I'm now half way through the didactic (class) part of my school. I go to clinicals in Sept. for 6 months. Had 4 tests last week and one this week, but this is a short week due to the holiday. I'll be heading to Tampa on Thurs., coming back Sunday.
My girlfriend came to visit recently. She asked me to take her out somewhere expensive. So I took her to the gas station. That's a joke, btw.
What's with all the natural disasters over the past few years? Hurricane Katrina, the tsunami in Sri Lanka or whatever, monsoon hit somewhere recently, cyclone in Myanmar, earth quakes in Japan and China, the flooding of the midwest, tornadoes everywhere, forest fires in CA, NC, AZ, and FL. This is esp. bad now that the price of produce is going up.
With the prices of gas and food going up, the stock market crashing, the housing marketing plummeting, do you think it is all, or even partly the result of 9/11? I went to visit Ground Zero a few years ago. I remember someone saying that NYC (which in turn is the U.S., and then the world) loses so many billions of dollars a day because of the buildings that fell, b/c the companies lost all business there, the business HQ of the world.
I'm looking forward to some new movies coming out this year or next...The Dark Knight, Jurassic Park 4, Shrek 4, G.I. Joe, The Mummy 3, the next X-men movie (Wolverine, I believe). And I heard this morning that there are plans in the making for a prequel and a sequel to the movie 300.
That is all.
Carry on. |

Here are some interesting things I found about Democrats, and a joke at the end. And I'm sure I'll take some heat about it, but I don't care.
22 WAYS TO BE A GOOD DEMOCRAT
1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on
demand.
2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and
governments create prosperity.
3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans
are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the
hands of Chinese and North Korean communists.
4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding
5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by
documented cyclical changes in the earth's climate and more affected by
soccer moms driving SUV's.
6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being
homosexual is natural.
7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of
federal funding.
8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach fourth
graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about
sex.
9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but
activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.
10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than
actually doing something to earn it.
11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own
money to make 'The Passion of the Christ' for financial gain only.
12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain
parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports
certain parts of the Constitution.
13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too
high.
14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are
more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Thomas
Edison, and A.G. Bell.
15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial
quotas and set-asides are not.
16. You have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and is a very
nice person.
17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked
anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in
charge.
18. You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in
jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House.
19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag,
transvestites, and bestiality should be constitutionally protected, and
manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.
20. You have to believe that illegal Democrat Party funding by the
Chinese Government is somehow in the best interest to the United
States .
21. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right
wing conspiracy.
22. You have to believe that it's okay to give Federal workers the day
off on Christmas Day but it's not okay to say 'Merry Christmas.'
Our Social Security
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be
Completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program.
3.) That the money the participants elected to put
into the Program would be deductible from
their income for tax purposes each year,
4.) That the money the participants put into the independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program.
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are
now receiving a Social Security check every month --
and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put
away' -- you may be interested in the following:
> >
> > -------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the
independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the
general fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, wit h Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving
annuity payments to immigrants?
A: Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,
began to receive Social Security payments! The
Democratic Party gave these payments to the even though they never paid a dime into it!
Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats
turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure to keep it 'as is'
The Lie Clock
A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What are all those clocks?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move."
"Oh," said the man, "Whose clock is that?"
"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie."
"Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?"
St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life."
"Where's Hillary Clinton's clock?" asked the man.
"Hillary's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan ."
That is all.

