It's time to start another week. We had our Fall meeting this weekend and the sermons were good as always. :) Other than that, we saw Space Chimps this weekend at the theater...it was pretty funny. What all did you do over the weekend?
You forgot one...watch OU kick Texas Longhorn hiney...hey you know what will be the famous saying after this weekend in Dallas? Beef it's whats for dinner...HA!
Yes very good...a whole 3 weeks...btw what did you get me? Oh I really know why you are leaving early...you hvae to go home and make sure you intercept it so that I am NOT home...huh? :)
I love to read books, but only started reading for fun again in the last few weeks. My last novel to read was Dee Henderson's Danger in the Shadows (btw it's a good read if you're into mystery/suspense/romance novels).
My favorite color is blue.
This is the only big city I've ever lived in.
I enjoy cooking and experimenting with different kinds of food. (Over the weekend, I made a homemade pizza - made my own crust too! It turned out pretty good for a first try but will need a few modifications next time.)
I love watching "older" (?) shows like The Waltons and The Cosbys..and Full House but I think that's a "newer" show even though they don't really play it on TV now.
My favorite game shows to watch are "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" and "Wheel of Fortune".
I work 9 hours days instead of 8 hour days so I can have every other Friday off work. My Friday's off are usually spent grocery shopping and running errands.
Well, my hubby just about summed it all up with his post...so see here to read all about our weekend. The one thing I didn't really expect is that when my hubby got to go up to the radio booth, I would get to go up there too! It was a nice view from the radio booth - right behind home plate! We have a few pictures of where we were and of the game, but I haven't had a chance to put them on the computer yet (sorry!).
My weekend was pretty good. But definitely not as good as yours apparently. I am just trying to patiently wait for Aaron to get home. Missed you guys yesterday!
I enjoyed lunch on Monday. Let me know if you have time to do it again. Oh, we will be here Sunday because Lance is sick. Or I guess I should say I will be at church on Sunday unless he gets me sick too.
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers! We made it safely through the Hurricane with minimal damage (only minor fence repairs will need to be done). Here's a quick summary of Hurricane Ike and the aftermath.
Friday - When we left Jimmy's work, the wind was already starting to pick up some, but the roads were almost completely empty...We moved our food, water, some games, flashlights, and candles into our master closet for the night...that's where we slept Friday night in case the windows got broke.
Saturday - Early in the morning the wind and rain picked up and we heard plenty of odd noises. A restless night, yes, but we made it through. Power went out somewhere around 2 or 3 am we think. We inspected our house later in the afternoon and found a section of our fence blown down and, of course, the tree that was planted about a year ago was blown down too. Other than that, no damage though.
Sunday - Power was out at the church building too, so we had a very abbreviated service in the foyer. About 140 people were there!! We were surprised at how many people stayed in town. A few members of our congregation had 3 or 4 feet of flooding in their homes and will most likely have to rebuild. A tree split another member's home right in half...so sad! We had a hot meal since we had a gas stove. Then we went to Target in the afternoon, just to get in some AC for a while! :)
Monday and Tuesday - These two days were pretty much the same. Jimmy went to work and I went to the store to get ice for our coolers (long lines, yes, but everyone was mostly in a good mood about it all). We had a power surge Monday night for a couple hours, but it was not to last.
Wednesday - Later in the day we got power back...YAY!
Thursday - One more trip to the store for ice and a few other things. I found out how badly some areas in my old college town were hit...some are still without electricity too. :'(
Friday - I'm back at work. My building was open on Tuesday but attendance wasn't mandatory and with the gas shortage in our area, I didn't want to risk it yet. But all is good now, and we are fortunate to still be alive. Things like this just make you realize what's important and how many blessings we do have.
Oh and for those of you that know my parents - they are doing okay. They still don't have power, but have a couple generators keeping their foods from spoiling and making the heat a little more bearable.
If we can help you make it through the aftermath in any way, please let us know - we'll do all we can to help.
I went on Hurrication to Austin for the storm. No damage at my place (I didn't come back until I was sure I had power), my parents just lost their fence. They just got electricity last night, so we're all doing well now. I'm glad y'all weathered the storm successfully and appreciate you checking on me!
I know you're probably tired of hearing about Hurricane Ike (especially if you live around Houston) so I'll make this short and sweet. It looks like we will be staying here and riding out the storm at home. If you live in the area and need anything, just give us a call...we'll do our best to help! Whatever you do, please stay safe!
