Update 07-20-08 06:50pm EST
The good news - we received an offer on the house today!

The bad news - it was pretty low and they were asking for quite a bit.

We responded to a couple of their concessions that we'd give up (which included them asking for the storage shed in the back, but that already stays anyway - sure, we'll give that up). But, we left the price where we want it. We'll see how serious they are if they have a response. Thanks for all the prayers.

That's the update there.

On an unrelated note, we had an interesting discussion in bible class this morning about I Cor. 7:39 where the scriptures state that a person who's spouse has died is free to marry again, but "only in the Lord". I've always thought, as I often hear it explained, that the phrase refers to marrying someone who is a Christian. However, it was brought up by some others, including the teacher, that they understand that to mean that they can only marry someone who is also free to marry (such as another widow(er), single person or divorced for scriptural reasons). I can certainly understand that view and I'm not sure where I stand on that one.
Any thoughts?
derbydiI'm going to study that and I'll get back with you!
bbeasleyCongratulations on the offer. Hopefully that will work out.

I've always taken that scripture to mean what the teacher told you. As a Christian in general, we are supposed to marry someone who is free to marry. So as a widower, that rule would apply to them as well. Just because your spouse dies doesn't mean you are free to marry an adulterer.
sarahtidwellSorry I wasn't there to hear that discussion. It sounds like it would have been an interesting class. I don't know how I would interpret that scripture. I've always thought it was to marry another Christian. I'll have to look at that again.
vanessacoxI think I'd be okay with another 2 year contract if AT & T didn't make me want to run head first into a brick wall!!
smiley_bethThis verse has hit close to home with me. I have heard both interpretations and have always been a little confused about the scripture. In my bitterness as a teenager I remember throwing this verse at my mother, but I don't know how justified I was.

Time to update 07-13-08 08:20pm EST
I've been pretty lazy about Pleo lately - maybe I just have other things going on! :) I've not posted and I really haven't been on to others blogs.

Not too much news here, though - spent the 4th in KY with Beth's family. We had a nice time and were able to see them and them. Otherwise, same old thing - busy with work, waiting for the house to sell and spending time with the kids.

Beth and I had a chance to get out by ourselves while my mom and dad watched the kids. We went to the Cheesecake Factory to use the gift cards I've had since January! (We don't get out alone near enough.)

I discovered a Yellow Jacket nest in the yard this weekend and sprayed it down with a pesticide tonight. Hopefully that'll take care of them.

Have a great week!
tucksmomGlad to see you all back home again.
mmmcoffeeooh, yellow jackets are ornery. and hard to get rid of! and their stings burn like fire for days. I don't like 'em.
all_gods_childrenWell, it's good to hear that you and Beth got a little time alone! That's always nice! And at the Cheesecake Factory! Yum!
sarahtidwellI enjoyed having the kids for a while Saturday evening. It had been a busy week and just spending time with the grandkids was enjoyable.
bbeasleyMMMMMMMM.... cheesecake! I wish we had visited there while we lived in town.

My Family Left Me! 06-29-08 07:15pm EST
Okay, now that I've got your attention! :)

Actually, Beth and the kids are in KY this week with her family. We drove up to Beckley, WV yesterday and met her father, he took them on to Lexington while I returned home. I'll go up next weekend and then bring them all back.

So, here I am, living the "bachelor" life for a few days - though, the "bachelor" life when you're married is so different than when you're a true bachelor plus, with the house on the market, I still have to keep it clean!

Today, one of my buddies from church was in the same boat, his wife and kids were out of town for the weekend, so after services we got together for lunch, hung out at his place for awhile, went to the park to throw the football around a bit, etc. It was nice to have someone to hang out with. It's quiet around the house, too quiet.

That's about it around here. Hope everyone has a great week!
tucksmom Yep, I'm sure there's a honey-do list somewhere...
sarahtidwellI hope you don't get too lonely. You can come over tomorrow night if you are lonesome.
bbeasleyIs there a conspiracy at church with all the wives and children leaving their men at home to fend for themselves? :)

Enjoy the quiet... it won't last too long.
batidwNo, no honey-do list! Everything was done to put the house on the market.

I'm enjoying not having to clean the house!
cdillman23Hope you enjoy the quiet because the "noise" will return soon. Brian doesn't like that quiet anymore either.
smiley_bethWe're enjoying your family. Drew actually got down on the floor and played with me tonight. I haven't really ever spent any time with him one on one or enough time around him in general for him to be comfortable around me. Both of your little ones here have the best smiles. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Thanks for the prayers.
mmmcoffeehave fun bach'ing it. A nice quiet house is a rare gift. but gets old after a while?
derbydiGuess your baching is over by now, but I hope you enjoyed it!
smiley_bethActually, I think it's your family that is taking care of me. Thanks!

Ahh, the ups and downs... 06-20-08 05:48pm EST
Last night, Beth and I took a look at another home that just went on the market this week. We've decided it's our favorite, has 4 bedrooms, plenty of space, spacious, level, fenced-in backyard! And, it's not far away from where we are now, so the location is great and the price is just about right!

Then, today, we received a call that we had a 2nd showing on the house! Someone had viewed it earlier this week and decided to come back, apparently with her daughter, to look again...then we got the feedback this afternoon.

"This house is no longer a contender."

It's kind of depressing, but I guess I need to remain patient.

I'm the type that once I decide to do something, I want to do it then, so the waiting is hard. But, I have to remind myself that we don't HAVE to move, we'd just like to upgrade and have more space so if it takes awhile, that's okay.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
mattdevoreI feel your pain.
bbeasleyI'm like you. I get an idea in my head and think it has to happen right now! It will happen. I'll keep you in my thoughts.
nagmichI completely understand where you are coming from! Hopefully you will sell soon.
cbairdSelling right now isn't quick and easy, but the right buyer will come along. :o)
christy34Hope your house sells quickly. I hated having to keep the house clean it was hard. We went last yr to the lectures. They are awesome. We can't wait!
aaauntiesPray... for your house to be a blessing to just the right buyer...@ just the right time. You can't go wrong!!
derbydiGood luck! A lesson in patience, I guess???
cdillman23I guess that is why we are siblings because I don't have the patience to wait either! Brian hates that once I say something is going to be done, I do it right away!! Good luck and pray for patience.
smiley_bethYou have a safe trip in delivering the family tomorrow. Looking forward to all being together.

What's been going on... 06-14-08 09:01pm EST
I went here on Friday. It was part of an office outing.

It was fun, but I didn't win.

I also ate here for the first time. Also during our office outing.
It was good.

We had one more showing this week - they wanted 2 full baths, of course, so do we! :) Oh well.
sarahtidwellGlad you enjoyed your outing yesterday. Thanks for taking us to the airport.
derbydiIt's so funny how people know what the description of a house is, but come look anyway. Do they think an extra bath is just going to appear???
