Redneck Gourmet 10-01-08 03:42pm EST
The Redneck Gourmet, one of my favorite eating establishments where I live in Newnan, made the front page of CNN.com in a story about small businesses and the current economy. You can read about it here. If you get a chance, stop by and grab a burger or the chicken strips.
amyjane72did you go to austin city limits this year?
sweetpeasI think the Newnan one must be better than the Senoia one. Or maybe I just didn't order well.
sarahsmileMy fave restaurant is Ru Sans. Ever eat there?
sarahsmileIt's closer to your work than your house, of course
adnerbYou have to be kidding... I LOVE the Redneck Gourmet! Their fries are the best. And, I live in Newnan as well! But I don't know you. My name is Brenda. I know your sister from camp. I also have family living in Houston; in fact, that is where I grew up. My family goes to Alief CofC, just in case you were wondering. Okay. I'm guessing that is MORE than enough info for someone who doesn't even know me and probably couldn't care less!
mmmcoffeenever tried it. maybe you should treat me.
grgapchI've heard of that place before but have never been. It sounds good though.
susieI love that article, it's nice to see the mom & pop places staying in business.

Ike 09-11-08 09:59pm EST
Keep my family and friends in Texas in your prayers. Hurricane Ike started drifting north and is on track to hit the Houston area early Saturday morning. My sister and her family, along with many others in the Houston area, are under mandatory evacuation orders. They are now at my parent's place in east Texas, but the weather could still be rough there. The current path has the eye of the storm passing 50 or so miles west of my parents, and it's still predicted to be a category 1 hurricane then.

musicmom66Thanks, Brian. We aren't evac-ing. We were going to when it was going to come into Victoria, but that has since changed about nine times.
musicmom66And to my utter consternation, the game Saturday is postponed until the 27th.
tessMy prayers are with you and your family. My parents live near Tyler, and are expecting much water there as well. It is missing me now that is it going over Houston and not Corpus.

I hope everyone is safe. I just posted for prayers for this, too.
sweetpeasPraying they stay safe! Hope to see you tonight at the singing.
scottishceliHave you heard from your family? We didn't get anything but some wind...maybe 40 mph. But we have friends and family in that area and some of my favorite quilt shops too.
sweetpeasHow's the family doing? They can get back to their home soon.
sweetpeasJust learned yesterday that Ike hit my parent's place pretty hard on Sunday. A tree landed across both cars, but one is still drivable. They have about 30 trees down on the property and a lot of limbs and debris to clean up.
Fortunatly, no one was hurt and no damage to the house- still waiting on the power to be turned back on, though. It's amazing the power that was still in Ike even in Indiana!
mmmcoffeeyou've been tagged. see my blog.
sweetpeasNap not really necessary at this point. Amazing how that works.
zavalaYes, very frustrated. Stanley has decided he has my temperament. Wants to do it on his own and gets frustrated that he can't. Now for training that leg kicking fits are not acceptable.
mmmcoffeeno. it. doesn't.

lilyofthevalleyWow, Texas won by a good bit! I know you're so proud ;)
praguerI miss college football. I'm so out of touch - I don't even know who/if we played last weekend. I'm glad your team won, but who is the Kindergarden U school?? :)
sweetpeas^hee hee! I haven't ever heard of them either, but it is a win!

I'm sure this week will fly by in some ways. Hope it continues on a high note.

Kevin worked yesterday, goes golfing at noon today and is gone on a trip tomorrow and gets back Friday evening. (1.5 days of work) Normally, he would be thinking of all the things he will leave unfinished. This time, I think he is enjoying himself. :)
zavalaCan't wait to see you all.
bioboFlorida Who???
satbWay to go, Texas!
maucknotFunny how Auburn and Texas flip-flopped in the two major polls. Since I know so many Texas fans, hopefully Auburn will surge ahead for good shortly.
musicmom66Oh, yeah... Hook 'em Horns! I could not watch it, but caught some of it on the AM 600 station. Plus internet reports of the score...
sarahsmileWhat exactly is a Florida Atlantic? Is that a real team?
musicmom66Hey, you are around!
musicmom66Did you stay up to watch the game?

Really? 08-20-08 05:02pm EST
Various news outlest are reporting that the discovery of remains of "Bigfoot" by a couple of Georgia residents is a hoax. Here a couple of lines from National Geographic's posting:

*Only days after Georgia residents Matt Whitton and Rick Dyer told reporters at a press conference on Friday that they had a dead Bigfoot body, their evidence has been exposed as a rubber ape costume. The deception was made public by the very company Whitton and Dyer teamed up with to announce their supposed find. In a statement posted on the Web site of Searching for Bigfoot Inc., "Sasquatch Detective" Steve Kulls said he realized the Bigfoot "corpse" was a fake when the frozen body began to thaw—after the press conference had already taken place.

