I had 5 glorious days away and now have caught up with laundry and all...back to my routine...it is always good to be back home no matter how much fun was had.

Hope everyone else had a great Turkey Day!!

Starting on the left is my father-in-law, my mother, our daughter...on the right is my husband, myself, and my mother-in-law...thanks dear for posting this for me.
dshWish you knew how to post pictures, too! Would love to see your family on the yacht. Routines are very nice. :)
kimberlyharbaughSign up with photobucket, down load the picture, then right click copy on the embed of the picture and then paste it here. It's not too hard, I promise,I mean, I did it.
hmjmomSounds great. Time away is good, but there is no place like home.
didowThat's a great picture. Posting them isn't all that hard. You just need a 15 year old boy around the house to teach you how.
lydiasmotherWell look at you all, you look great and Brian looks like his old self!!!! Thanks for sharing.
sparkle_motionwow you all look so good!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!! 11-26-08 08:22am CST
So we are packing, finishing some work, and heading out around 11 for Branson. My in-laws, my mother, our daughter, and Brian and I will all be together. We are going sailing on a yacht on Thursday where we will enjoy a Thanksgiving feast with around 50-100 other people. I am so looking forward to it. While most will come back on Friday, Brian and I are planning on staying through the weekend to celebrate our 27th anniversary that somehow we just didn't "get around to" celebrating in October when it was!! LOL

Going to several shows while there and hopefully get to do some good Christmas shopping at all the outlet malls up there.

Everybody ENJOY!!
be_with_me_lordI know it will be a great time, enjoy!
bonnielassHope you all have a great time! Enjoy!
hmjmomHappy T-day. Have fun.
quincysmomHave fun!
dshHave a great time! The yacht sounds like a lot of fun!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Bizarre... 11-20-08 08:01am CST
I just put something in the microwave and set the timer for 1-1/2 minutes. I left and went in the office to check e-mail...after about 4-5 minutes I started smelling something burning. I went back out to the kitchen and even though the "timer" went off the microwave did not shut off. I kept pressing "off" and it still would not shut off. By now smoke was billowing out and stinking up the whole house. I woke Brian up and told him I was afraid our microwave was going to blow up!! He came out and pushed the "open door" button. When he did that it did shut off, but smoke was billowing out and now the whole house smells.

Anyone else have this happen to them? I am kind of afraid to try to use the microwave again. Is it leaking out radioactive waste now or what? BTW, it is only 2 years old.
fauxbelleWow...I'd buy a new micro if that happened to me. When we bought our current house, the micro was the cheapest I'd seen. We have not replaced it as of yet, but I'm afraid of it every time I use it.
kimberlyharbaughYikes! Ours is chipped inside, we have put appliance paint on it but it does not stay, so I keep putting masking tape on it. The masing tape burns and then there are sparks, I am waiting for it to blow up.
sparkle_motionhahahahahaaaaaaa!!!!!!! why didnt you unplug it or open the door? LOL thats great
sparkle_motionat FC we put a cd in the microwave... it makes a cool lil show before the smoke and smell kick in
dshNo, never had that happen. Sounds scary!
aletaI'd say this microwave is done, and even if they don't honor a warranty, report it. I've never had that happen!
lydiasmotherK guess you need to go shopping!!!!! The open door button does wonders but I am not so sure I would of pushed it afraid of what might come out!!!! Light some candles to eat up that smell or maybe your house needed a good airing out? open the doors and windows stink up the whole block!!!! LOL at least you are ok could of been horrible and it wasn't so for that I am thankful!
yogibearHey sparkle - it was in the wall - no way to unplug it :)

it seems fine now - heated up some coffee - worked like a charm.

is a high end appliance - but still may report it to the safety commission
be_with_me_lordscary
rdockensHow Bizarre!
quincysmomThat is scarey.
hmjmomI never heard of that, but it would be really scary. I hope you can get the house aired out.
kittyhawkBetter to be safe than sorry in this. Get a new microwave & then you won't have to worry at all!!
bonnielassHis name is Trax
bonnielassLarry actually thought of it, and I liked the name as well, he's very playful, so the name fits him

Caring for parents... 11-19-08 08:01am CST
Does anyone else out there "struggle" with this? My mother who has always lived close by is struggling with depression and has since my father died over 5 years ago now. She is not the same person I used to know. She is 79 and actually does well physically, but because of her depression thinks she will be dying "tomorrow". At one time she was a bubbly, independent woman with many friends. She has turned into a very critical, "woe-is-me" kind of person who clings to my every move and someone that many people don't want to be around. I am trying sooo hard to be understanding, but what do you do when someone doesn't seem to want help?

