aka Luke Tomahawk, Luigi, Lu
15 years old tomorrow
Having two children leave home for college, I am so thankful to still have Luke around for a few more years.
He fills our lives with sunshine and our house with music....and lots of it! He has been such a blessing.
Happy birthday, Lu!!
Oh I didn't mean it kept ringing off the hook last night. But over the course of the past week it's rang with enough bad news that I've lost all focus. And that's with screening my phone calls.
BTW, I saw the new FC magazine. He looked good on the front cover! :)
You and your dear family have always been such an encouragement to me. I'm sure my husband will love you just as much, if not more, than I do!
We'll be at Eastside this Sunday. Hopefully we'll get an opportunity to speak with the Elders regarding placing membership(I was SO jazzed when I saw that there are elders now! :) )
1. I love palpating veins and starting IV's.
2. Both of my ankles were broken in a car wreck when I was 2 years old.
3. I was bitten by a cougar when I lived in Tampa.
4. I love rainbows.
5. I worked in an emergency room for 5 years (most likely where I developed #1).
6. I didn't marry until I was 28 years old.
7. My kids call me 'the coupon queen'!
8. As much as I love him, I just can't bear to watch CSPAN with him.
I'll tag:

Wow on #2 and #3! I have to agree on #8 as well. Neal can watch CSPAN and CNN and stuff all the time. Madison can even tell you "Cain" and "Obama" when she spots them. Pretty bad when a 2 year old knows the presidential candidates. 1 minute of it is enough for me. I don't mind CNN when it's talking about world news but the politics bore me.
Oh and eww on #1! LOL
I'll try to get on this sometime this week. Things are busy around here with a 2 year old and a 1 year old. Yesterday I babysat them AND another 2 year old. Well, Lauren was here too and the other girl's mother. But still very busy.
Hey you! Are your not so little ones driving home for Thanksgiving by any chance? I am desperately looking for someone Geoffrey can catch a ride with. I can't find a plane ticket I can pay for. If they are and would carry him along drop me a note.
I just sent you an email, Mrs. Metzger! Do you still use the "kip.net" address? That was the most recent one I could find (and that's not recent..'05 camp directory!) Our old computer retired and along with it, my old email account with all my addresses and such.
we didn't expect to look out our back door to see this when we returned from worship this morning.
Bill and Luke skipped lunch and worked all afternoon. My brother-in-law came over from Auburn with his chainsaw to help.
oh dear! you had it worse than we did! The branch that came out of our tree was about 3' long. That's it! It is amazing to me how strong these weather systems are and how long they can continue.
Yes yes!!!! Your super sweet daughter is amazing and asked me to speak. I am honored and scared at the same time!!! I still don't know what to speak on. I need to figure it out too!
I am really good!! I think that I have finally conquered my overwhelming need to be at FC, though I still miss it at times. But I have been blessed to have a loving family, a busy schedule that keeps me hoping, and a somewhat regular paycheck despite the fact that I don't have a "real" job. Life is indeed very good. But God is better! I love you! Say hi to your family for me! Have a great day!
Please email me (email address on my home page) a dedication, thought or scripture that you would like put on the dedication page of the cookbook. We are also encluding camp directors etc. Thanks.
In my last post, Bill and Luke were counting down the days until school was out, and now they've been back in for the past 2 1/2 weeks. Some of the more 'challenging' 3rd graders have started to emerge for Bill. Julianne had one of them at the Boys and Girls club this summer. Her name is Trinity, and she can not stop talking! When her mom picked her up this summer, Julianne said the mom would just put her hand over Trinity's mouth. She also whines...a lot. Luke has started high school, and he seems to be settling in well.
I will attempt to summarize at least parts of the summer with random pictures. This was one of the our last pictures together, and it might actually date back to spring break.
Early in June was our VBS at Eastside. Bill and Julianne taught together as Gideon and the angel who spoke to him.
One of Ben's former roommates, Roger Polanco, stopped by for a quick visit and to drive Ben's car that we like to call the Phoenix, because it rose from the ashes--very long, complicated story.
