Its amazing what we consider "effective communication". Last night in our marriage class we discussed this "icy" concept within the context of marriage.

Here's a perfect example of my stupidity in this area: Andy may have no idea what he did to upset me or why I'm so upset and so instead of telling him to rectify the situation, I block his advances, "secretly judging" him for what he doesn't realize or understand. Real effective right?

Because magically one morning he's going to wake up and remember that he didn't pick up the dry cleaning when I asked him to and that's why I'm avoiding him/holding him at arms length. Mind you usually the "offense" is more serious than not picking up drycleaning but the concept is the same.

Reading this I'm laughing thinking "how stupid and childish is this", but I fully admit to doing it at times in my marriage and in other relationships as well.

The visual in this situation is what kills me. How do we expect our spouse, friend, boss, etc to talk to us through an invisible 6 ft wide stonewall (or even know it's there sometimes). ;)

alexdeep things to ponder for a friday. ;)
cmvermontsometimes it's hard to think rationally.
(haha that goes without saying but still)
girlietexanI need to repost your blog on blog...ditto that :)
tulagirlWow you are really rockin' as a wife. You have found a gem that will keep your marriage a treasure. They really can't read your mind. They are not the Mentalist, you do have to communicate. They are however programmable and after enought YEARS of letting them know why you are upset that get better at understanding and preventing them. However an older sister told me once about a pet peeve she had and after 25 years her husband never got it right. So beware so things you just may have to get over and pick up your own dry cleaning if it is really important...
adampualman...so true. why do we expect people to read our minds? so much easier and relieving to just tell them how we feel.

Workouts and cheap meat... 11-09-08 08:55pm CST
I'm getting a head start on the new year's resolution starting now! Hurray for daily workout! We'll see how long this lasts! So far it's been good!

Other exciting news, I've learned how to incorporate venison into all our favorite foods (as a replacement for ground beef). Very exciting considering it's an extremely high protein, extremely low fat meat! The best part is Andy loves it even though it's healthy. I made a lasagna last week that he raved about! (Woo hoo! I love it when that happens and it's affordable and good for us!)

iheartshoesGood for you!
bahVenison is good! We missed ya'll yesterday at church.
cmvermonti want lasagna!
alexI would love to try that!
sunshinelcCan you tell the difference?
matermagistraI really like venison. Too bad I don't get it very often.
dreamingofguitarsoh man, i'll take venison over ground beef any day of the week! it has a wild taste to it that you really can't find any where else! ...
texasgreenHello and thanks for stopping by my page cheers
melissakaehaha... "it only hurts when I breath" came on my Ipod this morning and I was like "What a wonderful song to characterize my life this morning!"

Weddings and baseball 10-19-08 10:57pm CST
Jenny and Brandon's wedding was BEAUTIFUL!! And for the girl that never cries...my eyes even teared up. I'm so happy for them!

John Kilgore's lesson this evening was written personally for me (or at least that's how I felt). It's amazing how scriptures speak to you when you free your mind enough to LISTEN. Still working on that!

On a sadder note...the Sox blew it and the world series will be far less interesting (for me). Oh well....go Tampa...I guess??
bahWe gonna have to differ on this one sis. I was glad to see Boston go!
steven_cuffleI disagree with both of you. The Cubs were robbed once again. How do you play so well in the regular season and then just...die...in the post season?

Hurray for good friends! 10-07-08 08:39pm CST
Just a quick note about the power of friendship. My dear friend has been an angel on my shoulder, lifting me up over the past few weeks as I've been really discouraged regarding my current job. The remarkable part is her persistence in the wake of such an important life event (in her life)!

She is an encouragement to me that I can do more than I think I can for those around me in spite of my crazy work schedule. In fact I should be incorporating more of my service to God into my daily work routine. I realized this week I REALLY need to approach this job as more of a service to my Lord than I currently give it.

I love her dearly and hope one day I can return this act of kindness and service to her when she is in need.

Thank you friend (You know who you are) and thank you God for putting such a wonderful person in my path to pick me up, dust me off, and set me back on my feet!
