Well now, you should be impressed...two posts in as many days :)
Today around lunch my middle child came running into the room (interrupting a discussion with his older brother about how we should treat our younger siblings....saved by the yell!), to tell me that his floor was wet in his room. What?!?! You guessed it....the hot water tank sprung a leak from the pipe going into it. Thankfully, Doug was able to come home early and help wage the war against the water :) We borrowed a shop vac from a fellow church member, and are in the process of hoping we got it cleaned up soon enough! We've got fans blowing and many toys to reorganize now. It flooded the enter room and closet (the utility room, with the water heater, a/c unit and electric box is in a room behind their closet). I figure since I have to clean the carpet and had to take everything out, now is the perfect time to get rid of the old toys and clean things out really well. I may even paint the wall while I'm at it :) Hope your night is better than mine!

...apparently SOME people think I'm being lazy and not updating enough :) So HERE IT IS...life in the exciting town of LaRue.
Well, lets (let's?) see. For Halloween, we skipped the house to house thing...you know...being that you couldn't really say there are houses in our neighborhood...population, um...I'm guessing 50, lol. Seriously...4 houses down to the right, and you're in New York, a couple of turns to the left and you're heading into Poyner. Our town consists of 1 teeny tiny post office and a community center (the size of a large storage unit with no apparent purpose). Its sad.
So...back to my story. On the 30th, we decide to take the kids to the Fish Hatchery for their Halloween party. Not bad...but it took nearly 2 hours to walk all the way around to all the stands giving out a piece or two of candy each, lol. The kids enjoyed it though. On the 31st, our friends invited us to their house for dinner. They were leaving for 3 months the following Monday, so it was our last chance to visit. They're great people, we miss them (and their new baby) already.
Other than that, I've been running around like a chicken with my head chopped off. There's school work for me (taking C++ this term) which is way harder than I anticipated. Then of course, homeschooling, which is great, but has its difficulties this year. For one, since we moved to a mere speck on the map, there is no decent library we can check out books from. Silly me, I chose a literature based curriculum, and our library had exactly 5 of the books I needed for Doug and Daniel's work. 5! That's just sad. Seriously.
Co-op is...well, I think I must be feeling like other co-op folks. I dread the upcoming day all throughout the weekend when I think of the preparation for getting everyone ready and there on time (not to mention getting up at 6:30am), but they enjoy it so much when they are there, I don't have the heart to say no if they want to continue next year.
In other news...my dryer finally kicked the bucket. It was a really old one anyhow, but now...well, lets just say it makes noise, but nothing actually happens in there. So, I've been having to hang the clothes out to dry temporarily. Now I know some people love the "smell of clothes dried in the sunshine". I'm not one of those people though. I want SOFT, WARM, and artificially SCENTED clothes that I don't have to freeze my toes off to go get. My DH will be needing to get me another one soon, I can't take anymore! I realize this may sound rather spoiled. Don't get me wrong, my Mom hung out clothes to dry plenty of times, but she never had us hang them or bring them in (she probably should have, lol), and I understand that electric dryers are luxuries rather than necessities. I am a firm believer in climate control, however, and I don't have to like it, lol. I like to enjoy seeing all the beautiful things God created from a heated living room in the winter :)
I should've already asked you, but I didn't think about it until just now. Would you like to go to our Ladies' Retreat? It is tomorrow night at the pine creek lodge (or something like that) near Nacogdoches.
I won't be there this time. They are going up early to spent time with the grandparents, and Steve & I will come on Thursday. Since Steve preaches, we don't get away on Sundays very often.
Today was the six-week mark for Hearts In Bloom (co-op), and so we had a presentation day where students and classes showed something they had learned over the last 6 weeks or some other talent they have, and then we went SKATING! We had a great time. We haven't gone skating since we left Lufkin, and Daniel has been begging to get to go, since he was too small to be able to skate last time we went. Doug and Daniel both did fantastic. It amazes me to see how things can come so easily to them sometimes! Branden really enjoyed it too, although most of the kids his age weren't able to make it this time to skate day.
Be sure to let me tune before he has to play it. I sure wish he was still able to play with us. We're playing Raiders of the Lost Ark this year. It sounds really neat.
We used to go skating with our homeschool group--that was fun! Then we moved to our small town (no skating rink) so did bowling instead. It's not the same, though....
I feel like I should know who you are considering I know alot of the people that have commented on your blog, and since you're from Lufkin. I'm Alex Jones
I'm already wishing I had bought a piece of fabric while there. I almost bought it but couldn't make up my mind. Now that it's 1 1/2 hours away, I want it. It was even on sale.
There's not really anything new going on to write about, just thought it was time to update my blog :)
Well, my middle child has an infected lymph node. It's finally getting better, but we spent several days taking trip to the doctor, and having Doug's parents come up to help out with the kids. No idea what started it, it just came up one morning and a week later, it's finally getting better. As if that weren't enough, Doug has his first loose tooth. The thoughts of his baby brother on the subject "(insert pouty face and whiney voice here)I never get to have a loose tooth..." lol
It's cooling off a bit around here lately...Fall has finally arrived.
That's about it over here. Now I better get back to Science with Branden :) Have a good weekend!
"Eight Random Things About Me That You Could Have Lived The Rest Of Your Life Without Knowing..."
#1 -- I absolutely HATE touching things that will dry my hands out
#2 -- I have NO sense of direction...it's sad...really.
#3 -- I pay an insane amount of money for Dishnetwork to watch ONE TV show
#4 -- I don't like to touch wet towels or washclothes after they've sat anywhere (over the towel rack, on the kitchen sink). I don't know why, I'm weird that way.
#5 -- I've lived in 7 different states, and gone to 15 different schools
#6 -- I have the same middle name as my Mom
#7 -- Between my parents, sisters, and brother, we occupy 6 different states
#8 -- My dream job is pathophysiology. Gross, I know. What can I say...I was exposed to health occupations classes early in life :)
Well, I've already done it twice, so I don't think I'll do it again! :) Were you a military brat? I was an Army brat and lived in 8 different states by the time I was 11, but fortunately I didn't have to go to 15 schools--yikes! (And I have the same middle name as my mom, too--Grace. What's yours?)
