Hello Ryan, I'll be glad to help if I can. I did some mapquesting and consulted with my dad, who knows a little more about housing costs and such. There are several congregations within 45 minutes or so of Des Plaines. Glen Ellyn is 35 minutes/24 miles SW, Berwyn is 30 minutes/21 miles S, and Elgin is 35 minutes/23 miles W. However, those will all be more in Chicago and traffic and housing costs will be worse around there. Palatine is 20 minutes/11 miles NW and Round Lake Beach (where I attend) is 45-50 minutes/35 miles North. (I don't have the addresses of the congregations just off hand, but I can check at the building on Sunday and get them for you if you wish. The times and distances will probably vary depending on where in Des Plaines you are and where the church buildings are located, but that'll give you a general idea.) Housing costs/more house for your money are better the farther north, north/west you go, away from Chicago. (We have had a number of past and current members here who lived up here but commuted into the city to work.) Safety in general is going to be better the further from the city you are as well. All things considered, Palatine or Round Lake Beach might be your best bets.
Palatine is extremely small and does not have a full-time preacher. I'm not sure if they have any young people there anymore. My cousins attended there when they lived up here, but since they moved away I haven't heard much on how the group there is doing now, excepting that they still don't have a preacher. RLB, where my family attends, is also small (about 35 members now). David Pratte preaches for us, and I guess we have four highschool/college-age young people here on a regular basis. (5 more that come occasionally.) I can give you the address for here...1132 Hainesville Rd. Round Lake Beach, IL 60073 and Wednesday evening class is at 7:30.
My parents said to please feel free to join our family for supper on Wednesday evening (we live less than 10 minutes from the building). If you need directions, have any other questions, or need anything else, please feel free to email me at onelittlecandle00@yahoo.com and I'll help as best I can. Good luck with your interview and safe travels! I think it's supposed to be a little more mild the next few days, so your timing is good. :) God bless!
Awww no, I'm sure I didn't catch my cold from you. Shelley had it first and nearly all my coworkers did as well, so I mostly likely got it from them. No worries! :)
Awesome news! We are all glad. I hope the move goes smoothly, and if you need anything, please let us know and we'll be glad to help however we can. :)
My name is Danielle Butler, I attend at Pruett and Lobit Streets Church of Christ...Where do you attend?...Do you mind if I add you to my friends list?
Ryan Miller? Hey, friend! I did not know that you were on here! This is Heidi Wickersheim, by the way. I hope that you are doing well and that you have a great daya!
I really like school. I'm taking 18 hrs in both the fall and spring to graduate on time. I don't work full-time though, I have a part-time job. I'm also in 4 clubs/activities on campus, so I stay quite busy. But I LOVE it! I'd rather go to school and work a part-time job than work full-time. :)
I went to IUPUI to tour campus and meet with the department I'm interested in. However, if I decide to attend there, I wouldn't mind chatting with this person to get "insider" information.
Hello Ryan. I do remember you and hope you are well. The Belchers are in TN at the Expressway Church Of Christ. We hated to see them go. They took the opportunity to be closer to their parents. It was actually planned for later on, but the opportunity come up for this work and they took it. If you want their contact information you can email me privately at davros5@yahoo.com We miss the Belchers very much. Hope things are going in a positive manner for you.
