I really need to post something new, exciting, and meaningful, but there is not a whole lot going on (I think that is what I said last time-hehe)
School is getting better. I love my class and teaching 1st grade but I just need to get more organized and a better schedule so that my days are managed better. That way I get a lot more teaching done!
Lucas is almost 7 months old-I can't believe how fast time is flying. Next week he'll be leaving for college, or so it seems. He is sitting up better by himself. Poor baby, he loves to rock so much that he just falls right over. He is also scooting around backwards. Granny bought him a bouncy seat that looks like he is riding a horse and he'll bounce a few time and then lift his feet up to enjoy the ride-it is the funnest thing. Smart boy!
My mom and niece were here all week and that was nice but my niece is a HANDFUL!
My sister in law was married yesterday! He did the wedding and she was there too. It's always nice to see them. And I was able to talk to her for a bit too. All in all we had a great time!
that's about it for now. Hooray for a long weekend to spend with my family!
I thought I should update about what is going on in our life. There is SO much going on that I don't really know what to fill you in on.
I like 1st grade a lot. I have more patience with the kids and I really like what I am teaching them. I can't wait to really get into reading. Right now we are still reviewing the alphabet and phonics and colors and numbers and fun things like that. I'm in the process of assessing their reading/math levels-it takes 30 minutes per child and that is just for reading!
My team, well I wouldn't exactly call us a team because don't teams usually work together and not throw the others under the bus, back up and roll over them again?? That is basically what our team leader does to us. And even though our new principal knows how she is and that she just LOVES causing drama that still doesn't make any better :( Seriously, please pray for me and the other two girls that I love dearly on my team. It makes getting up and going to work very hard every morning. even though I love teaching and my class the day Phil signs a contract I will more than happily pack up my room and say Addios, Lord Willing!!
In other news, Lucas is 6mo old now!! My precious baby is growing so much so fast. And Taylor! He is 6 years old and he just looks so mature-those of you from church are probably saying "Taylor? Taylor Hunt? Yea right!!" LOL.
Oh, Phil and I bought new phones. We bought the Rumor from Lg. I've never had a new "trendy" phone despite my husband working for a cell phone company. It's pretty cool! :)
Anyway, time for bed...OH MY GOODNESS, I FORGOT TO MAKE CREAM CHEESE DANISHES FOR TOMORROW...I BETTER GO....
It hard to believe Taylor is 6. Does he attend the same school you teach at? Who keeps Lucas during the day when you are working? I hope you manage to stay out from under the bus. It is awful to have to worry about people like that. At least you like the job just not the team leader.
I am so glad that you love 1st grade! I really don't think I could go lower than 3rd...I just don't think I'd have the patience for that ALL day!!! haha! How's your new principal working out? My AP came to church with me yesterday. It was very nice. When are you guys coming here? I just cannot believe that I have never met your kid!!! :( Come visit!!!
I totally understand. The reason this child was placed in 4th is because of the age factor. She ws in 1st grade for a week, and her brother (one year older, same situation) was also placed in 1st. Parents of the other 1st graders went balistic. The Migrant Program went balistic. There are laws prohibiting children that old being with children that young. So..what's the district to do? They should be in a self-contained intensive ESOL unit. Unfortunately, our school doesn't have one. There is one at Dover, but no Knights. Honestly, I think this IS the only option.
oh my word...i'm so sorry about your team leader. haha...you could say the identical thing about my team leader. very difficult at times, but doesn't sound anything as bad as yours. I'll be praying for you.
We have a Brother HL-1440 laser printer. The laser printers are more expensive to purchase, the toner costs more at one time ($60), but it prints GREAT and has lasted much longer than any of our ink jets ever did.

Sounds like an excellent meal. I've got a homemade pizza in the oven. I am sure you have a special talent being a school teacher. You aren't giving yourself enough credit, girl!
I love this book! There are a couple of minor things I disagree with, but they are easy to fix. Based on their daily schedule, I came up with my own that includes the items I feel daily 5 left out. If I remember on Tuesday, I'll send you my revised idea.
meg, help!!! I'm watching the season premier of PB and I'm lost. The last I watched, they were still in Sona. Fill me in when you get time. BTW...I just saw that Susan is alive!?!
I would have loved to seen you too! We worshipped with the group at Campbell Road on Sunday-that's the church I grew up with! Hope your first few weeks of school are going well!
I am exhausted. I have 17 children. 8 boys, 9 girls. One who has NEVER attended school. Let me just tell you about her. She has a twin across the hall. She screamed for about the first 3 hours of school yesterday and ran out of my roomm about 15 times. Seriously, she was out the door and across the hall barging into her sisters class before I even saw her! Her mom says she has had a tutor but she does not even know her letters. Good Job tutor! I could go on and on but I won't bore you. The rest of my class looks like ANGELS compared to her so it's not too bad. Today was a little better. I don't really like the first day of school but this year was really different. I see my old kids and they look so much older and so perfect...I miss them. But I have to remind myself that I didn't always feel that way about them and I will love this class too (one day-hahaha)
hey, aren't you the same teacher who said, "Summer is approaching fast... Thank Goodnes! I'm not sure if I can take too much longer of my wonderful darlings (major sarcasm)-they are absolutely driving me up the wall!! :) They will be gone in 4 days. One girl actually said "I'm going to miss you next year" and my response was "well, you know where to find me". I think that was a little harsh......oh well." LOL!
At least your class is a good size at 17. I hope it will stay that way for a while. First graders do have a harder time getting started but they do adjust soon. At least they did for me. :)
Just think of how you'll be able to look at that girl at the end of the year and you know she'll HAD to have made SOME progress- and it'll be because of you! Good luck!
The reason your "old kids" seem so much older and perfect has something to do with the impact you made last year. You gave them the tools to begin this new year, and you will undoubtly do the same for this new class as well. :)
