to large area casting is for the patient to always wear 100%cotten undershirts where the cast stops to prevent chafing and skin from brading down. I know I sound like Judy on Leave it To Beaver here, but I love you all so much and would do anything to help.
Had lunch with Josh and Ellen today. She is just wonderful. We laughed so much. Ken drove the entire time...he trusts no one but himself behind the wheel!!!!!
I especially hated this time because I went 3 times in three weeks trying to get this done... missing work... BUT, it's my fault for allowing it to get to where I needed a root canal!