*Kulls wrote that he immediately informed Searching for Bigfoot CEO Tom Biscardi about the discovery. Upon confrontation, Whitton and Dyer reportedly admitted to the hoax.

A quick search on Google News turned up 786 articles for "Bigfoot hoax". Really? Is this story that newsworthy? I would ask a silly question like, "Are there that many people out there who believe that Bigfoot actually exists?", but I think I already have the answer to that question if groups like "Searching for Bigfoot" actually have members and if there is actually as person who labels himself as the "Sasquatch Detective".
julied93Reminds me of Harry & the Hendersons
amyjane72you should listen to rick and bubba talk about this. their big thing this morning was that these people set up this hoax and all they got out of it was $25K each. they should have at least gone for more so they could escape to a remote island and lived for a few years in prosperity. :)
grgapchWell, this Matt Whitton is a FORMER co-worker of Larry's at Clayton County. I say "former" because he got fired this week. I guess they didn't want all of this bad press that Whitton was getting to make the department look bad. Just to give you a little insight to Mr. Whitton; his nick-name at work was V.I. Short for Village Idiot.
mmmcoffeeum. they had the press conference BEFORE they examined the body? V.I. seems to describe the whole lot of them.
susie^Ditto^ - Why do they have to be from Georgia?!
mmmcoffeeer...as long as the teams are made up of Disney Princesses, they'll watch any game.
satbWell, I guess you will be surprised to see that I am finally posting something. Maybe I will get the hang of it sooner or later.
musicmom66HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
jqpCongrats on what? This is a "take one for the team" type deal. Several of us have volunteered to rotate through this unfortunate duty.
susieOkay, good! We are at your mercy, you tell us what we need to see!
sarahsmileAre you now regretting the Bigfoot tattoo you got (to go along with your other rather remarkable tattoos) just minutes after the press conference? I told you to wait it out...but no! you never listen to my advice!
lilyofthevalleyI know, that's only a few weeks away! I'm looking forward to it. I'm with mom :)
jqpOh, that. If only I personally benefited financially from this.
sweetpeasGood Luck Starting Your New Job!!!!
mmmcoffeeum...what? oh. sarcasm.

Fashion cola 08-15-08 12:16am EST
I read a blurb today talking about a change in Coca-Cola's image overseas. Here's what it said:

Diet Coke, or as they say in Italy, Coca Light, is getting a makeover just in time for women’s fashion week in Milan at the end of September.

Roberto Cavalli was picked to rev things up and the designer decked out the tiny glass bottles in three motifs featuring his staple animal spots and stripes.

The limited edition bottles will be available in Italy from September through December. Cavalli compared creating looks for the 300,000 curvy containers to designing dresses for his customers, making them, "seductive and feminine, in typical Cavalli style."

Here's what the bottles will look like. How do you say, "Can I have one of those ugly bottles of Coca-Cola Light" in Italian?

Photobucket
amyjane72um, i think getting this near my mouth would terrify me.
sweetpeasAnyone who has seen me, knows I am not up on the latest fashion trends. Once again I am forced to ask a very important question.... HUH?!
tessThat is crazy....you find the funniest and strangest stories!
julied93^ Yes, we can ALWAYS count on Brian! ;-)
jqpI'm all over that leopard skin diet coke.
susieI think they look cool!
mmmcoffeeI like that name you gave our screened in porch! Enjoyed your company tonight! and thanks for the leftovers.
travelagentwendiI think that is neat as long as the taste doesn't change! Maybe I can buy one on ebay??? I don't know what I would do with it, so maybe I won't!
auburnfan96cool
sweetpeasHehe! I'll let him know that! :) It's just a very different situation than the usual. I think that is why it has given us much more to think about this time.
mmmcoffeeI think the 1980s version of Larissa will never make an appearance anywhere.
sweetpeasThat's why I went ahead and let people know about the possibility. If everyone is praying with us, that will definitely help in this situation.
susieHope you are feeling better! :)
susieKristyn is blow drying her RED hair right now!
maucknotNo, haven't seen the final, but I'm not surprised.
susieFeeling better today, still not full capacity.
susieOh, Believe me, he won't!!!!!
