Would you want to have the joy of being pleasantly surprised if you and your spouse were expecting for the first time, since life has so few really great surprises anyway.....
or,
Would you want to ruin all the fun and anticipation by finding out your first born's gender in advance?
Remember state your honest opinion...(if it agrees with mine ;) j/k
BTW-Due date is around June 14ish. Lord willing, mom will be armed with lots of pictures to show off at the 2nd camp!
We knew with two for certain (Jonathan and Josh). We had a hunch with the three oldest girls because...ahhh...hope this is not TMI...Jonathan worked with radiation in the Air Force--all the babies born to the guys that worked on the flight line with him were girls! We had no idea with #5 (Julia)...our first baby born in a non-military situation...we were paying cash, so no ultrasound. I missed knowing and had to get all the little clothes ready for either way. True, it was a thrill to find out on the spot. Yet, I don't think we anticipated it any more not knowing the gender...
I guess since we found out with Josh, that says a lot, huh? Knowing is fun. I like calling the baby by their name for the last few months :)
The first time we chose not to know. The second time we chose to be prepared. That worked for us, because I really wanted a boy the second time and I just couldn't wait!
personally I would want to know because I'm a planner and I think it would drive me nuts not being able to buy the clothes and stuff, but I can totally see why you wouldn't wanna know. It would be way cute to have your family anticipating it in the waiting room and Seth gets to come out and say "It's a BOY or GIRL!" I'm really excited for y'all!
First of all this is awesome!!! Congadulations! To answer your question I will want to know personally I couldn't handle the suspense! Katie wants to be suprised. so exciting!!
The technology is there that our tax dollars go toward research etc... so why not? Also, finding out is not 100% guarentee that you will have what they say. Trust me on this... buying up things each month along the way is better than waiting and not having what you need! You can start the baby book...there's lots of pages in there for the "right now" times... and you can mull names over in your head too! Seeing that you teach...several will be no go's so you might need more time in deciding! Ha! Ha! I never was surprised but maybe you might want to ask your sister about the surprised part! I had rather know so at showers everyone can get you lots and lots of girl stuff....oh I mean boy stuff too! Are you sick any yet?
Congrats...I am glad we found out just for the sake of I couldn't wait that long to know. That and I wanted to confirm to others what I already knew. A real man produces a man-child.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Found out with all of ours---my opinion is that it is as much of a surprise at the U/S as it would be at birth ;>) It does make it so much easier to get things ready. So happy for you !!!
When we thought there was one baby, we had decided to let it be a surprise...then we found out that #2 was in there as well and we decided that we needed to find out and be prepared. I think that you have a "surprise" moment either way, whether it is in the ultrasound room or the delivery room. I enjoyed knowing and being able to get ready...but I'm a planner. One good point for not knowing is that people will give you more "gender neutral" clothes and other stuff in colors that could be used not only for this baby, but for the ones you'll have down the road, regardless of whether they are boys or girls.
One more thing...we told everyone what the babies would be, but we didn't share their names with anyone until they were born. I think that was a fun surprise for our friends and families...although they might tell you that it drove them nuts!
Your number 3 (below) just told me how SPECIAL I am to you!! ;)
Regarding your poll above: There are advantages to both approaches. I like the point on one comment above that you do get your moment of surprise one way or the other (at the birth or the ultrasound). The anticipation at the birth of "IT's a BOY!" or "It's a GIRL!" is pretty cool, though... It's great to know what to buy... It's also great to have a name to call them... Several things to think about.. But, IMHO, the best advice you received was to do what YOU and SETH want to do, despite all the advice you get from others...It's your baby...your decision! Enjoy these precious preparatory months... Love you!
Congrats!! I am so excited for you both!! If it were me I would find out so you are more prepared with clothes and decorating the baby's room etc. However it does sound kinda excititing to find that out when the little one gets here!! I'm too impatient so I'd have to find out!! Good luck with everything and let us know when a shower is I would like to send a gift!!!
I like to find out as soon as possible and get used to the idea and feel like I'm getting to know the little one. Matthew votes wait and be surprised. Haha, we see who won that one when we were expecting. :)
Thanks and WOW! Congratulations to you too!!! Um, I would ruin the surprise and find out ahead of time. That way all the clothes you get at your baby shower won't look gender neutral.:) Seriously, you can get prepared in your mind for what you are going to have and you can be pleasantly surprised on the day of the ultrasound... ;)
come on, showing off on a trampoline isn't dangerous! the worst thing that can happen is you land on your head while trying to do a frontflip! (I have experience with this)
saw the family on Sat.... did they not know or were they commanded not to say anything? in teh words of chicken foot....you, aw, wellllllll... Jonathan will have to do the impression for you on Turkey day! Congrats! Boy, you just thought teaching a classroom of 25 kids was scarry! JK It will be great! Ignore everyone's advice and do your own thing! Love you!
