I am officially going back to school/work this fall, starting after Labor day. The company is paying for some college credit classes to be held on site. In short, I'll be taking about 5 credit hours without ever going to campus, just have to go to work and take the classes there. They will count towards an A.A.S in Electronics Engineering which would qualify me for a much better job with the company.
After a week and a half of taking care of my girls by myself in the mornings, I think toddler-sitting should be submitted for consideration as an olympic sport. You could get extra points from the judge panel for neutralizing tantrums, getting them to eat, keeping them clean, alive etc. Similar to diving, your child could get a "degree of difficulty" rating based on a personality test, and then you would also get an "execution" score based on how well, and the style with which you manage them. Possibility?
so cool that ya'll are on the plan too. We have been stuck in baby step 2 for a while but I think we just got a boost that will help us progress more quickly. Good luck.
If a mute swears, does his mother wash his hands with soap?
If it's zero degrees outside today and it's supposed to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold is it going to be?
Isn't is a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do "practice?"
Where do forest rangers go to get away from it all?
If the universe is everything, and scientists say that the universe is expanding, what is it expanding into?
If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?
If the sun gives light to the earth, then why is it dark in space?
Why do "overlook" and "oversee" mean opposite things?
and my favorite...Instead of putting pictures of criminals in the post office, why aren't they put on stamps so postman could look for them while they deliver the mail?
Well, last week I put in over 65 hours of work. I don't mind for now, it's getting the bills paid. I am pretty well settled into this job now. It's a factory job, but I'm not stuck doing the same repetitive thing over and over. I have a toolbox with all kinds of tools that I wheel around to various jobs, do what I can on them, and then move on. I also like it because there is variety in the tasks I perform as far as the physical demands. They range from filling out forms and putting stickers on a job to turning wrenches, to building large 8'X10' pallets. It's not always fun, but overall I enjoy it, and I'd much rather do this than appraisal work any day.
I'm also experimenting with planning my time off every day. I've found that scheduling time to do work on projects/run errands helps you stick to getting them done. This morning the day was scheduled to take the girls to get some of their vaccinations. Other than the expected screaming and crying, they did really well, and of course they got ice cream afterwards. On the list tomorrow is mowing the lawn. Hopefully it won't actually need to be mowed, and I can reschedule for another day.
Also, the appraisal license is now expired. Not worth the $250.00 to renew. That's all.
Dad's are great at doing the tuff stuff (ie. vaccinations). Seth had a tick leg stuck in his face and he would not let the Dr get it out. So she sent me home with the scalpel. It was one of those things that a Dad has to do. It's a good thing that things like that don't bother Kyle.
Hey man!! Good to see you are doing well. Are you taking those girls fishing?? hehe. I got owen casting his "lightnin maqueen" pole pretty good now. Well, one of these days we are going to make a trip out to NC... and we'll make sure we get over the your neck of the woods.
I've been working at my new job now for about 3 weeks, and I am really enjoying it so far. Im involved in the final assembly process of some large, higher voltage (relatively speaking) electrical equipment. Seems like there's been a thousand things to learn, but it's all starting to come together. This isn't the exact job that I want to work at for the next 30 years, but this could be the company I want to work at for the next 30. It's by no means hard physical labor, but it keeps you moving the same, so I've lost nearly 10 lbs since march 24th. Hope that trend continues.
It looks like I won't be doing any more appraisal work. I can't say I'm sad about that. My license renewal is coming up at the end of June. The renewal fee is about $250.00, so I'm giving some consideration to just letting it go. At the same time, it took me years of work experience to get it, so my mind isn't made up yet on that.
In other news, the NBA playoffs are here, so in other words the regular season continues for another 3 or 4 weeks. Instead of the seemingly 100 NBA teams going for the championship we now are down to 98. I'm interested to know, does anybody care until there's maybe 8 teams left?
I stopped caring about the NBA in general several years ago. I'll leave it on while I nap on Sundays, and I'll watch the Finals. That's about it though.
I hope that you will succeed well with your new job. I look forward to a soon to be hit story from you about how you somehow knocked over the flux capacitor and it set the plant a blaze or something similar and full of gusto.
I'm starting a new job on march 24th. It's an entry level position at a plant here in town that deals a lot with machining and electrical type fields. It is only an entry level job, but there's a lot of advancement opportunity for the future, so I view it as a career change. They will pay for technical degrees or a bachelor's degree if I choose to go that route. Right now I'm wanting to pick a technical degree that would be related to what they do, but would give me the right skills to find work other places if I ever needed to. But, it will be a while before I'll have the time to actually go back to school. In the meantime, I think there's advancement opportunity without going back to school. In the short term, I will still be doing some appraisal work on the side, but not every week. This seems to be a great opportunity, and I think it's what we've been needing for a long time.
