At a Second Glance.......... 11-05-08 05:46pm EST
I think that we are all a little emotional on the actual election night, but once I have had a chance to take a step back and look at what happened last night, I feel like I can say that true conservatism did not lose last night.

If you listened to Rush during the first hour, then you know where I am going with this, but on the Ballot for the state of California, proposition 8 (I think it was #8) was the proposition to Ban Gay Marriage, and it passed, the majority of Californians Voted to Ban gay marriage. This is pure Conservatism. It is not watered down or convoluted in any way. Banning Gay Marriage is conservative, and this was upheld in one of the most liberal states in the country. The people of this country are not liberal. When there was a true conservative principle to vote for, a liberal state upheld conservatism.

When conservatism is watered down, it will fail. There are no wishy-washy republicans left in the house & senate any more, & we now have a chance to rebuild our party with true conservative republicans.

Bobby Jindal is headed to Iowa this week. 2012,2016,2020, or 2024 Bring it on!!!!!
justjoeyNice man, I was waiting to hear if that passed! YES ON 8!!!
spimmanwe talked about it, I agree
home_slyce_bryceHey Brad, haven't talked to you in a while. I think a lot of people felt more strongly about voting against Bush the spender than for Obama.
spimmanno, never heard of it
justjoeyAHHH...EXCITE BIKE!!! We played that game like it was going out of STYLE...and it did unfortunately.
justjoeyCheck Amazon.com man. That's where it's at. And by "it" I mean EVERYTHING!

WELL.....I GUESS I WAS WRONG 11-04-08 10:45pm EST
I can not figure out if conservatism is truly and currently dead, or if McCain is just not a very good candidate. My wife and I were talking about the O.J. Simpson case (from 1994), and how Marcia Clark, the prosecutor, probably never found work again after lossing a case in which many, many pieces of evidence pointed toward his guilt. Basically the question was, how could anyone have messed that up? And I have to say that I feel the same way tonight. How could McCain have done so poorly in the battleground states. I have said all along that it was Obama's race to lose, but the fact that it looks like McCain will lose just about every big battleground state is just embarrasing.

Oh well, I will look to the future with the words that I heard from a democrat on FOX News earlier......"Now, all of the Republicans in Washington that are left are the core, base republicans, and they can now redefine the republican party with new leadership in the near future with people like Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal."

I could not agree more. The Republican leadership over the past several years is long gone, and I hope that we can redefine our party as true conservatives in the years to come. Ronald Regan was a True Conservative. He stood by his conservative principles, was able to work with the then majority democrats, and he won 91 out of 100 states during 2 elections.
aurocksI love McCain's firm stand on moral issues. I was hoping . . .
tom_bombadilMcCain's stance for embryonic stem cell research kind of ruined his ticket for true conservatives.
bharris007no democratic goverment as ever re-elected the incumbent party amdist a major economic downturn....there have been 25 times in the recorded histories of democrasies? around the world and never has the incumbent party been put back in power
spimmanHow could McCain mess this up? Where do I begin.
1) President Bush's Approval Rating
2) Very Unpopular War
3) Economy Doing Terrible
4) Inspirational and Wellspoken opponent
5) Inexperience VP inspired the base, but not as many others as hoped for

The cards were stacked against him from the start
markrobertsMcCain ran the worst campaign in the history of campaigning, and allowed himself to be tied to one of the worst Presidents in history. he's also a moderate so his own support base was not that enthused about him. other than that - he did fine, which is like saying "Besides that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?" as far as "is it that big a deal that a black man is President?" uh, YES! clearly you're not black. read the media today. this is HUGE and it ought to be huge. no other success - business, athletics, etc. can compare to this. there have been 43 Presidents and none of them were black. there's no way that a white guy like me can possibly begin to imagine what this means to black people - but seeing a black news anchor nearly break down on Fox News last night helped. this is huge. no other way to play it.

Athletes Involved in Politics 10-30-08 01:39pm EST
I read this on DNC-MSNBC.com earlier today...."Retired athletes Patrick Ewing, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Muhammad Ali and Charles Barkley are supporting Obama. Retired athletes John Elway, Troy Aikman, Nolan Ryan and Jack Nicklaus are backing McCain." The article also adds later that Brady Quinn and Curt Shilling are also backing McCain.

