Well we are in Arkansas this week visiting Marcus' family and having a great time! Landon is just talking away. He has had a huge language explosion lately! Marcus is getting a new schedule at Verizon where he will be home more often and thats great news!
I have been so busy that I've hardly had time to get on here so I hope everyone is doing good.
That is so great! Get ya some catfish while there if you like it. Enjoy your time with your fam. It is like they learn stuff over night or they have been soaking it up and one day it all comes out!!!! It is amazing, they are so sweet!I am glad that marcus will be home more often!
Thank you sooo much for the clothes. We will get a lot of use out of them...ARE ALREADY getting a lot of use out of them! We'll take good care of them for you:) Have a great vacation!
I love Summer although its a little too hot to handle sometimes here. We have been going to our pool everyday and Landon loves it. He is getting better about obeying, thanks for all your advice! Unfortunately he is too much of a daredevil and wants to jump in the pool "by self" he says. I let him once as a scare tactic...he went to the bottom of the shallow end and I got him out. He proclaimed, "again!" Guess my scare tactic didn't work. I will really have to watch that boy! Its so sweet when they are beginning to talk though. I am guilty of drinking way too much sweet tea and go to McDonalds almost every day to get it...$1.07...you can't beat that! Well Landon now asks for fries everytime, which I hardly ever let him have. He has also started crying just when we drive up to the church building. Sunday, we said, "ok its time to go to church" and he said, "No! I go to McDoe." It was hard not to laugh that hed rather go to McDonalds.
Guess I should quit my McDonalds habit before he gets to much older...sigh
Hey, look into putting him in survival swim lessons with ISR. It's a wonderful program and both of my kids went thru it!! It will show him that water isn't all fun, but there's work involved too. My kids can both swim underwater, flip over and float on their backs to get air, flip back over and swim to get out or stay afloat until they're rescued!! It's really awesome!! It's a national program and you can go to ISR.com, I believe. It's Infant Swim Resource. It's 10 mins a day, M-F for about 6 weeks, exhausting, but one of the best things I ever did for my kids!! And I know that you're thinking, 10 mins? Believe me, it's PLENTY!!
I can't believe your McDonald's sells sweet tea. We are so deprived up here in the northwest!!
Caleb hit that stage where we would be driving to church and he would say "I don't want to go to church, I don't like church." So we'd have to go over with him all the things we knew he would like...playing with the kids, singing bible songs, listening to stories...And we said "We go to church to worship God. Isn't God great? He made everything, including you!"
One of my girls had a thing about church. She was fine in Bible class, she was fine while we were singing but as soon as the preacher got up, that was her cue to start crying and pitching a tantrum. It was like that for about 6 months. Then, she was back to normal. He will stop crying about it one day. :)
I have not tried it but now you mention it, i guess i might have too. hey when do you go to the pool, do you go to the main one? so do we, we are going friday but i go later then i bet you do.
Hey Mel!! How are you doing? We are having an amazing time here at the beach!!! Charleston is awesome!!! To answer your question, we are going on a cruise for the Honey moon, we are going to Cozemel, and the Caymen islands. So we are very excited! We are flying into Tampa on Sunday and then flying back out on Sunday! So I get two vacations in a three week period!!!
hey , thanks for checking up on me , that was sokind, yes, besides surgery on my arm we were all ok. Enjoyed seeing yourlittle nephew this week at swimming lessons. I can't believe what a little daredevil you have,... sounds busy:). I am sure he is just precious and tons of fun though:) maybe we will run into each other one of these days.
That's very sweet. I would love to borrow the clothes...anything to help ease the financial load that goes along with clothing a family of 6 is welcome!!! Is your name on the tags?
Disclaimer: I want to start off by saying that Landon IS a very sweet boy and we love him very much but he has entered that age.
Landon has always been a very friendly boy but lately he makes ugly faces when people talk to him. He also started throwing fits on the floor. I thought, oh well here come the terrible twos...I could deal with this. WRONG! He has also gotten a little ugly to Marcus and I and does NOT want to potty train. But the worst...he has become a Dennis the Mennis.
A few days after his birthday, I went upstairs for seriously less than a minute. I came back down to find he had reached up with his long monkey arms, opened the laundry room door, reached on top of the dryer, gotten the Purex laundry detergent down, opened it and poored it all over the floor...what a mess! That wasn't the worst though, I also say him eat it! I had to call Poison control for the 2nd time in 2 months...not good! They said it was fine.
