Surgery went as scheduled on 11/18/08. The doctor said everything went as planned and he foresees a good recovery!! I did have to have a spinal fusion.
I came home on Sunday, 11/23/08. Walking into my house felt like a big ole bear hug - so good to be home!! Jody had school Monday & Tuesday, so I was mostly home alone those two days. I have great friends who brought me lunch, dinner, etc., and took GREAT care of me. Jody came back Tuesday evening and has been here with me ever since. Turns out he is a very good care taker, I don't know what I would do without him!! I am really going to miss him when he leaves tomorrow. But I am feeling pretty good and getting stronger every day. I will be having some physical therapy here at the house for the next 3 weeks (twice a week). And of course I have my great friends from Southside church of Christ who take good care of me. I am a very fortunate woman. THANKS Becky, Kelli, Kensi, and Nancy!
Thanksgiving was good. After much discussion about our "options", Jody decided to cook. I sat in the kitchen and "talked him through it", and he did the work. Lunch was wonderful. SO MANY THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR.
I missed our annual singing school on 11/22/08, but I hear it was a great success. There were many new faces this year and a good number attending. Diana Dow taught the women's class this year, and I heard she did a great job. THANKS Diana!
Guess that is all for now. Thanks to all for keeping me in your prayers during this time. It is going to be a long road to recovery (6-8 weeks), so please keep the prayers going up!!
yay! glad to hear your are doing well. Hope you keep trucking and feeling better. I'll be back in Silsbee everyday starting Monday and came run errands on my lunch break...just call me.
I was glad to see your name lit up in white. I'm glad your recovering nicely. I had a lot of fun at the singing school but it just wasn't the same without you.
As some of you already know, my back surgery has been scheduled for Tuesday, November 18, 2008. The worst part of this timing is that I will miss our wonderful annual Singing School at Southside in Silsbee, and I will not be able to play hostess to Glenda. I always look forward to having her stay with me and visiting with her.
The doctor has not made a decision yet about whether he will perform a lamenectomy or a spinal fusion. I had more tests done last Friday and the results of those tests will determine the type of surgery I have. I am not too worried about it, except for the time I will miss from work; I do not want to leave my boss in a bind.
I am very much looking forward to NOT living in pain 24 hours a day!!!!
Please keep me (and my doctors) in your prayers. THANKS!
Sorry you're having to go through surgery. I hope you get the results you're looking for. We plan on being at y'alls singing school. It just won't be the same without you.
I highly recommend my friends read the recent comments posted on two other blogs I read just this morning: "gallatinrealtor" and "biobo". I do not know how to link to those sites (and Jody is not here to do it for me), but the comments are certainly worth your time to read!

Lunch and dinner will be provided to all attendees. In years past this has been a big success, and we hope everyone who had planned to attend in September can still come and join with us.

Well, what an exciting month for Southeast Texas. Two evacuations, 2 weeks apart. First a "miss", then a "hit". My house did not sustain any damage from Hurricane Ike (YEA!), just some tree and fence damage to my yard. Bruno (my beloved Boxer) and I evacuated to the Woodville area and stayed with friends from church. We left on 9/11 and returned 9/20. All in all, we had a wonderful time! We had a real "Hurricane Party". We lost electricity, but the folks I stayed with had a generator, so we had lights, fans, etc. Did our cooking on a grill and on a one burnder propane "hot plate". The place was as busy as a hotel, lots of people coming and going, helped take our minds off of the situation. My back problems persist, and my doctor's office will not re-open until next Monday, 9/29.
Please continue to keep me in your prayers, hoping to get the surgery scheduled soon and hoping it will put an end to this awful pain.
Our building at Southside in Silsbee did have some damage from the storm. As soon as the building is repaired we are still hoping to reschedule our Singing School. Still shooting for sometime in November. Will keep everyone posted.
