I spent a long time talking with my family this weekend - After I hung up, I thought about how blessed I am - how blessed my family is. The accident was serious enough for them to have died then, but instead, God sent His angels to protect them, and now they're recovering, surrounded by people who love them.
I can't thank God enough for that!!!
So, as I'm sitting here enjoying my "personal day" (off from work), I can't help but meditate on God's words:
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. . . What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?"
Even when life gets tough, I need to remember His promise, and truly believe that He will give me ALL things that will work together for good... not easy to do, but we have no better alternative, do we?
Thank God today for your blessings and share them with someone else =)
The weekend did go well, thanks! I just read about you in the FC magazine. :) I'm so proud to have gone through the program at USF with you. You are definitely a positive person to have around. Hillsborough County should count its blessings! Have a great Thanksgiving!
Once again, thank you everyone for your prayers, kind thoughts, calls and E-mails.
My mom is recovering from her second surgery, but still in pain and suffering from the side effects of general anesthesia. The surgeon said that in 30 years, he had never seen a nose so crushed! He was very optimistic about the results, so we're hoping everything turns out well.
The orthopedist said she won't be needing surgery for her ankle, which is a great relief! My mom's recovery will be long and probably painful, so she will still need support =)
My grandmother is not doing too well. She's in a lot of pain because they found she has a broken rib, so breathing, moving, eating, etc... is very painful! Her knee is recovering from her surgery, but she will also need intensive physical therapy in the upcoming weeks/months.
My dad is scheduled to see a doctor, I believe a neurologist, because he's been having problems concentrating and focusing, and his head hurts constantly.
So, as you can see, even though they're out of danger, they're still not doing very well... I'm just glad they're still here with us and continue to pray they may heal soon and not have any major long-term difficulties.
Well, I'm not glad your grandmother has a broken rib, but I'm glad they've discovered the source of her discomfort. And I so hope your dad's problems will be diagnosed soon. And of course, prayer for quick recovery, all to God's glory.
First of all - thank you for all your prayers, calls, thoughts, etc... they've meant a lot to our family.
Grandma had her surgery today and she's now in recovery - the doctors did not use general anesthesia - grandma's biggest fear - so the doctors expect her to recover soon. Her bones were extremely fragile, so the surgery took longer than expected, but the doctor told my uncles that he was able to do what he needed to put her knee together. We should be able to talk to her tomorrow, God willing.
My dad's exams show that he's fine except that he's extremely sore and just suffering the aftermath of the accident. He received most of the impact from the accident, so he's going to be sore for awhile.
The doctors thought they could release my mom today, but she is not feeling too well, so she's spending the night at the hospital and they'll see how she's doing tomorrow.
So glad your grandma made it through surgery so well. You'll feel better when you're actually able to talk with her. Also glad your dad's "just" sore; what a relief to have that confirmed! Hope your mom feels better tomorrow. Prayers continue.
What a scare. Your poor grandmother! I'm thankful she made it through her surgery and isn't still sitting anticipating!! We've been talking about your family's situation as we drive around here during the last couple days, and you've reminded us to be so thankful to God for our safety on the roads thus far.
Hi everyone,
first, thank you for your prayers - I wanted to give you an update on my parents' situations.
I just finished talking to my mom and she sounds OK. She can't talk too much because she's feeling quite tired, but she's feeling better than last night. Today, the doctors had to put a cast on her foot because she had a minor fraction. Also, she's now wearing a special vest because she had some kind of injury on her lower back, so the doctors want to make sure the situation doesn't worsen. However, I do feel much better after talking to her and hearing her voice. She also appreciates everyone's prayers.
My dad is finally at the ER as I type. He has been incredibly short of breath and got worse last night. So, this morning after seeing my mom and taking care of the car insurance and everything else that comes with that, he went to the ER at the same hospital where my mom is, and now they are running all kinds of tests to figure out what's causing the chest pressure and shortness of breath.
My grandma is quite scared of her surgery because she's never had a surgery. She really needs our prayers right now, especially for strength and comfort. I believe her surgery to reconstruct her knee has been moved from Wednesday to tomorrow morning, so I'll send more updates when I get them.
Once again, thank you for keeping us in your prayers!

Hello everyone!
Some of you might have already heard, but I just wanted to post the info. here and ask for your prayers for my family.
Yesterday afternoon, my dad, mom and grandma were traveling from Bogota to Ibague and had a very serious car accident. It took place on a stretch of road that is poorly built and very dangerous. It was raining, and there was oil spilled on the ground - my dad lost control of the car, but managed to avoid hitting other cars or falling off the side of the mountain. Both, the air bags and the seatbelts malfunctioned, so my mom hit the dashboard and broke her nose in such a way that it was crushed and kind of pushed into her head... she also suffered minor injuries to her foot and leg.
My dad received most of the impact, but God protected him and he didn't break anything. However, he's in a lot of pain and sore all over. He's been very concerned with my mom and hasn't been checked adequately, so hopefully, he'll do that tomorrow.
My grandma was in the backseat and after the impact, she was pinned between the back and front seat, so she suffered three different fractures to her knee - she's 92 years old and has never had a surgery... however, on Wednesday she'll have to undergo reconstructive surgery for her knee. She's also very sore and having some difficulty breathing.
The best reconstructive surgeon in the country was out of Colombia and only coming back on Wednesday, but my mom had to undergo surgery tonight to stop the bleeding and avoid infection. She just came out of surgery about an hour ago, and it seems like the doctor successfully stopped the bleeding and was able to reconstruct my mom's nose. We won't know for sure if she needs another surgery or not until the swelling has gone down.
As you can see, we are in dire need of your prayers - thanking God that they are all still alive (it could have been A LOT worse), and asking Him to continue watching over them as they recover and undergo more treatment.
I will try to send updates, but for now, just knowing that you'll be praying for us makes all the difference.
Oh dear!! We are so very sorry to hear this. We are definitely beginning to understand how good and safe most North American highways are compared to what is just normal in other countries. I will pray.
We heard about this while meeting and visiting with Aaron & Hilary on Sunday. Hope your family will recover in good time. It is so hard to be so far away at a time like this!