I decided to not ever leave him downstairs by himself again. Well, Friday I had taken a shower while Marcus was still home and he had to leave for work shortly before I had to leave. I was running late and trying to dry and straighten my hair (not an easy task). I put Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on (his favorite show) and went into the downstairs bathroom not 20 feet from him thinking surely I would hear something. I come out after 5 minutes to find he had again reached on top of our 4 foot high bar emptied the cup with all our pens and found the one sharpie in the bunch. A brown one. Well you can guess what he did next....he drew ALL OVER our wall. It is still there today and we have to go buy primer and paint over the whole wall. My mom and my MIL thought it was funny...I did not!
I have a feeling this is just the beginning. He now throws horrible tantrums, tries to stay up late, still wants his pacifier all the time (not good!), and gets into everything!
I think we will wait awhile for our second child! :-)
Hey just a thought, Ignore the tantrums completely. and don't rush the potty, (lydia can care less). What Jan(sister-in-law) told me to do is start enforcing-- when we are 3 we don't wear diapers anymore, I mean sure I would love for her to train and she has done it several times, but I don't want to rush it. Good Luck and if you find anything that works share it with me.
Whoa, girl! It sounds like he's giving you a time!! My niece recently got into my sister's mascara and made a huge mess with that. I hope things will get better!
SO sorry Melanie!! You will get through this! just make sure you and marcus win. And I agree with her Don't push the potty training, especially when dealing with this new stage. My first trained at 26 monthswith no problem and ym 2nd was closer to three. And now at 3 still won't poop in a toiet. Don't feel like you have to do it just b/c he's two. Spend your energy getting through this stage and then when you feel you have things somewhat back under control, try the potty training. And spaking from experience, this stage may last awhile. ;-0 Don't give up!!!
Coming from someone with no children yet, all I can say is good luck and that I better start praying now for an easier time than it sounds like you're having. My luck, I'll have one worse. HA! Well, I can say "Ha" now, but I won't be in a few years when mine reach that stage.
The 3's were bad for us but Caleb never really did the whole Dennis the Menace stuff. It was mostly the talking back and throwing himself around. I'm feeling for you!
Wow, I don't even know the number for poison control, if I need it, I'll call you. Clear your counters/anything he could reach of anything that he should not be getting. You could get those child safety door knob covers. I don't know how they work, I've never used them, but I guess they keep little ones from being able to open a door. I wouldn't have thought the sharpie incident to be funny either. One of my kids (I don't remember which one, wrote on my headboard with a sharpie.) Do you punish him for these things? Also, from experience, don't push the potty training. If he's not ready, he's not ready, you can't make him be ready. Jake was 3 1/2 before he was completely potty trained. But, he did eventually get it. He had no problem with peeing in the potty, he could even stay dry all night. He just felt no need to poop in the potty. But, it will pass and he will get it. People always say, "No one ever starts Kindergarten in diapers."
Also, kids naturally test their limits. It will continue throughout childhood- just in different ways. It's no fun, but you get through it. Sometimes you don't know how you did! But, you will. And you won't do it perfectly either. You are learning just like he is!
Wow, I can't believe you've had to call poison controll twice! What was the other possibly harmful substance he ingested? I'm sure it will start getting better soon. Just find some mothers who you really respect, who have very well behaved small children and ask their advice. I'm sure you'll find your own way to do things too, good luck with everything. He may be a stinker but he sure is cute/
We love that place too. We've been there twice with Andrew, once with Brady. All experiences have been wonderful. It doesn't hurt to have Vickie across the street also. She knows a lot about nursing. I'd have been more flustered if she hadn't walked over...
Funny, Stephen Cunningham was also in the After Hours place getting his foot sown up. Cut it badly on Bob P's boat...
Yep, he's an excellent preacher, we really love having him. I can't believe he ate your deodorant, that's hillarious. I'm glad you guys are doing good...other than Landon trying to put any and everything in his mouth:)
Haha! I am sorry. I shouldn't laugh. But he sounds just like Conner. Conner is a little Dennis the Menace too! He found a pen once and took it to my couch... grrrrrr. Brace yourself, for me, 3 is worse. Just stay consistent and he will be fine!
is landon doing any better? have good days and bad? lydia loves to whine and it just about sends me over the edge, i cannot stand it, but have to tolerate and ignore.
