I am thankful for.... 11-28-08 10:59am EST
The fact that Andy was not hurt in a wreck on Monday. It was a rainy, foggy, Monday morning and Andy was on the way to the doctor. Yep!, a recipe for disaster. The impact of the wreck has caused enough damage to our front end that the Darango was totaled. When I got home we got Andy to the doctor and he is fine, just bronchitis.

Doctors that can help.Mom fell out of bed the other day and may have damaged her knee replacement. She is having a bone scan next week. Hopefull she will not need more surgery.

Children that clean. While sweeping the floor. One of my little darlings clogged the vacum cleaner. Andy got it fixed but there were tense momments.

What was I saying about a slow week???????
travelingirlYes, glad that Andy is fine - Durango's are tough vehicles and will protect you well. Hope is feeling better soon. Hopefully your mom's knee replacement is okay.

One day at a time - because each day has enough problems (stress) of it's own.
travelingirlWell, I got mini sd cards for my girls' phones for 6.99 and a 2 GB flashdrive for 6.99 too. Just a few little things, but it's what I wanted to get.
As my girls have gotten older, the majority of what they get is money - cuz then they go shopping for clothes (the 2 older ones especially). They get some gifts, their stockings. This year my older 2 where up for renewal on their phones so we waited a week for black friday & they got their phones 1/2 of what they were going to be. Of course that's part of their christmas gifts. Saved me money in the long run though.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. We have so much to be thankful for this year. We are loving mom and dad being down here. I am not sure how we made it before they arrived.

Made it. 11-19-08 05:58pm EST
Well the lord was definately with me. I only had one no show and 2 crying parents. One parent bought flashcards on the way home from the conference.

Conferences for my personal children went well.

A slow week.
lovinstlouis02Thanks sweetie :)
holliethat sounds pretty good! btw I have been the crying parent a few times myself
travelingirlYes - good job! Enjoy your week of slowness, coffee & chocolate for sure.

And the Beat Goes On 11-08-08 08:32pm EST
Conferences are Wednesday I am suposed to see all 17 sets of parents between 1-6. Yeah they each get 15min. Not really enough time to say all there is to say. It always feels like a marathon and I am not sure there is ever a winner. Pray that they all show and they all listen. I have 6 students that are really struggling as in they may need to repeat. No parent ever likes to hear that. I hate rockin the world.
lovinstlouis02For me, the parents who really need to come in for their failing students NEVER SHOW.
lovinstlouis02The testing is awful these days. Get the politicians out of my classroom already. They have no idea how that detracts from actual teaching and how the kids don't care about scores and even blow it just to make the school look bad. I saw that one state had on their ballot that teacher pay should reflect test scores. HUH? I have so many special ed kid who can't read that just get passed along by previous teachers. They can't read the 8th grade test! The whole thing makes me mad.
lovinstlouis02and Hispanic kids who can't read! How am I going to get their test scores up?
lovinstlouis02I know so many parents of wee ones (and hear that on pleo a lot too) who are sure their child is a genius and are ticked that the teacher doesn't agree. You have to laugh. I mean REALLY...let's trust the professionals here, you know? You have met hundreds of first graders and you'd surely know a genius if he walked into your room. ha.
travelingirlWow - that is not much time at all! We get 30 minutes per conference in elementary. Only 10 if you choose in high school - but hey I would be writing to those hs teachers if I needed to regardless. Good luck to you!
lovinstlouis02We have 15 min with each parent and that is with the history/math/English/science/special ed teachers all talking together in a circle with the parent! Talk fast! :)
travelingirlI haven't had mom's divinity in awhile. I will have to ask her about that. Yummy. I make 2 good treats - chocolate peanut butter balls (that take me 3 hours to roll) and mints. I have to pace myself and get help cuz my right hand/arm is still not able to do all that rolling and stuff.

First Grade Rocks. 10-30-08 09:15pm EST
My kids were so cute today. They have been writing stories and today we published. I brought down the wireless laptops and the kids went wild. You should have seen them. They said," hey we are like 5th graders" and then one said," no we are working just like our mommys and daddys." They were sitting up so straight and tall. What a momment. Then the batteries started dying and I had to plug them into wall outletsafter the panick subsided I looked around they ended up sprawled out all over the floor. It was like a college all nighter. It is amazing what 6 and 7 year olds can do.

PS Ron Clark is one of my heros. Have you seen his kids sing You Can Vote However You Like?
hollieI subbed for a 1st grade class, they were monsters!
jollyhollyday:) They actually enjoy the piano and guitar most. But I am sure she will be introduced to the violin more in time.
jollyhollydayGreat ideas.

We read the Grouchy Ladybug a couple weeks ago. I actually think that encouraged her interest. I might have to check it out again.

I'll also look for "The Doorbell" rang.

I'm always looking for good book suggestions.
travelingirlHow fun! You are so creative. Laptops for 6 & 7 year olds - we could have really used them when we went to college!!!
i_love_socceryou told us none of this! why were they on the floor?
