Only 35 days left until retirement. WHOOPEE!!! It's the worst time in the world to retire. Retirement reduced to 40%, moving from the most depressed county in Indiana to the most lucrative county in NC. Smart timing, Janette. Is it obvious how much I want to leave Connersville???
Last night we had a special prayer service for my niece, Rhonda. The building was full of people. People from the community, people from work and other congregations. The service was entirely devoted to prayer, scripture and songs. There was much participation and the service lasted for l hr. and 45 minutes.However, we were extremely edified and hopefully several people were touched that had never worshipped with Christians before. Many comments were made about the singing (which was absolutely wonderful!) and I have heard comments this morning about how impressed my fellow workers were with the young men of the congregation. Most of them were Rhonda's nephews. It is still amazing to me how God's word is still powerful. When we do those things that the early Christians did, we not only strengthen ourselves but we open doors to our neighbors. Please continue to pray for Rhonda and most of all pray that we may reach lost souls through her illness. I will tell you that one straying member who has not been in the building in about 6 years came to the service and seemed more approachable than he has in those 6 years. I am reminded of Tim Waddlington who converted 18 of his friends while he was undergoing treatment for his cancer. We never know what good we can do even under very trying times. I really commend this type of service to those of you who experience particular problems that affect the whole church and community.
We had a special prayer service for our brother Travis who disappeared without our knowledge. The next morning we did receive news of him.
Prayer works brethren. It may not always be the answer that we want, but it still works. God will ALWAYS do what is best!
Ike's fury hit us here in central and eastern Indiana and particulary in the Cincinnati area. 668,000 people are out of electricity and will be for about a week we are being told. I am not out of electricity but the rest of the family is. I do have a large tree that fell right in between my bedroom and the house next door. The are numerous trees and branches that are down all around the area. The park has been closed because there are so many trees down. No one killed and only a few injured. Several roofs blown off and a few cars hit with trees. Cincinnati had fires and a lot more damage. It's amazing to think that the hurricane could produce this much damage this far inland.

Just had a major discussion with our new tenant that moved in our basement--single mom with a 2 year old. It is so difficult to converse with people who think the Holy Spirit told them what to say or put an idea in their head. Working with this girl is going to be taking baby steps. She has a good heartso we're hoping with time we can influence her. Is the picture of you to the left with a new grandchild? And...what does "madeah" stand for? Love to you.
Yep, people that believe the Spirit is talking to them are difficult. Probably the best way is to show them in the Bible where "The real Spirit" says something different than what they thought it was saying. That picture is a year old. My granddaughter, Jamison is one year old today. That is Terry's youngest. Madeah comes from a Tyler Perry character. He lives in Atlanta and has written several plays and movies. It is a take off of his grandmother who was from New Orleans. She is a character. I guess down there "Madeah" is a contraction from "Mother Dearest". He plays the character in his movies and he just cracks me up.
Ya never know. I may come to Atlanta pretty soon. I plan to retire the first of the year. Am moving to Charlotte, NC. That isn't too far from Atlanta. Plan to get an apartment so when I want to travel I can just shut the door and go. You may just get sick of seeing me...Thanks for your hospitality.

Many of you have asked about my neice and boss. She has done very well, continues her regimin of excercise, nutritional eating and positive attitude. She did experience some pain in her abdomen recently and contacted her physician who ordered a CAT scan. The results show the cancer has gone to the lungs and liver. The physician says he is not concerned about the lungs, but will do a biopsy next week on the liver. He tells us there are many more options to treat it now. Rhonda is very positive and tells us she will be "just fine" no matter what the results. She is stronger than the rest of us. I do solicit all of your prayers, as she does. We know the prayers of righteous men availeth much. Thanks so much.
On Wednesday I will head south to Ft. Mill to see Jared and Tyler. Will stay about a week or so and then take them with me to Knoxville and meet their Grandma and Grandpa Barnes. They are going to go home and stay with them for a few days. They are all excited about seeing their grandparents, and we are excited to see them. Wish it were a permanent vacation, but then I guess I should not wish my life away...
