Why I Teach Kindergarten 05-08-08 10:47am EST
Look at this book written by one of my Kindergarteners:

"Robbie's Book About God"

Once upon a time there was someone named Robbie. All of a sudden an angel popped up. The angel said, "Come to heaven, Robbie, to see God."

In heaven, angels sat by God like guards. God talked to Robbie and said, "Come to me and sit in my lap. I'm going to take a picture." He took a picture with me. Jesus took it.

Then I saw my dad! And I saw my granny and great-great-grandma. They are in heaven. Dad came to me and hugged me. My grandma's hugged me, too.

Then I came back down with God. God came with me. My mom and brother were happy for me. Everyone hugged God!

The End

Robbie's dad passed away when he was a baby. While talking with him about his story taking place in heaven, he said the cutest thing: "In heaven, sweet tea is my water." Amen, Robbie!
notcoolhow precious. Do your kindergarteners write that well?;-)
joyfulsongDid he have a dream or just make up the story? Very sweet.
missysnappThat's amazing.
goonieJesus took the picture! LOL!
ex_patSweet story and from his heart.
ktembryHello Kathy! Its Katie Embry? Have you enjoyed Kindergarten this year? I'm going back to K in the fall. I'm looking forward to it.
ktembryHmmm. #1 -- Always plan more than you think you will need. You usually end up needing it and if you don't stash it away in a sub folder. #2 -- Enlist in volunteers. I did a ton of craft work. I did a letter a week and always had 5 crafts for each letter. (one for each day) But that takes a lot of time cutting and preparing. Find volunteers. #3 -- Don't sweat the small stuff. I tend to be very strict in the classroom, which is not a bad thing. They need to learn how to behave at school and some just need to learn how to act in general. But, ultimately at the end of the day or week or year, if you've done your job well and your kids are reading and making strides, it doesn't matter if "johnny" was talking during centers, or if susie was whispering in the lunch line. I'm sure I could think of a ton more like that, and I bet you could too. :) You got any good advice for me? I may have more experience in Kindergarten but you have more experience in the classroom.
ex_patHome safe and sound! Tim is a little under the weather but feeling better. Enjoyed last Sunday evening.
nacmacfeegleI miss your class.) Even Dillon- or maybe especially Dillon) Maybe this week, I hope.
lindseyI haven't! I'll need to look into that. The doctor wants me to get an insane amount of vitamin D... I guess she doesn't trust me to get it on my own :)

(It's okay... she's right.)
lindseyActually, that's the funny part... she didn't tell me to eat differently. She just said I wouldn't get enough anyway so go ahead and supplement. I order vitamins from Nature's Sunshine so I'll probably add that to an order. I'll definitely have to look into the other though!
chemo_brainsorry that I'm just now reading your post. It sounds like teaching can be very rewarding. Kids have such a pure perspective on everything.
wareagleHey Boo!
gallatinrealtorHi, kathy. I have been trying to find a place for you this summer.
lovable92My mom taught kindergarten once before she got pregnant for my little brother and she said you have to have a ton of patience with the younger children
gallatinrealtorBe sure you introduce yourself to me. I am still learning people so I sometimes hesiate to introduce myself.
kristiegoreI love this post, that little boys story is so sweet:)
lydiasmotherHow sweet! that is the reason my sister had taught K for almost 30 years. she loves it too. She keeps telling me to watch what we do, say and everything cause the little ones have no qualms about airing the laundry. Lol should be fun.
ryanandnancyHi! I'm glad you found us! I would love to teach Kindergarten whenever I go back. We had our little boy, Colton, in January!
ex_patWhat do you think of this as a pleo fundraiser for FC. We seem to have problems have an alumni group so why not on pleo, Let me know. Check out this sight for cookbooks. Thanks http://www.fundcraft.com/fc/aboutus.asp Check this out as a possible fundraiser for FC Pleo. (question on FCParents)
mcbecciNo prob. Glad things are going well. Keep in touch!

I'm finally on pleonast! 05-04-08 06:42pm EST
hey everyone! This is Kathy K. I am looking for a place to stay in Nashville for a few weeks this summer. If anyone knows of someone who wouldn't mind some company, please let me know! Thanks!
missysnappHave you thought about tapping into the old lady contingent, so that you could help around the house or something?

Or tapping into the person with small children contingent and you could offer them some time off in the afternoons here and there. Just a thought...
ex_patWelcome!
2thehiltGlad you are here!!
goonieGlad to see you finally posted! Welcom to the nast!
notcoolHi Kathy! How are things?
kristiegoreHey Kathy how are you? I live in Nashville and wouldn't mind you staying but we only have a 1 bedroom apartment...we do have a very comfortable air matress though:) So, if you need to stay with me for a few nights or more let me know.
lydiasmotherWelcome!
missysnappCan we go after 7? I need to finagle Jenna's schedule a bit and get the other kids set for bed time. Call me this afternoon and we'll plan it. Closer to 7:30 would be better, but I don't want to make it tough for you.
hennypennyAWESOME that you are here! I so look forward to catching up...:)
ex_patGive it to Mom. Thanks.