We were able to spend the 4th of July with Ben in Washington DC and watch the fireworks with him in the President's back yard! :^) He had a wonderful, memorable experience during his summer internship, but I think he was very happy to trade in his suit and tie for shorts and flipflops and return to being a college student.
Halfway through our visit with Ben, Julianne flew off for her first visit to Texas to be a camp friend at the junior and senior camps. This was taken at the airport. It seems like we spent a lot of time telling her 'goodbye' over the summer. She was in and out a lot, but we just learned to enjoy being with her while she was 'in'.
For those of you who know (and love) Jason Longstreth, this last picture will make sense. After working with Eastside for 8 years, Jason and his family have moved to FL. He is now teaching Bible at Florida College. Each family made a quilt square for them, and one of our elders wives put it together as a going away gift. This was our square.
Luke and I went to the Chicagoland camp again. There were a couple of broken bones this year, but mostly lots of sunburns, bee stings and mosquito bites.
I was blessed to fly to Baltimore and help Ben drive back to FL last week. Except for so much rain, it was a very enjoyable trip. I stayed long enough to help him and Julianne get settled in, enjoyed seeing many friends from my past and came back very spirtually encouraged and uplifted.
Hahaha!!! Nice try. As much as you would like to have me there, my parents would miss me just that much more. But no worries. I think that I can safely promise a visit at some point this year!! Love you!!!!
Hello! Yes, she is going to come home at Thanksgiving AND October! She really wants to see the band and Sara march their show this year, so that will work out well. I'm sure she will be ready to get back to FC though. She is really loving it! Sara is doing pretty well. She sure misses her alot. School started yesterday, so that will help in keeping her busy! We are still working on getting her moved into Becca's room. We need to paint, etc before finally moving her in. Are Ben and Julianne going to get to come home at Thanksgiving? Washington DC is really neat, but I'm sure I wouldn't want to live there. We went last summer over the 4th. It was awesome! I mailed the shirt for Luke this morning. Hope he enjoys it!
Yes, we're home together this weekend for the first time, and a 3-day weekend at that. We got home late last Sun. night from Florida because of stopping to be with my aunt, if you didn't catch that already. We are going to Peoria after morning services tomorrow for the day to see my sister and her family who are visiting there.
I appreciate the prayers. Brandon made it to my sister's in Olive Branch, MS. He said he was tired. His normally 5 hour drive was 9 hours. He's a little worried he can't get back into his apartment. It's right on Lake Ponchatrain. Looks like the storm is going a little further west but that still puts them on the "bad" side. He covered things the best he could with plastic.
If you have more than 3 recipes to submit, just put other names on them. We want the FC kids represented. Thanks!
I never told you about Ben helping move Amanda and her roommates into their room. It was funny. The guys came to the van and Mike told them there were 3 cars behind us. We hurried to explain not all had Amanda's things. :) The girls rented a storage building last year and store a lot in it then we, along with 3 other families, went over and loaded everything. The guys kept bringing boxes into the room until one said, "every one who pulls up says 226. I'm just going to start bringing everything in here when I don't know where it goes".
Hi - this is Christa. Did you hear about Jacob (Diestelkamp)? He may have torn his MCL, ACL, and meniscus - just like his big sister...he has an MRI on Wednesday. Thought you might find that interesting! (Football practice...)
Hey! So, glad you'll get to be together for Thanksgiving! That is always wonderful! Oldrupert is the one who posts the pictures for camp. You can find him on Mark's friend's list, I'm sure. His name is Dwain Camp. We're spoiling ourselves and bringing Becca home for every break that we can! I don't know about the spring, but she'll be home for Oct and Thanksgiving and Christmas. Becca is sitting by Ben and Julianne in chapel! Julianne offered to save them seats! That was so sweet of her! Have a great week!
ah, yes! Becca is 6 hours short of being a sophomore when she went in, so I should have thought about that. She's taking 18 hours this semester, so that should push her over the top. Hope Julianne has a great birthday!
thank you for your kind words. By the way, your two oldest children are truly exceptional people! I mean it...most people are lucky if they meet one person their whole life like them. God bless you and your husband for all you have done/prayed/invested regarding your children. They are most exceptional!!!
