If you would be so kind as to pray for Barry, we sure would appreciate you! His surgery is tomorrow morning, and recovery is ????? - we'll see. We're very optimistic, though, thanks to all of the encouraging calls, emails and stories that our friends (and even a few real nice strangers) have shared. Thanks so much! I'll try to get on here before too long for an update.
I'll be praying for Barry and for you as well. I know he will get through this and I will pray for the doctors and those who are helping him through this. *hugs*
Sweet children all around! When we had our first little one and then were expecting the second baby, an older preacher said to Barry, "You're gonna make an old hag out of her!" I'm rapidly approaching old hagdom, but not because of children. They are the best part of being in this world! Thank God for the little ones, and for Godly parents who are teaching, nurturing, loving them.
My sweet Kay. You are far from being a hag! In fact, you are probably one of the prettiest little ladies I know, and I say it's all because of the sweet children and grandchildren you have. (And a sweet husband, too!) Of course, I realize I could be a wee bit prejudiced, but I'm not the only one who thinks this. I, too, am proud of my children and grands, and especially my greats!! And I agree with you about the sweet parents who are training them up so well in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Love to all, Letha
Kay, Kay, Kay. When we saw each other, I hope I told you that you look as young as you did over 30 years ago, because you do! I'm so happy for your blessings of grandchildren!
you are a bit prejudiced with your recent comment on my blog, by the way! i am going to have to agree with everyone else- not sure you will never be a 'hag' sweet MIL!
School is eeehhhh.... I am about to quit my job because working and taking 12 hours is too much for me. These classes require soo much more work than I am used to and its killing me. Anyway, I can't wait until thanksgiving. How are you??
It's always nice to see you. You are far from hagdom. :) I forgot the name of the recipe website you were telling me about. Do you mind sharing it with me again? Thanks! :)
Thanks for the wonderful visit I had with you and your family last weekend. It was just great to be with all of your sweet kiddos (except little Beccas) and Warren and Debi and Billie. So glad I could go with you to Columbus and see Hollie and T.J. and their boys, also. Thanks for helping me out of Austin, too (you and little Barry). Great time! Love, Mom
Happy Belated Birthday. Sad that its written on the calendar right in front of my face! I think I have developed ADHD since having Greyson... or he enhanced it! Duh....
hmm was i not in any of the pictures? however did that happen? what a shame. you're right.. the room barely was enough for all the talent that was there already. such a scary thought. love you!
Kay!!!! It's Julie (Willams) Petry. I don't know if you remembe me or not. I worshipped with you when I was a student at Sam Houston State. You were a host at one of my wedding showers. You guys used to pick me up for church. At the time Rebekah was just about 4 or 5 years old.
Hey Kay! I miss ya! I leave for UNT August 15th. The first day of move in is the 17th and first day of classes is the 25th! Beau is great though hes a handful. How are things with you???
This article by Brett Arends, dated 4/23/08, was on Yahoo. Here are some excerpts.
I don't want to alarm anybody, but maybe it's time for Americans to start stockpiling food.
No, this is not a drill.
You've seen the TV footage of food riots in parts of the developing world. Yes, they're a long way away from the U.S. But most foodstuffs operate in a global market. When the cost of wheat soars in Asia, it will do the same here.
"Load up the pantry," says Manu Daftary, one of Wall Street's top investors and the manager of the Quaker Strategic Growth mutual fund. "I think prices are going higher. People are too complacent. They think it isn't going to happen here. But I don't know how the food companies can absorb higher costs."
Stocking up on food may not replace your long-term investments, but it may make a sensible home for some of your shorter-term cash. Do the math. If you keep your standby cash in a money-market fund you'll be lucky to get a 2.5% interest rate. Even the best one-year certificate of deposit you can find is only going to pay you about 4.1%, according to Bankrate.com. And those yields are before tax.
Meanwhile the most recent government data shows food inflation for the average American household is now running at 4.5% a year.
And some prices are rising even more quickly. The latest data show cereal prices rising by more than 8% a year. Both flour and rice are up more than 13%. Milk, cheese, bananas and even peanut butter: They're all up by more than 10%. Eggs have rocketed up 30% in a year. Ground beef prices are up 4.8% and chicken by 5.4%.
These are trends that have been in place for some time.
The main reason for rising prices, of course, is the surge in demand from China and India. Hundreds of millions of people are joining the middle class each year, and that means they want to eat more and better food.
A secondary reason has been the growing demand for ethanol as a fuel additive. That's soaking up some of the corn supply.
If this seems a stretch, ponder this: The emerging bull market in agricultural products is following in the footsteps of oil. A few years ago, many Americans hoped $2 gas was a temporary spike. Now it's the rosy memory of a bygone age.
Sure is nice to have him here all the time now. That other schedule was pretty tiring, especially for him. He called me at work the other day in a panic because he had 10 things that had to get done in 2 seconds (roughly) at the new job he has. One challenge was that he needed some womanly assistance with setting out refreshments to welcome the students back to school. It reminded me of the time, waaaay back, when he was called to be a substitute teacher in Colby's kingergarten class. It was Valentine's Day. He called me at home, sounding frantic. "I have to help them make valentines out of doilies - I don't know what to do with doilies!!!" Which is one of many reasons I was attracted to him in the first place. I personally don't want to live with a man who is proficient with doilies.
I can't WAIT to see you!!! Katie and I will be at Jacob and Ellen's Friday night. Haven't seen them in a while. Are you sure you want to hear what I have to say about motherhood? Didn't YOU have more kids than me???? lol!
We've had one visitor from the old group... A couple of us sent out cards inviting them to visit, and a lot of them were returned. I guess they moved??? But we are starting to get a lot of out of town visitors, and that will probably really pick up with Spring Break and summer vacations coming up...
Kay, I hope you are doing better! I'm still bummed that you got sick and had to leave. I hope we can get together again sometime. Love you! Saw Susan King Locklear Wednesday night and told her I saw you. She worships with Mom.
Hello to Becca and Heather's mom! They are such sweet girls and you must be so exited about your new grandson to be! I am a grandmother of an almost 12 month old sweet little girl named Oliva! Aren't grandchildren the best?
You would think that by now Kay would have posted several pictures of Silas, et al. Sure cute baby (also Mom and Dad and cousins, aunts, uncles, Marmo and Poppyseed, too)