Wow! 32 pounds at the two year check up? Emma and Jake are 5 and 6 and both weigh about 33 pounds. But, I'm guessing that Kent will be just like Landon. I don't care at all, he is just too much for me to carry sometimes. I'm a wimp. I guess I should work out!
Well tomorrow, the 6th is going to be a very bitter-sweet day for me. My little baby or should I say big boy is turning 2 and I'm so blessed to have him. However, my childhood dog, Penny, who is very sick will also be put down tomorrow. VERY sad! Shes been such a good dog to me but thankfully I had over 14 years with her.
On to new things though...
Landon is such an awesome little boy and we're so excited to celebrate his 2nd birthday! We love him so much and I know we are blessed.
Happy 2nd Birthday Landon! I'm really sorry about your dog, that's so sad. Chris's parents had to do the same thing to his childhood dog and I know he was upset about it.
We have had to do that with our doggie too...it is very hard and I will be thinking of you and your family. They are so much like one of the family after that long. I am sorry.
I cannot believe Landon will be 2....where does the time go. He is so cute and I know you will have an awesome day celebrating with him!!
Happy birthday Landon! We'll be there soon ourselves in a couple of weeks! Sorry about losing a special pet though...Hope Landon's birthday is a good distraction from that.
Happy Birthday to Landon! I am sorry to hear about your doggie though! I know that You will miss him, I'm afraid the day is nearing for my childhood dog to pass as well. He is 13.
Well, I'm not teaching now. I'm on maternity leave. I'm going back in August. I'll be at Temple Terrace Elementary teaching Kindergarten again. Where will Landon go to school?
I don't actually think Folsom is a bad school. I went and interviewed there last year before I transferred to Pizzo. I did lots of research on all the schools before I interviewed because I wasn't going to interview anywhere that I wouldn't feel okay taking the kids to. I was happy with Pizzo too. Emma loves it there, but I was more interested in Temple Terrace, that's why I transferred. Anyway, Landon's only 2. There's no telling where you'll be by the time he's in Kindergarten.
And...I'm sure this is way more info than you are interested in, but Folsom is an A school. That's great, Temple Terrace is not an A school, but Lewis is. But, it is a Title 1 school, so you would be eligible for school choice. So, there you have it. I know...too much information.
hey melody tara here, it seems as if landon took longer to get to 2 then Lydia, it goes by way way to fast. she will be 3 4 mnths and i can barely stand it. i miss my baby.
I know, it's been forever...I finally got sick of looking at my old post and had time to do it. How are you doing? Anything new going on with you guys? How do you like you new job, does Marcus still like Verizon? Hope you all are doing good:)
Well today (after waiting 2 months) was Landon's pediatric opthamologist appt. It has been a long time coming. It started about 6 months ago. He always said, "mama head" and makes this weird face and rolls his eyes back. WE thought it was his sinuses or something but his CT scan was fine. So then his pediatrician decided it might be his vision. Lets face it, his dad and I both wear glasses so we were afraid he would. He did great but we found out he is far-sighted (meaning he can only see far, not up close). I am both and Marcus is near-sighted. Well hes not quite 2 yet so the doctor wants to wait 6 months. She said since hes not in school or having to read yet it would be more of a hassle than a help to put him in glasses now. But, just as I was afraid of...he needs glasses. Poor kid! I always hated mine growing up. She said we could try to wait til hes 3 but if his eyes start crossing or get worse, then sooner. So my lil guy...we'll all be wearing glasses (or contacts). Oh well, we are blessed and it could be worse!
Just keep telling yourself that it could be worse! He is still a healthy kid. I'm with you though. I hated my glasses growing up. But I'm blind without something. I'm glad it was only his vision though and not something serious with his head.
I'm far sighted, I got my first pair of glasses when I was 3. The first thing I said when they put the glasses on me was "Hey Dad! You have a button on your shirt!" Yeah, it was that bad. I love little kids with glasses on!
Aw! He really will be adorable in glasses!! I'm really thinking my boys will probably end up needing them too! I'm very blind, and David needs glasses, but gets by alright without. Guess we'll see!