Aren't sisters the best? Before the hurricane, I couldn't visualize us attempting to look out the windows, but we didn't have lightning or much rain, just high winds that twisted and bounced the trees. I felt pretty safe looking out.
and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot...." Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
For my family, I guess this is the season of change. Though I don't enjoy it, I try my best to embrace the moments that I have while I have them.
This was taken during our whirlwind trip to FL.
This was at the Young Musicians Reception on the day after we got back.
Today will be mostly devoted to helping Ben get loaded up to leave early tomorrow morning for Washington DC. He has an internship at the White House for the summer. I wasn't able to mention that until he made it through all of the investigative process. Thankfully, there was nothing to uncover.
Julianne will be in and out all summer working at various camps, housesitting and working here at the Boys and Girls Club. I'm just enjoying her while she's 'in'! She's been helping with the cooking this summer, and that has been very nice.
My husband and Luke are counting down the days until school is out for them. They are finally down to the single digits.
I'll end with another quote..........
"The brook would lose its song if God removed the rocks."
hello julianne's mom! i had to come over here to tell you that your beautiful daughter has touched my daughter's heart in so many ways. she has made a lasting impression on her. everytime i turn around she is saying "mom, julianne told me..." your daughter was so kind and so sweet to her (she was in her cabin at texas jr camp) and i can't tell you the happy, cute, sweet stories my daughter has shared with me. she wants so badly to contact her but is scared she is going to bug her. lol. i have a few more pics i will try to figure out how to share them with you.
I sent the email and it hasn't been returned! i think we might have a winner! i will try to find a way to get some better quality to you later, for now you can at least see them! thanks!!!!!!!
Hello! We met Julianne at Texas Junior camp last week and she's there this week again with our girls. She was just WONDERFUL with the kids and everyone. You should be proud of her. My husband Mark and I were counselors. Becca (a freshman at FC this fall!) was a junior counselor and Sara (16) helped in the kitchen. I'm sure they are having a great time this week with Julianne again. All the Friends were very good this year! My name is Dena Roberts.
Hello. I met your very precious daughter Julianne at jr camp this year. She touched me with her patience and loving heart. We had a very homesick camper who needed special attention almost all the time and Julianne was so wonderful and giving of herself to this young tiny camper. She also made a lasting impression on my 12 yr old girl and she has talked about her often since camp. Thank you for raising such a beautiful light!

hey - we met your daughter at Texas Camp (I'm marksdena's husband - she posted above). what Dena said is so true - your daughter was amazing. she did a superb job all week and had a great impact on camp and on Becca especially. you have much to be proud of!
I am another mom that was totally impressed with your daughter from Texas camp. I'm Anita Kirby, one of the directors at junior camp. We loved her and Christina both. Julianne made a wonderful impression on my daughter both at junior and then senior camp. She adores her. Julianne told me she thought we might have gone to school together. I was there 76-78, Castleman was my last name then. I grab that Royal Palm to check people out all the time! Again, thank you for raising such a sweet godly young woman. Good luck with your other sons intership.
yep, that was Becca at devotional. she told me all about being there and that Ben led it. she just called to say she made chorus so things are going very well for her! great to meet you and put a face with a name!
sweeeeeeeeeet! I posted to his pleo to see if he'd like to talk bluegrass. have him go here: www.wearBluegrass.com - that is my website. I got tired of bluegrass shirts that looked stupid so I designed my own. if he'll tell me what he wants - guitar or mandolin - I'll send him a shirt free. you can tell him he owes his sister for it -- she's been so nice to my girls!
That is so cool!!! Isn't it funny how we meet up again! I do remember you! That is so very neat that your daughter was instrumental in teaching Laural, we love that girl! Such a small world! Thank you for sharing that, I've got goosebumps!
