Hey everyone! So it's sadly been a while since my last post. Thanks for all of the Happy Birthday's, it was a good one this year. Things have been goin' really good for me in the last few months. School is great! I bought a new guitar, which I saved for for a while, as well as won a poster contest thing through which I won a $100.00 savingsbond thing, a pat on the back, and a snazzy little plaque that reads, "Duke Metzger...". :) Anyway, I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving this year. There's so much to be thankful for that it's not even funny. We had Thanksgiving at our house this year, so it involved a bit of cleaning (I'm a pretty clean type of person so I didn't have to do near as much cleaning as some). My music has taken me further and further down Instrumental Lane, Just kidding. What I mean is, music has always been a part of my life, but now it seems to be one of the MAIN things. I've been working hard on developing my own style on the mandolin, guitar, and also banjo. It's great fun.
Well, I'll try to post again sooner than this one came sometime. I'm off with my sister and Jady Copeland to attempt a shopping day, on Black Friday. Wish me luck! :)
You got a new guitar? Nice! Did you ever find out about coming down for the concert lol? Me and my dad are going to it. I'm actually going to try to pick up my ticket here in a few hours, and the guy at Rocketown I talked to said they should be on stage around 9 so that would work out perfectly if we went to Broadmoor that night.
1. My last name means "Butcher" in German.
2. I jumped in the pool with my 1st cell phone.
3. My 1st mandolin broke in the air. (Long story)
4. I LOVE lemon slushes.
5. I can't live without playing 1 instrument per day.
6. I've met a professional wrestler named Hillbilly Jim. (Haha)
7. I've personally gotten George W. Bush's autograph.
8. I enjoyed talking to trees when I was 5. :)
Hey Guys! Hope you learned something about me today! :) I'm on Fall Break, which is SO nice! We flew into the Tampa Airport today, which was a smooth flight. I'll try to keep up my posting on here, since I haven't done so in quite sometime now.
Hey Luke! how's things going? I just sent your mom an email, but I'm not sure it's her current address. Could you tell me which one she's using? Much thanks! :)
HAPPy Birthday!!!!! I didn't know it was your birthday....well it's not your birthday NOW, but you know what I mean.... sorrt It's late!!!! How's it going?
Hey guys! It's been a while since I have posted, and I'm sorry to say that I do believe that the reason for this lack is because I have been recently 'drawn in' to Facebook. But, unlike most people, I am still going to continue to remain on Pleonast, till the day I die, haha.
What have I been up to these days? Let see, about a week ago I went to Chicago Camp, which let me tell you, was GREAT! This summer has gone by WAY to fast. I am unfortunately feeling the 'back to school blues.' I got my student I.d. thing today, which was pretty much the last step in preparing for school. My classes seem to fit me very well, not to hard, and not to easy. As a Freshman, this year should be pretty fun, as long as I keep my focus on grades and hard work, which shouldn't be too hard. :)
Hope everybody is doing great!
Here's a quick joke: How do you fix a broken computer? Use computer glue, duh! Haha...
I'm doing great. :) Thanks for asking. I am sorry you are feeling the "back to school blues". The summer has really flown by hasn't it? How's the varying instrumental talents going? Still play the drums, I hope. ;)
luke, you don't know me but I met your sister at Texas Camp. I work Camp as a counselor - it's greatness. met your brother and mom this last weekend at FC where we were moving my daughter Becca in. she's a freshmen at FC. saw you playing the mandolin on your mom's Pleo and just had to stop by. I play mandolin too - bluegrass rules! how long you been playing? what kind you got? stop over at my pleo and talk mandolin with me!
I play a Gibson Ricky Skaggs signature edition - the one that costs more than two cars. NOT!!! I wish I did but that'll have to wait till some day in the future. Right now I'm playing an Eastman 515. Eastmans are made in China but they are really good mandolins for the money. They used the 1923 Loar as their blueprint and just basically are making a reproduction of those Loars. good mandolins. send me your shirt size and design preference and I'll shoot one right out.
can do on shirt. send me an email with address please. you read tablature or play totally by ear? favorite bluegrass artist? I'm a huge Ricky Skaggs fan...
oh yeah, I have a song I want us to try to learn on the drums lol....I saw us because it requires more than one guy on the drums. It's pretty simple and I know most of it, but they used five guys for the recording of it. Every guy had a different tom. I think the smallest they used was a 14 x 12 though, and there were one or 2 of them, and they got even wider and deeper.
gahhh!i want her to go to eastside, not auburn! so when i come over to visit, i can go to eastside! ive only been there once, and i couldnt find my way back from the classroom! lol. that was retarded :)
It is addicting! It's 11:36 and I just finished school because today I doubled up schoolwork so it took SOO LONG!! But I asked my mom I'm like can I please get on after I finish homework! Right now is the first time I have gotten on today....it's been killin me no I'm jk...I do really like it on here cause a bunch of people from camp NOAH are on here so well I guess i will ttyl!
Hey guys, just thought I'd let you all know that I was taken off for Washington D.C. for a little while. My family is goin' for the 4th of July, and also to see my brother who has been working at the White House for the summer. There's a pretty good chance that we will be able to see the fireworks on the south lawn of the white house, so that should be pretty awesome! :)
Well, hope all is GREAT for everyone! Happy 4th! :)
Hey Luke, I hope ya'll have a safe trip. Tell the family I said "hello!" We will be residents of KY probably by the beginning of September. Looking forward to seeing ya'll more often.
Hey guys! Thought I would post a short post to catch y'all up with the "Luke Metzger's Life" newspaper... :)
So one of Mom's patients at work gave her this case with an instrument in it and told her that it was his Grandfather's mandolin which won him his wife, haha, that made me laugh. So when Mom got home, she handed this case to me, and explained that it was her patient’s, but that she thought he would probably let me have it if I cleaned it up, and put new strings on it. I opened it up and there was this odd looking mandolin. It was a home-made 1920 Potatobug, (or "Taterbug") mandolin. The difference in it compared to a regular mandolin has a straight back, and the Potato Bug mandolin has a rounded back. Here are a few links, well not really links since you can't click on them, but similar pictures of what it looks like:
So yeah, I polished it up with some Martin guitar polish, and put new strings on it. The only thing I have to do with it now is replace the nut at the top where the strings go down into. This may be kinda hard to understand, haha.
Well, hope everybody's doin' good! Oh, and today's her birthday, so go wish her a happy b-day!
That sounds cool. When we were in D.C. I saw a mandolin that belonged to one of the Wright brothers(I don't remember which), and it looked like that. I got a picture so I could show you, so I'll try to put it on here pretty soon. :)
Hey! what's up, I haven't talked to you in a while. What r u doin' at camp this year! AAAH!! 2 1/2 weeks and I think I'll die before I can get there! Oh, by the way, my little bro's comin' to camp this year too so there'll be 4 hopkins instead of only 3!