I have recently been visiting other CoC congregations, and have noticed some obvious differences. I tend to compare and contrast churches I've been to to the one I grew up in. I've come to realize the one I grew up in was very conservative.
The one I had been going to in NC did a few things differently, such as a youth group, clapping when someone gets baptized or has a baby, and singing 'happy birthday' to someone after worship has concluded.
I recently posted a blog about my experience at an all black congregation and how they did things, you can scroll down to read it if you would like. Then I went to one a couple weeks ago whom I was told was liberal, but I wanted to check it out for myself, because I want to know exactly what goes on there.
Here was my experience: I come inside for worship, and everyone is on a 'social hour' for coffee and donuts. After we are seated they start worship with a video on the big screen about the separate entities of worship (I assume this is mainly for the visitors). Then we start singing and I noticed a few people were raising their hands in the air and waving them, including the preacher. There were about 4 or 5 people within the front 2 rows on one side who also had mic's besides the song leader. And normally when the song leader leads a song in which there is an all female part, he will sing along with them. So I found it awkward when a song started with an all female part, only by women, being led by 3 women sitting on the front row.
During communion he invited people to talk to each other and tell how they feel God has blessed them. And after the final song before the sermon, when the kids were excused to their Bible class, aka playtime, he invited everyone to get up and walk around to meet and greet everybody for about 10 minutes.
The sermon was basically just a Bible study series, as we were in John 5 I believe, so it wasn't really a sermon. And he would ask for people to answer questions and participate in the sermon. Oh yeah and he started the sermon with the scripture reading, asking someone in the audience to read the scripture from his seat.
After it was over, a former elder, who was visiting, came up to give the 'Sheperd's blessing'. He gave a small talk and said he blesses everyone there and read a prayer from the Bible that goes something along the lines of 'May God be with you and keep you...'
After he said his own prayer and everyone was dismissed, I stayed to talk to the preacher and explained to him how I felt, that I wasn't used to everything I had experienced there. I told him I'm from a more conservative church of Christ, aka, the Anti-CoC. (anti-clapping, anti-socializing during worship, anti-women leading worship, etc.) I asked him if his church was liberal. He hesitated for a few seconds then responded by saying he thinks is church is the 'progressive' Church of Christ.
Ok, so now here is my question (playing the devil's advocate--no pun intended): Who or what says what they do is wrong? Who are we to judge them as not being the 'right' Church of Christ? Is there specifically some set of standards we must follow in our worship, or do we do it only because that's how we were taught, and therefore anyone else who deviates from it is wrong? We group the liberal CoC (and progressive) with people of other religions like the Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, etc. I once mentioned I might visit a certain church of Christ in Nashville, but was told 'Oh don't go to that one, they are liberal.' Like I was being told not to go to a Catholic mass and was forsaking the assembly. How does one justify that we as conservative members can condemn one variation of our own religion or another religion completely because they do things differently, even if they live completely righteous lives. How can we tell someone who is a devout Baptist, who goes to church every time the door is open, reads their Bible everyday, doesn't smoke, drink, or cuss, that they are going to hell if they don't convert to the Church of Christ? I've had a few friends I've talked to and got them to start coming to church, but found it hard to explain what they were doing was not right, no matter how religious they felt they were.
What are your thoughts?
That is all.
Carry on. |

I got all moved to Newport News, VA.
I'm attending X-ray tech school in Portsmouth, at the Naval School of Health Sciences.
We're going over some math now, stuff I haven't had since my freshman year at FC 10 years ago.
I went on leave for a couple weeks before starting school, going to IN and FL.
I played the license plate game on my way back from FL to VA, found 43 states and 4 Canadian provinces and one that said 'Consul', which I'm assuming is a special gov't plate.
I got engaged over the weekend. Big day hasn't been set yet.
I've not had very good luck getting adjusted to my new life here in VA. My first night here I had no heat (this was the first week of March), b/c I didn't know how to work the gas fireplace. The 3rd night was a thunderstorm and the power went out. Last Friday I woke up at 0611, when I should be on the road to school by 0545, so I was 15 minutes late for school.
Saturday I took my car in for an oil change. They said it would be awhile so I left it there and went walking around. When I came back, the mechanic showed me a list of things that needed to be done, totaling almost $1700. Of course my warranty expired last fall. Then after getting most of those problems fixed, I went to the carwash to wash and vacuum it.
After vacuuming, I accidentally locked my keys in the car.
So I walked back to the house, about an hour walk, to get my spare key, but the house was locked and of course the house key is locked inside my car. There wasn't any way to jimmy a window out, and I contemplated breaking a window, but decided against it. So I walked back to the carwash where I met a retired sailor who is also from IN. He called AAA for me and waited with me. I didn't leave there till about 2130.
Please say hello to my good friend Amber who is new to pleo. She's from the great state of TX.
That is all.
Carry on.
Oh by the way...about me getting engaged....April Fools!
