Since I was on here last, Bill had to have open heart surgery. He went to his regular doctor's visits and flunked his treadmill test. They sent him for a heart catheterization and he flunked that also. The doctor said "I don't know how you are alive, all your major arteries are 90% BLOCKED". We had a few minutes to decide what to do and we ok'd it for an ambulance to take him to Audubon Hospital where they performed the surgery.
I called Leah, my oldest daughter and she was shocked and then said, "Mom, I'm just now on the way to the doctor's myself, I think I am having a miscarriage."I felt pulled but knew I should be with Bill, this was Major surgery! Leah was with Pam, her mother in law, so that helped.
well when Bill and I got to the hospital everything was handled so well. Sarah and I went into the waiting room and it soon became filled with many of our friends. It seems that even though Leah was going through so much , she had called people to let them know. That was something I didn't asked her to do, I only asked her to tell her brothers before I knew about her own emergency.Tony and Eric showed up in Louisville before the operation was over. We have the best children and we are blessed by them in so many ways.
The surgery went fine and Bill is healing up with cardio-therapy and a small amount of medicine that he is slowly being weaned from. he is now back to work but with short days. His chest hurts sometimes mainly from the sternum healing. He has even cut the grass! Earlier on Steve Gwin cut it for him as well as our boys and Sarah.
I was supposed to start my new job the day after Bill's surgery but was able to wait for a week or so afterward. I am now the afternoon nurse at Eden Terrace, a senior community. I am the head nurse on the afternoon shift in the Reminiscence Community which is the living community for the Alzheimer residents.
My job is to give them their medicines and evaluate them on a daily basis and handle any type of incident that arises. Sometimes this means divert them when they get anxiety, keep them from running away ( our doors are locked/alarmed but they(residents) are tricky!), and transfer them out by ambulance if they are sick/injured/need psych evaluations.
The most common occurrence is falls because it is illegal to restrain them in any way so they are almost legally "allowed" to fall. This is sad because when we are short staffed the thought of someone being hurt is always looming in my head.
We really need more nurses and caregivers and they are looking for help if anyone in the Louisville area is interested.Maybe I can get Sarah interested in this but it will have to wait until June 25th when she comes back from Morehead University. That's another story!
Hope you are all well.
take care,
Sharon
:)
oh! Leah is just fine and will find out in 5 days if the baby is a girl or boy. I think she was spotting and had pain from her ligaments adjusting. With Bill going into surgery I still felt i should tell him so we could say a prayer for Leah. Here Bill was having major surgery and I could not keep my mouth quiet about Leah, but i just felt Bill should know. Silly me,with all he had to go through, I told him about Leah while he was on the cart. He asked if I talked to the kids and if they were coming. Leah was able to make it before the surgery was over also.
What a time you've had! So glad Bill is recovering well and that Leah's scare was just that! You sound perfect for your job! There certainly is a shortage of caregivers in this "me" age! (Plus it's intensive training and lots of hard work!) Hope you're keeping up with your health as well!
I knew you had been going through an awful lot. How is your blood pressure. Yes I read Sarah's blog and know about it. I am assuming it is down some. I'm thankful I am able to do what I can to stay healthy. I had tests done yesterday on my parathroid so I probably will be having surgery in the near future because that is the only way to treat the problem. It's relative simple surgery if your well trained in it and I have faith in this Dr. so far. He teaches at U of L plus his practice. He specializes in the parathroid. Is this your first grandchild? You have a good family at home and at church. Steven Gwin went to Michigan to school when we lived up there and was at our house alot. He is a very good man.
Thanks for stopping by, Mrs. P! Yeah, things are very good for me right now! I am grateful God has seen fit to bless me. I hope all of you are well! I miss your family very much!
Sharon, It was great to read your update! I'm glad Bill is doing well and that things are progressing for Leah and baby. Kayla will be a great little sister!
You seem to like your job, and that's good. I've thought about working w/elderly people. But right now I'm enjoying being at home.
Come see us sometime!
Wow, you guys have had a lot going on. I'm glad that you are all doing so well! I've only met you once, but I know you are a special family and I'm so glad you are o.k.
Wow! What a time you all have had! I am so glad that Bill found out in time about his heart and that Leah turned out to be fine as well. God's been watching over you! It sounds like you have a very demanding job with a lot of important responsibility! The residents of an Alzheimer's ward are a big challenge, I know, but those of us who have had relatives who have had to go into those places thank people like you who love them through their darkest hours. I am glad to hear your crew is all safe and happy. Jen is coming to stay with us for a while, if she can stand all the craziness of this big family! It's good to hear from you. Hope you have time to blog more often! Thanks for stopping by and saying hello!
Changes can be exciting and invigorating once you get past the hesitation and fear of the unknown.
I now hold a temporary Kentucky Nursing License until my fingerprint card gets processed by the FBI. It is good for 6 mos but I should hear back from the Board of Nursing within a few weeks with a new permanent License.
Today I called a couple Care management facilities in order to get the employment ball rolling. Tomorrow I pick up the applications and hand them back in with my resume and await interviews. If there is no action in a week I will repeat the process with the continued list of prospective employers.
There are 8 hour 1st 2nd and 3rd shifts, 12 hour shifts, part time/full time/prn(when needed) choices. I think Bill wants me to work as much as possible so I will try to work when he and Sarah are out doing their thing or sleeping.
This might mean midnights or the 7 am -7pm shift or the 7pm to 7 am shift.
I had 20 years of rest (haha), now it's time to contribute to the coffers.
Next time I can get on I need to visit all of your blogs!
Good for you. I know it's been a long haul bur well worth it. I don't imagine you'll have a hard time finding work. 20 years of rest my eye ball. 20 years of hard work. Think of this as your second profession.
this is great new mom! keep me updated. as a mom, youve had to work the 24 hour shift for a long time. so you could put stamina on your qualifications for the resume.
Wow! I really admire your determination and the things you have gone through to get your license! Hope the work will be rewarding for you in more ways than you can count! Say hello to all your gang for me! Daniel is doing well, but he is so tired with a heavy load this semester (19 hours!) I don't think he plans to try that again for a while. He got the happy news today that he is being inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Sunday afternoon! It is nice to get some good things for all that hard work.
Keep us updated on how things go! I might do something rad like make a life-change too. Perhaps counseling or something. That's what I've been thinking about lately, anyway.
youre more than a new number, youre a new and improved momcha! we'll see you tomorrow; sorry i didn't get to talk to you yesterday, was feeling miserably wretched
There is a Constitution Party meeting the second Sat. of the month in Lexington. I am attempting to get a group to attend, any interest from your family?
hi momcha. i got the voice mail. i will most likely be visiting in about two weeks so i can get the book when i come. i don't know why they decided to send it to you; i was pretty sure i had the adress for old manse on the form; its alright tho, i dont need it till then. how is your vision now?
You have the same birthday as my new birthday is going to be! (I am trading birthdays with my wife -- kind of long story.) Anyway, happy birthday, even if it is what, 4 and a half months late?