Let me ask you a question? Could you wrap up four more deranged, troublesome, Muslim, & trashy atheltes than Patrick Ewing, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Muhammad Ali and Charles Barkley? Keep it up you stupid liberals.
maucknotSeems to break down along racial lines too.

Do You know why the Election is A LOT closer than we all think? 10-22-08 12:19pm EST
Because in 2 days time the gap in the presidential polls has significantly increased over the past 3 days. Just 3 days ago it was a 2.5 point difference between Obama and McCain, and today it is 10 points. Does anyone really buy that? And that is not the only poll, Gallup is showing the same trend as well. It is almost as if they all got the memo that read......"Hey, the election is tightening. Make it look like a run away again."

I would like to see the internal polls for both these campains. If the internals were SOOOOOOOO Bad, then why is McCain in Pennsylvanian this week? I though that state was a lost cause. Why is Sarah Palin attracting record breaking crowds in the same state as well?

Look, this election will be a lot closer than the media is making it out to be. The fact that a person who makes $250,000 of taxable income will only bring home $165,000 under Hussein's plan is leaving a bad taste in everyones mouth, and in case you haven't noticed........$165,000 in todays economy is Not rich. Yeah you are well off, but you are not the "RICH' that he keeps saying you are. He is trying to lump this crowd in with the Multi-millionaires, and I think that this is hurting him to some degree, b/c people who make $250K are usually people who own their own business, work really hard for what they have, and are not the cocktail drinking elite that he wants the rest of America to think that they are.
maucknotHope you are right.
spimmanThe state polls are what scare me, because McCain really can't afford to lose ANY states Bush won and he is behind in a few of them.
natethegreatEven if Obama wins (and I think he will) in order for 'his' tax plan to pass it still has to go through both the house and the senate. I'd be surprised if it actually did. Both candidates are spewing whatever the most people want to hear to get them into office. Once he gets in the oval office, we will see what 'change' truly comes about.
markrobertsall I can say is "scoreboard." it says Penn State was better than us, 13-6.
markrobertsI did too - but not quite good enough. glad we didn't get embarassed again on national TV. that has been a problem of late...
markrobertsvoted in or to take office? it makes a difference....

I can read these Liberals Like a Book 10-02-08 06:22pm EST
Ok, I have been watching pre debate coverage for just a little while today, and I can go ahead and tell you what will happen after the Vice Presidential debate tonight............

First of all you have to know one thing, that Fox News is the only fair news station on Television, so I challenge you to not watch Fox News after the debate, and flip on over to MSNBC or CNN & you will see exactly what I am talking about.

I heard a quote from one of Obama's compain advisors today that said, "Sarah Palin is one of the most skilled debators of our time and always does really well on TV."............OH PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The media has done everything possible to destroy her on television. Their MAIN COMPLAINT against her is that Katie Couric (who is practically on Obama's campain) stumped her with some questions that were spicifically engineered to embarrass her. They have to do this. They have to build her up now, because if Biden happens to blow it tonight they can point back a say, "well, she is SUCH A GREAT debator, and we knew that going into the debate."

The Liberal media, which is practically everybody, is trying to demoralize the Republicans by saying that it is over already. Don't listen to all of that junk, 4 weeks from now, the Bailout will be over the polls will be neck and neck, like they always are, and it will be a close election. Because the fact is that the people are not liberal, whick was CLEARLY evidenced by 95 democrats voting against the bailout in congress.

McCain said it best when talking to members of the media yesterday, "The average american loves Sarah Palin. We have tens of thousands of people at our rallies in every state, and if some cocktail drinking republican in Washington said that she is unqualified, who cares? She connects with the people at home, and that is what matters."
7laughinghardmansThank you for this encouraging post! I read your comment on D.S. blog and I slipped over to thank you! I was feeling discouraged about Palin.
justjoeyShe did amazing at the debate!
imarushbabeSaw you on the politics group and your name intriqued me. Hope you don't mind me popping in. Anyway, nice to find a fellow dittohead, Mr. Snerdley. ;)