Now, my in-laws who recently moved here (around 6 months ago) to be close by are having struggles with health. My mother-in-law is having cataract surgery this morning as I type this. But the biggest struggle is that she found out yesterday that she indeed needs to have her hips and knees replaced. They will start with her right hip. She has needed to do something for so long, but she is a tad bit stubborn and would not hear of it. Well, Sunday she literally had to be "carried" out of church when we stood up to sing the song before the lesson, so I think she realized if she doesn't do something soon, she will end up in a wheelchair.

Such is life...we raise our kids from youngins into teens and then into independence...then it seems some of us get to start all over again...this time with our elderly parents.

If you all would, could you please say a prayer for our family, both for the aging parents with their struggles and for my family as we "deal" with all of this.
kimberlyharbaughBoy, that is tough. Did your mom ever go to see anyone about her depression? I know that it sure helped my mom and she stays on a light dose that helps her keep her spirits up and as you know does great. I hope all goes well with Marie too and pray for you all as you deal with all of this.
aletaYou raised your youngins with love and are now teaching them how to someday take care of you. I think of this often. I pray God can help you carry the trials through.
lydiasmotherThinking of you, and have a slight understanding of this and know that over the next years I will know more. I love taking care of older ppl but sometimes it can be stressful. I cannot imagine what they think when they get older knowing that thier time is drawing nearer. Children learn from example on how to treat/love/care for aged parents from thier parents. Depression is something that can physically take a person. It is tough to deal with thier child like behavior at times too, but you just have to continue and deal with it in a kind way to let her/them know that you still care and love them. My grandmother was kinda like this and she would get angry at me and my father and would raise her hand to strike us, this is really commen. I hate to see them get older and become more child like as they get older. Just bare with it and will pray for you to have the strength and comfort to see them through these days ahead.
jkmramyes, I will pray for you.

Your mom just sounds like she is stuck in the grief process. What really helped me through it was Griefshare, a group that gets together and learns about what is normal (we all thought we were crazy); and as we learned, we became each other's support group. It helps immensely. You should be able to find a group near you at:

www.griefshare.org

I would also take her to a doc about her depression. It sounds like she needs some help.

((((♥))))
be_with_me_lordI"m sorry, I know it is a hard time. I'm thankful my mom stayed very busy after my dad died. She has gone through a few periods of not being herself but thankfully bounced back. She has friends she regularly goes to lunch with and people she calls every day and many at home projects and it keeps her mental state up.

Weekend 11-14-08 03:55pm CST
I had lunch with a Christian friend today...I needed that. Dinner tonight will be at the condo assoc that my in-laws belong to...it is a Thanksgiving dinner...and I don't have to bring anything...yummy. Bathrooms are still being painted...I think I am going to like the colors afterall (jury is still out).

Wanting to go down to Conway tomorrow so Brian can try out for Wheel of Fortune...but at this point I am not sure we are going to make it....we had one of our subcontractors quit on us suddenly after 7+ years. It sure makes things hard right now at the holiday time when everyone else is wanting to take off...and of course who gets the "extra" work....YOURS TRULY!!

EVERYONE have a GREAT weekend.
kimberlyharbaughI am going to the Cheese Cake Factory tonight, YUM! Have fun!
be_with_me_lordOn the flip side, be thankful you have the work :) Have fun at your dinner.
aletaThose condo gatherings are always nice. And what color is the bathroom being painted? (sorry if I missed that)
dsh^ I'd like to know the colors, too.

Brian on Wheel of Fortune? That would be fun!
kimberlyharbaughThanks! I should be able to get back on tomorrow to let you know.
