James' parents are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, so he and I are heading down today for a quick trip. Julie is watching our kids for us. We're just hoping our dog, Molly, doesn't have her puppies while we're gone!
We are home - safe and sound. Highway 12 might have been a better choice. We were slowed (considerably) for 17 miles east of the pass due to the high volume of traffic heading home after the holidays. I had not thought about that.
Then our Highway 18 short cut was backed-up due to the same issue. So, we stayed on I-90 and went downtown and caught the ferry.
I love summer. School is out, the weather is gorgeous and I just got home from my sister's home in Roseburg, OR and picked many, many strawberries. We ate strawberries until we could eat no more. I made 6 batches of jam, brought home a cooler full of frozen berries and several pounds of fresh berries. We had strawberry shortcake every day. It was strawberry heaven. The one huge blight was the poison oak. Luke is violently allergic to it. The other three kids climbed all through it and got not one spot on them. Luke touched a leaf, washed his hands and he's now unrecognizable. I had to take him to the urgent care place in Roseburg and they gave him some shots. That was Thursday and by that evening he was worse. His left eye was swollen shut and his face was oozing and puffy. We drove home Friday - 8 hours with barely a stop - took him to the medi center here and they sent him straight to the hospital. They gave him an I.V. and he's doing better now. I, however, woke up at 4 a.m. and had to go make sure he was still alive. He looks so pathetic. But at least we'll be able to enjoy the jam for months to come!
Oh poor Luke! Awful for him. Wow - that is some allergy too!! Glad you all were able to get so many berries. Don't know if they are that ripe here, but now I am going to have to get on it and check. Love the local farms - the ones that don't use the chemicals. Hope Luke is doing better now.
Our house hasn't sold. March and April were busy. May and June have been extremely slow, but with all that has gone on, that might have been a blessing. I don't think we have any poison oak in our yard. My kids are allergic too!
No availability for a 27' trailer. I saw a spot with a max = 20' and an ADA-only spot with max = 24'. Plenty of tent spaces, including several close to us.
oh so cool that you have 3 kids going to camp! I will keep an eye on her. I am sure her siblings will as well. My motem has been down for a week now. I miss the internet. Over at the coast with the girls in a softball tourney. Have this internet service off/on.
Hey Miss Chick, Are you gonna come visit or what? Have you pinned James down to a date yet? This thursday, Friday Saturday, Sunday, are great days to come visit. We actually have sunshine right now. We had to come home from CA to get some sunshine. Call me or pleo Tim tell James we need to see you all, even him. :) Michelle
i miss ya'll and love ya'll i am sooo sorry that i haven't gotten around the sending pix... everything is sooo busy! i snuck out while the babies we're sleeping, mom's with them right now... but anyways, i love u!
We just got back from Camp and moving my parents from KS. Ths summer is slipping away. My older three got to go. It was a total win win. The three had a blast and I got some quality 1-1 with my fourth. Hope you get to do the same.
i hope James passed along my story to you. I would have given anything for a camera. Barry was really laughing hard until Shannon reminded him of a picture taken at the hotel lobby at lectures!!
A puppy followed me home this morning on my run. He was following this other man who walks, then he decided he liked me better I guess. I got to our gate and left him outside, but he managed to worm his way through the fence. Our other dogs are so happy, and the kids are outside playing with him and they've named him Randy. We have Simon, who is almost 2, a golden Lab. And we have Molly who is a 9 month old golden lab, and our nephew's and niece's dog Lucy, who is part black lab, and our neighbor's dog, Marley who crawls under the fence every day, a golden retriever. Too many dogs around here. I'll have to post some signs today. *sigh* He has no collar.
glad you had a good time - that is super to hear! I am hopeful that brea will want to go to senior days this coming september & then I will go and see friends. sweet deal for me - we'll see.
Is Luke coming to camp?! I just saw your note on my sister's blog. That is soooo neat. Robert and Tim are going. This will be Tim's first year being 4 days older than Luke I believe.
I'm sure Luke's application will be in time -- I'm so glad he's going to be able to come. Shannon told me he might and it's great that you've been able to work it out.
Melissa, I've not gotten Luke's application. I'll save him a place, but why don't you send another application w/o a check? Then if it comes, I'll let you know.
i kept yelling bad birdies every time they got a score. warren kept laughing!! he almost got hit in the head by a softball. his friend was all," HOLY MOSES!!!!! WHAT WAS THAT!!!" it was hilarious.
We're getting ready for our Florida trip. I checked the weather and it's warm there! Last night on our way home from karate, the car was making a funny noise, I thought a window was down but it ended up being a flat tire. Thankfully James was nearby and he and another friend came and fixed it. It took almost an hour and it was freezing outside. It took me a couple hours to warm up afterwards! My last flat tire was long before Luke was born, so this one should hold me over for another 15 years or so. We went skiing on Wednesday. Nathan and I stayed on the bunny hill - that was enough excitement for me. It snowed and the wind blew the whole time. Brrr. James and the girls hit the big slopes and had a ball. It's going to be so weird to be in 85 degree weather on Monday. I'm actually looking forward to thawing out for a few days!
I am jealous too! Global warming - sure, what a joke. Don't those folks know that God created this Earth and it is wasting away - intentionally. silly folks.
Hi. Welcome back. So, are you going back up to White Pass with the 150" base? It has been incredible how all of the passes have been closed so often this winter. No way to get from here to there!
Sorry I missed you all Tuesday night. I went to the Dairy Queen on 56th but didn't see you, so I waited around for a while and then had to go on back to Orlando to get some sleep before coming back in the morning. We'll try to see you all next time we're out that way.
No problem, I thought something like that might have happened and I hadn't given you my cell phone number. It's been a while since I had a dipped cone anyway. :)
James decided to use his frequent flier miles and four of us are flying free. We were going to leave Anna and Nathan with my sister, but I just didn't feel happy about that, so they are coming too. We got everything booked and reserved. There are so few christians out here, and going to lectures is so uplifting and energizing for us. It's important for the kids to see so many christians together, hear the talks, meet friends, etc. Our congregation numbers around 30, and there is only one alto (me - which isn't saying much) so our singing leaves much to be desired. So being able to sing praises with hundreds of other voices is moving beyond words! We're really looking forward to going down there!
i wish we could go, but we can't. maybe one year we will go and we will get to see you guys. the topic this year is so perfect for teens, which made me want to go even more. oh well
Yippeeee! Good for you guys! That is sooo sweet. Sorry to say we can not join you all. Bum, but how wonderful you all get to go and enjoy it all. Hopefully you'll have some nice weather to boot.
Maybe I'll see you guys there! I don't know for sure, though, because I'm not sure about missing a whole week of college classes (except for my online class, I can do that there).
Oh! I see the Yakima exit all the time - my family lives in Beaverton, OR and my husband I travel down there frequently. We live in Renton Highlands. My husband works for the city of Bellevue and I work in downtown Seattle. We're kind of all over the place :)
Zach Echols preaches there (he hasn't posted in a year) - I don't know the couple you referred to. You probably knew Dan & Barb Bass? They're still there. Steve & Toni Nicholes...
Any of those names familiar?
Yes, we love Dixie & Norbert. They used to sit on our pew - did for a couple of years until they couldn't make it as often when Norbert became sick. We went to Norbert's funeral and ever since Dixie has not been doing well at all. She was in the hospital and is not home but still not really eating. :( She's a sweet, sweet lady!
