Changing Traditions 11-30-08 09:48pm EST

Thanksgiving was such a treat. Gavin really stole the show. God's gift to the world is a child. How wise and wonderful God is. I am truly thankful for my family. God bless each and everyone.

traditions 11-17-08 07:52pm EST

as I have grown older tradition has become more important to me. I don't like when we deviate from it and I frequently go down memory lane referencing it to my children. So here goes, what is your favorite family tradition?

My favorote is Thanksgiving. My father has always made the turkey. I fondly remember him going through the pain staking process of making the perfect turkey. He would start yelling "gobble gobble gobble" in the early morning hours( around 9am) to rouse his sleepy daughters out of bed. The smell would fill my nose immediately. During the afternoon, when the bird was perfectly done we would gather around the oven for the first sample of dressing. Feeling as if that was the most perfect turkey ever made, we would constantly try to sneak another bite. As a child this holiday was shared with my mamaw, daddykins, and grandfather. As they have grown older, I realize that this tradition is slowly changing. My children and my nephew have entered into this life, and with all new beginnings come completion and endings. This year my mamaw and grandfather will celebrate their 89th Thanksgiving. It makes me wonder how much change they have seen throughout their lives in family traditions.

I love family traditions too. It's hard to know when to break off from the larger family and just do things with your immediate family. I wish we would have done more with the boys, although we do have some great traditions and memories!

we started going to hubers every october when the kids were small. we'd make a day of it, and come home tired and fed and with personally-picked pumpkins. now she and nathan have started it with kaelyn.

I'll tell David, right now he has no plans while we're up.

Thu, Nov 13, 2008 SC priest: No communion for Obama supporters Nov 13, 06:33 PM EST By MEG KINNARD - Associated Press Writer

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him "constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil."

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.

"Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president," Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein.

"Voting for a pro-abortion politician when a plausible pro-life alternative exists constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil, and those Catholics who do so place themselves outside of the full communion of Christ's Church and under the judgment of divine law. Persons in this condition should not receive Holy Communion until and unless they are reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Penance, lest they eat and drink their own condemnation."

I kinda like it too!

I heard on the news one of the first executive orders he wants to give is to lift the ban on stem cell research. I hear the voices of the innocent crying out from the grave. America what have we done!!!!

sar_bear

Wow. I like it.

christina

Interesting!

monk

i read this in my morning paper. i thought it sounded just like something that the catholic church would do.

squeaky

Where were all these Catholics when he was running. How come they didn't oppose him then. Might have been a different outcome but I doubt it. All I can say is keep God close we are going to need him.

what size is William wearing now?

derbydi

It's good for them to be involved with something, and usually the kids in band are good kids. :-)

We've been cleaning out Austin's closet. I have several shirts, smalls and mediums that he can't wear or won't wear, he likes the athletic fit that cut slimmer through the body and arms some of the shirt still have tags on them!! I also have some 32x32 pants which I think are run small. I'll bring them when we come for Thanksgiving.

tennesseemom

^oh will you make your caramel corn for Thanksgiving?

monk

i enjoyed sitting across from you at the table. i enjoyed getting to talk and laugh with you. let's do more of that.

tennesseemom

I know a member of the church who voted for O. I'm tempted to print this out & take it to them.

a nation awaits its fate 11-04-08 12:58pm EST

Like thousands maybe even millions today I cast my vote as any American citizen should do. Standing in line I thought of my grandfather and how his life was a testimonial to this priviledge that I chose to practice today. It amazes me how people standing in line, commented on the turn out. Where have all these people been in the last years that I have been eligible to vote. I don't understand how my generation has not seen the value in having a say in our nation. Today no matter what the outcome, I know that God is in control. Nations come and go but the Word has standed beyond all of man's turmoil. My first graders memorized the Preamble to the constitution this year. This nation is founded on Godly principles, let us pray together that those principles remain the foundation and that we find ouselves back to those principles to ensure the freedoms that we have enjoyed not only in our daily lives but most importantly in our lives as God fearing Christians.

Are ya'll out of school for election day? We aren't here. We had a light schedule today so I volunteered to take off. I'm cleaning out closets, and throwing away stuff!! Anna got out early since one of her classes was canceled because the teacher works at the polls.
