Hey, Colton. All is well in my part of the world. Thanks for asking. I hope you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving. Best wishes through the zaniness of the holidays!
You all are so impatient always wanting to know about my life. I'm not THAT exciting. I live rather peaceably. However, to ease your pain, here are the highlights.
- I am once again in the play. This one is called "Once Upon A Mattress". It's a musical based off the Princess and the Pea. I am the Minstrel which is kinda like the narrator.
- I took the ACT. I was disgusting. If I get a decent score, then I'm going to just leave it at that. I hated it. I will find out my score in a few weeks or so.
- I went to the Coterie Theater in the Crown Center and watched a play based on the people that surrounded Anne Frank. It was sad. It made me have a bit of sympathy for the young Nazi soldier. Email if you want details on that.
- I am about to go five weekends straight of Band Days. Yippee. No sleep...
- My dad and brother are in Africa right now preaching and I haven't talked to them for a week and a half. I almost cried on the way to school the other day over it. However, they will be back Wednesday. :D
- Since I got Sophomore Boy Citizen of the Year Award last year, I was asked to be a school ambassador this year for new students. Good times.
- A girl who is a senior at Fort Osage was baptized Sunday. I hope she keeps strong, she seems to have a very good heart. Pray for her please.
- I have gotten to finally start preaching a bit. I preached my first sermon last month on How to Become a Worker (Romans 12:1-9) and this month I preached on David: A Man of Repentance (Psalm 51, the lesson I taught at camp for those of you that came to that). I am now going to be preaching at the County Line church of Christ in St. Joseph, Missouri the first Sunday evening of each month.
ok, i haven't forgotten about you. I was gonna send out the cd's but found out that two of them didn't copy. :P so I have to re-do thoes. I will get them out ASAP. sorry it is taking me soo long.
I didn't accuse you of anything. I simply stated that while I understand your perspective, I don't hold the same view. I view your thoughts as interpretation, not hard and fast law. I also stated that because I think it is simply an interpretation, I don't think it is something that could be bound on someone else. That's it. I'm sorry you got the idea that I was accusing you. I was not. I just do not want to get into another IM discussion right now. I've been in so many recently, it seems like I'm banging my head against a wall. I don't even use IM where I assemble so don't feel like you need to "convince" me that I'm wrong in my thinking. I'm positive there will be another discussion where this topic comes up and we can have another chance to discuss. Just not right now. Thank you.
I will do my best to remember to tell Mr.Mallone you say hi. I still have not frogotten about you. I just need to redo thoes cd's that didn't work, and then I will send them to you. I am SO sorry it is taking me so long. And, yeah Charlie Brown is pretty awsome isn't he. : ) Did you have to wear a bald cap?
i know i didnt call you at school, but i forgot to take the cell when me and mom went into town for the day. so i'll talk to you later. btw, i got a haircut and its awesome! :)
A good friend of mine has just joined pleonast. His name is Patrick. You can find his blog here. Make him feel welcome! Have an awesome Labor Daybor. :D
Hey, you have a great Labor Day too! no not pros, just college, but all the same I Love the Mountianeers! That's so cool! Our church has a website, but we aren't sure how to update it. : ) I'll have to remember that if I am ever in the area!
That's amazing!!! : ) I'll do my best to. The preacher here at Glen Oaks (Alan Williamson) Said he will take me to Romania when I am 18, and that I could help evangilize!!! (in a godly way for a woman)I am SOOO happy!
So, we went to Minnesota for a week. We had a great time! We went to a whole lot of different places. Good times. Anyway, I missed all of you guys. If you get the chance, you should go to Minnesota. There are pics on Facebook if you guys want to see some. They are on Ashley's.
You all need to go to my sister's blog. She's got a whole bunch of quotes from last week. :)
In future news, I will be gone for the next two weeks starting Saturday. On Saturday I'm going to my English teacher's wedding (we were her favorite class, so she invited us). Then on Sunday, I will be heading to FC MO Camp! That will be awesome! Then the next Saturday I will be on my way to Oklahoma to go to Singing School. I haven't been in three years (give or take a few). It will be great to be able to go! In which case, if I don't see you at either camp or Singing School, I shall miss you dearly.
Hey Colton. Thank you for the little note you left on my page. I understand and can sympatize with your disappointment in some people from the church. I hope you always continue to look to God and never ower your standard. EVER! (by the way my name is Kaitlin and I am 13 from Morgantown WV.
that was the website that they gave for the church. I Love Country Roads! I went to a football game that my dad got free tickets for, and since we won the whole stadium sang country roads. It was pretty cool! ^_^
So for the past few years that I have been thinking about it, I had decided that I wanted to be a teacher. But not just any teacher, but a high school American History teacher. Just ask anyone that gets to spend more time around me. They'll tell you I love American History. Then I would work to get my Master's and teacher college American History, where they actually care about history.
Anyway, so I have been working to get my A+ hours, if I decide to go down that road. In those hours, you have to do a lot of tutoring. So I have been tutoring at the Primary Building for second graders. I usually only went for half an hour, but I finally got the chance to stay for a whole hour. It was great! The kids were excited that I was there, and I was excited to be able to help them more in depth. So last Friday, I stay for two and a half hours helping the kids with there Track & Field Day. It was a lot of fun.
So the point of all of that was to say this. I read an article that talked of male elementary school teachers. The country is begging for them. In our society now, most kids never have a father figure in there life. And you can see where the outcome of that could lead. So I have been thinking that maybe I could go into elementary education. The kids at that age are still excited about being in school and that's why I wanted to teach college. Later down the road I'll still try to teach history, but I can have a big effect on those kids when they don't have a father to turn to.
Colton, Revelation talks about not adding or subtracting to the words of "this book." That is, the message of Revelation is not to be distorted. It doesn't mean you can't at the 26 other books in the cannon.
As for the will, you are still not getting the application. I agree that if the will had said "give all the money to the grand kids education" that this would obviously be exclusive. But if it says "Use money from the inheritance to fund the kid's education," the question is left open as to what to do with the rest. This would remain true whether or not the guy died. Inclusive commands don't become exclusive.
You have no biblical reason or passage for insisting that once the 27 books were collected the previously inclusive commands have now become exclusive of other things.
For instance, the command to "visit orphans and widows in their distress" for Christians was not intended to mean you can't visit other people in their distress. Its an inclusive command. But that doesn't mean that after the canon was finished that suddenly the command became exclusive such that you could no longer visit anyone else in their distress besides orphans and widows. See what I mean? If a command is inclusive, its inclusive. Nobody should try to change or alter one of God's inclusive commands to suddenly be exclusive. Right?
Hi Colton. I think we have a misunderstanding and I think that your idea about a phone call is a good one. My phone is dead and I'm afraid I've left my charger in another state. But I think I could call perhaps this Saturday if that is okay. If you would like to email me your phone number, my email is joshuabrainard at gmail dot com. Thanks.
If its okay with you, since the point of the new post will be to accomdate your mutually shared doubts about "inclusive" commands in Scripture, I will include what I was going to email you in the forthcoming post.
Hi Bro. I'm glad the trip went well. Good to hear. The more I think about how to best explain the principles I'm thinking of the further back into hermeneutics in general I plunge and find it nearly impossible to try to write about with any sort of brevity. I'm thinking about it, but it is taking longer than expected. Thanks for your patience.
