So here I am on my new old computer that Adam bought at a garage sale for $20 and Jody fixed for us. With its crazy lights and plexiglass covering, it looks like an overly modern jukebox. Doesn't matter how odd it looks, it's fast and it's giving me no problems and its cost was only about $50 after all was said and done. I love a bargain. I'm thinking Frank might be a good name for it. You know, for Frankenstein. I really don't like the name Frank though.
As for Thanksgiving, nothing huge going on, just lots of small family things. S & J will come home Tuesday and Adam will be in on the first flight Wed. morning. Thursday we'll have Thanksgiving dinner here with Adam's parents. At some point after dark we'll have our traditional bonfire and dessert with friends. This originated one Thanksgiving after we had spent the day with my sister in law's Spanish relatives. It was quite festive, in a Spanish way. Doesn't everyone form a conga line around the turkey? We didn't stay as long as everyone else. Instead, we took our aching heads and headed home where we lit a fire in our fire pit and relaxed in the backyard. It's been a tradition every year, except last year. Last Thanksgiving Adam came down with a mysterious flu that most of us ended up getting. I cringe just thinking about the body aches and fever!
On to better things. Friday I intend to go to the new outdoor mall in the evening to see the spectacular christmas decor. Well, we might have company that night, but if no, Wiregrass here we come!
Saturday my tiny little dark baby with the black hair will be 20 years old! He's such a man now. What happened? Just a little diddy about that. I really wanted to name Jesse, Jesse. I also wanted to give him the middle name of a very special uncle- Jack. I didn't give it much thought right away, but I'm glad I finally did. Yes, Jesse Jackson Lester would not have worked! I think my dad and step mother will come to dinner for Jesse's B-day. Alex and I went shopping at Sound Exchange today for B-day presents. I think we will also do some christmas decorating that day. I want to do a lot of lights in the backyard this year. Hmmm..when will I work this weekend?
Tomorrow I am going to my optometrist for the 3rd time in a month. He keeps experimenting with my contacts and they get worse each time. At least I'm not paying for them!
Oh, I'm tired. Too many sinus/allergy/cold/cough/etc. pills lately!
Today I baked 4 pies for our Thanksgiving gathering. Two sugar cream pies, 1 blueberry pie and one cherry pie. Tomorrow I have to make lots of bread. And several side dishes for our big meal on Thursday. Can't wait - yummmmmm! Sarah turned 9 last Saturday. Happy Birthday to Jesse.
This past summer I had my contacts updated. Took them 4 times to get it right. I wasn't very happy about that. But, am happy now that I can see pretty well. Not as good as I would like to, but I can read small print again so I am happy.
Oh yes. I forgot why the annual bonfire was canceled last year. Now I know.
Sadly..I think I am coming down with a sickness too! I've been having some flu-like-symptoms late last night and today. :( I'll be sure to get better before Thursday night though!
Do you want us to bring a cream cheese pumpkin roll or an earthquake cake tomorrow night? I'm going to be making both of them anyways, so just pick your poison (just kidding, there's not going to be any poison in them, I promise.)
Saturday my street had garage sales. We participated in order to get rid of some junk. Only made $50, but when one sells a gas grill for $1, french doors for $20, a boat motor for $5, and various stuff for a quarter, what does one expect? One expects to have less junk around, and we suceeded! Those french doors were pretty, but they sat around on our back porch for more than a couple of years trying to fugure out how they were going to install themselves where our sliding glass door is. The problem- sliding glass door has an extra panel making it quite a bit larger than french doors. French doors owner has only so much time for home projects.
Ah- it's a good feeling.
It's always such a good feeling to get rid of one's junk. And as the old saying goes "One man's junk is another man's treasure." So you helped some people find some treasure too.
...and they want Bonne Bell glitter machines in all the bathrooms. Must be that sheep costume Obama has been wearing. I did find the good thing in his being elected though- Atlanta didn't have to call out the riot control that they had put in place in case Obama lost. It's true, so sad that it could have come to that, but true.
What now? We pray! So many prayers were sent up for the right leader, now it's time we pray that the one the country chose will make good decisions. Just because he supports late term abortion doesn't mean he can't change his mind. Just because he wants to pull the troops out of Iraq early doesn't mean it has to be a disaster. Our prayers are needed more than ever!
In other election news- Bob White won Pasco county sherrif again, barely! Whew, that was a close one! I am disapointed that Elizabeth Dole lost though. She once sat behind us on an airplane and later on the tram Alex let her have his seat and she called him a "nice young man" (say it in her accent). That's not why I wanted her to win though. A republican in her seat is needed!
History has indeed been made, and that's a good thing. Let's pray that the next 4 years are too.
p.s.- I'm trying really hard not to post a picture of Obama on puppet strings. I'm doing a good job, but it sure is tempting.
I have to say we are very upset with the choice of our new president elect. Obama stands for so many evil things. We are like you and hope that he will change his mind on so many things. Prayers are needed - many prayers every day. I have to keep telling myself - God is in control!
God is the ONLY one I will stand behind. I find myself not as forgiving as you seem to be. I can not stand behind a man who stands for all the things he does. I still don't think he is eligible to hold this office in our land.
I'm sorry if I made you feel like you were for him, it's just that my patience with him is not there.. I'm not a happy camper about this at all.. I hope to get over this, but fear that I may never trust him and I fear for us all, I pray for safety and good decisions, but it just reminds me of the verse in Samuel where the people pray and pray and whine about a King and they get one (NOT that that's what we prayed for) but once they got one, it wasn't a good outcome. I am with you on the fact that we need to stick together and be happy for those men that are righteous and who are leading our country.
By the way, I have never been or felt this politically minded before. I just wonder where the young people of America are getting their values! I am so glad to know like minded Christians such as your family and the family there at Livingston! ~hugs!
And we voted this morning. Dan had to wait 10 minutes at 6:00 a.m. I had no waiting at all at 10:00 a.m. Other places in our state are having very very long lines.
We are with ya sister!!! We got up early to go and vote! only about a 10 min. wait at 8:30.. My parents came blowing in with their flags on their car!!! it was a funny sight to see! But very patriotic! Go all of us!!! Praying
OH... my brother in law is so nervous that he won't watch ANY tv tonight.. He just wants to wake up in the morning and find out.. He is so stressed out about it.
Ok, my "small business" doesn't earn anywhere near $250,000, but I know many people who do and they are the hardest workers I know. Although this may be the least important issue to many, it happens to be on my mind right now because Alex and I were discussing taxes this morning. Yesterday abortion was on my mind. Don't get me started!