Okay, so pictures will follow this blog. I know you're dissappointed but don't worry, Seth will come to the rescue!
We went to Seviereville, TN (near Gatlinburg) and stayed in an enormous 7 bedroom cabin that was absolutely wonderful.
Cabin Highlights:
1st floor- GAMES, GAMES, GAMES
Pool table, Foosball, and Ping Pong table
There was also a small kitchen, in case you needed a quick refreshment before playing another round.
Best thing about the first floor- 6 person hot tub...until you throw 5 kids in that have more knees and elbows than they know what to do with ;)
2nd Floor (Main floor)
Beautiful wrap around porch, great for grandkids to run and ride around on as well as a huge living room to play board games in or watch TV--we did both
3rd floor-
This is where all mom's kids and kids in law stayed.
Favorite thing on this floor-we didn't even have to leave our room to talk to the person in the room next to us. This we found out when Erin repeated mine and Seth's morning bathroom conversation. LOL!
I am so thankful for family but especially family that knows what is important and strives to keep it that way. I felt so rejuvenated when we returned and I'm so glad we were able to go.
Favorite Funny:
Isaac singing 5 little monkeys:
"One fell off and broke his neck"
I asked April if that was her threat to get him to quit jumping on his bed.
Coming in a close 2nd:
Anna singing You are my sunshine over and over and over. The most precious thing, and it never got old. I hope someone video taped it so that I can post it and you could adimently agree with me.
Erin recorded it Thursday night. She was really in rare form. She performed several songs for the camera. (There is however, a ping-pong game going on in the background.)
Ok, don't know where you found such loyalty but the love that your family has for you is astounding...especially when they are willing to sit mindlessly and attempt to put together a puzzle of stary night at granny's house! Poor Verna, While we were there, she sat for at least 2-3 hours that I saw and got maybe one or two pices to fit! It amazes me what your family will do for one another! I love you but refused to get sucked into the insanity! That puzzle is just that...insanity! I would have mailed it back to you and said..Good Luck! Make sure you give Mega Kudos to any and all who dared touch the thing! :)HA!HA!
Okay, just a quick funny because I'm too tired to think of anything else to post about.
Seth and I are visiting with family this weekend and we are trying to squeeze in everything under the sun while we can.
Anyway, mom told us that Emma (my brother's oldest daughter) informed her that the dining room color was "too bold" Mom asked if she didn't like the color. Emma replied that she liked it very much, but that if mom ever planned to sell the house, she would have to change the color because it was too bold.
Emma is 4 and her mom thinks she might be watching a little too much HGTV ;)
I love my family and I'm so glad to spend every extra second I can with them.
Mrs. M~
(how many think I should start going by the alias, M&M?)
ps Lots of prayers continue to go out for the family of Gary Dickerson. He was such an incredible example and I hope that his family will find comfort in the God that he served.
Summer, Dawn Webb here. Are you talking about the Gary Dickerson who lived in Mississippi? I remember there was a man by this name the couple of years I went to camp in high school. Please let me know.
I began my morning a little selfishly by sleeping in for an extra 30 min.
I was not looking forward to working on my b-day but that happens when it is on a weekday. Just as I was about to walk out the door and head to work when I heard, "Happy Birthday!"--Seth had come back to the house to wish me a happy birthday in person before I went off to work, that made me so very happy and sad that I had to leave him on my birthday!
At school I was flooded by Happy Birthday wishes from the students. The kids had made really sweet cards and signs that I posted on my display case. 1st grade sang to me when I came to the cafeteria. It was a very pleasant work/birthday.
Oh, and my mom wished me a very happy birthday, then told me she would celebrate by sleeping in some more for me! The woman does so much, I can't even begin to keep up.
I recieved many well wishes through out the day. I think my student's favorite was when my nephew Caleb called to sing to me...precious!
Lastly, Seth and I went to Provino's for supper and now have lunch for the next two days, and his parents called and sang to me, which was wonderful!
Thanks to everyone who called, texted, hugged, and sang! It was a most wonderful day!
