Another year. It's funny how we don't always think so much about birthdays once we aren't children anymore..or maybe we do. I have been surprised that is hasn't bothered me to be middle aged as much as I thought it might. My life is full of blessings, and I need to take time to count them everyday.
Each season of life has its joys. Savor each one. |

If I had realized all the details before I went to bed last night, I probably wouldn't have slept very much. Adam called me back this morning around 10:30 a.m. saying the race was still going on! They ran all through the night! Turns out the race was from around noon yesterday until around noon today.
Adam's team came in first in its division! It took them 22 hours 50 minutes! Here is a website to check out more if you are interested. The course was from Clearwater to Daytona. Adam's team was Legends Plus. They came in second overall and first in their division. On the website it describes the length of the course and other details:

I am looking forward to a detailed report from him! |

Tonight I got a call from my oldest son. Today is the day of the Ragnar relay! A group of his running friends are participating in a relay race from one coast of FL to the other! Crazy! When he called they were in first place! Not sure how it is progressing. Adam had already run one of his legs in the race and he called me while he was being transported by van to his next starting place. Cool idea. Can't wait to hear how it turns out!
I'm praying for his and his teammates' safety, as I believe the run is over a 24 hour period. Wow.
Enjoy yourselves all cozy inside, not running across the state of FL! |

Tomorrow my oldest son will leave his teenage years behind. He was born on Nov. 4, 1988. We lived in Providence RI, and were living in the first house we ever owned. April was a four year old little cutie at the time. Her first words about Adam were, "He's not very pretty, is he?"
Congratulations to Adam for making Nationals in cross country, and for the opportunity to run the Florida coast to coast relay! How amazing! I'm glad he is enjoying FC, and I'm also glad he got to enjoy some Fall weather at the Nationals competition in VA.
I am very proud of my big boy. I have been thinking a lot about kids, and how we prepare them for the future. There are so many things to think of..academics, social skills, experience, balance in various aspects of life. However, the most important way we prepare our children is to be children of God. What we do when they are children determines so much about what they will be in the future. As they grow older, the clay starts to harden. Our influence must compete with all the other influences around them. It so vital to make those impressions while they are still soft and able to be molded. Not that adults can't change if they need to, but it is much more difficult and takes much self discipline and determination.
Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. It is easy to get caught up in the day to day pressures, schedules and obligations. We must make sure we aren't only focusing on the things that are pressing, but the things that are vital. Spiritual things. We must train in things like choosing a spouse, how to choose an occupation or a place to live which will help them get to heaven, not to hinder. How to put God first. Much of this we do with our examples. We must have a clear vision of what really matters.
Adam, I love you very much, and pray that you will be making right decisions during this extremely pivotal time in your life. Run like the wind..as you love to do. Run with God.

Two special guys I know are celebrating birthdays on Oct. 16 and 17. The funny and embarrassing thing is that for a while I couldn't keep straight which birthday was when! Tim came into our family's life not terribly long after Luke was born, but that isn't a particularly good excuse. I finally figured out how to remember Tim's birthday. I do always remember that Tim's favorite number is 17, so that reminds me which birthday is his!
My Lukas is going to be 4! This will be the first time in my life to have a four year old when I as not expecting another baby. I occasionally feel a little sad not to be planning on having more children, but usually I just realize that my motherly ways can also be fulfilled by being a grandmother:) I'd love more Leila time: ) Besides, I've still got plenty of mothering to do with my four still at home, Lord willing. Besides, it's not as if I have an empty nest or anything! My nest is nicely full: )
I am thankful for my son-in-law, Tim, for the wonderful Christian man that he is. My heart safely trusts in him to lead my daughter in good and godly paths, along with whatever children they may have. Thanks for being a good daddy and hubby, Tim.
My little Luke is my unique little guy. He's my energetic little tiger that makes our family complete. He's such a good helper and loves to be a part of whatever we do. He really surprises me with some of the things he understands. He has his moments of challenge and things we need to continue to help him work on, but that is true of us all. I love my little guy.
Happy birthday, guys!!
