Wow, that was fun!
It's been a while since I posted, and lots has happened. This past weekend, a bunch of us went to 1000 Voices in North Carolina, and it was awesome. Hope you all are well, and that God is continuing to bless you.
Hey! You posted! Are you having trouble reading all the backlogged blogs??? Your game sounds fun, but I do not have an iPod! Getting too old for new technology I guess!
Thank you! My mom was telling me about him. I just couldn't remember his name. Now, I hope that I'll remember. I'm hoping to go to 1,000 voices next year! It sounds so wonderful
Yup-- no discernible voice to speak of today. Slept poorly during the night because of the hurty throat, and awoke at the exact time I was supposed to be taking the two youngest to school. I feel like such a bad mom today-- had them eat a granola bar for breakfast on the golf cart. Moms aren't supposed to have sick days, but I sure tried to call out today.
Oh well... things eventually started looking up, and, at least Tad got to school on time! Plus, I am thankful to God that it isn't worse, and also for all of you who send up your prayers and good wishes. Thanks so much.
I found a craft blog or two (y'all would be so proud!) and worked on these this morning:
I thought they were so very cute, and was about to think of making another when my friendly neighborhood mailman knocked on my front door, carrying the best-boxed package I had seen in some time:
Inside was this:
Now, I haven't measured it to see if it's authentically to scale, but it sure is one cool looking representation of the Ark of the Covenant. I took it out of the box (it was in a plastic sheath and covered with tissue paper) and, upon unwrapping it, quickly discovered that it was upside down. I must admit I was hesitant to touch it, 'cause it didn't the staves in yet! I know, silly, but, still! Sadly, though, it came empty-- I was hoping to find some broken tablets or bits of manna inside. ;o) I know the boys will be excited to see it-- they got it with the proofs of purchase from their Indiana Jones dolls, and it is to scale for those dolls, but what a great toy, and I forsee many opportunities for teaching.
I hope you all are having a wonderful day-- mine is looking up since my sweetie called to say he was coming home today!
Oh, but this "toy" looks great! And you know, I got to thinking, perhaps you have met my "son" from Africa? Adam Kendall-Ball? I've known and loved him since he was a little tyke.
I'm sorry you are feeling icky. Cute bags, interesting box and my gracious, what a thingamabob that is!! Love you and really, really love you and want to see ya...
It's so good to see a post from you but I was so sorry to hear about your sore throat. When I get a raw, scratchy throat that even water hurts I take 4 500mg vitamin C with rose hips and a full glass of water. Then 1 every 15 minutes; or wait an hour and take 4 more...but if I feel too bad to anything but just lay around I just lay out 4 and take them over an hour's time. If this happens before lunch and I get a good headstart on the Vit. C before bedtime I wake up the next morning with no sore throat. But I know you'll take good care of yourself. Hope the camping goes well too.
I have some friends that just moved to Peachtree City. They have two dogs, and while they are temporarily living in an apartment they would like to know if there is a place in Peachtree city where they can take the dogs to run and play. Any tips? Thanks!
If you want to make it more authentic, here's an idea - as my mom always did, you can use mashed potato flakes for the manna and glue fake flowers to a stick for Aaron's rod that budded...and then cut out styrofoam in the shape of tablets and spray paint them gray :)
well let me tell you this you're no way a bad Mom You raised your kids up right, and If i have kids I would want them to be just as respectable to me as your kids are to you. now we're people and we get sick we're only human. know the ark thing that's pretty cool.
My hubby is, once again, down in Americus (oh, how I wish I could type TEXAS instead so that when I Wordle my blog the Texas would appear most boldly), so I am here with a pile of deconstructed jeans all over the floor, various school papers throughout the house, much to do tomorrow and a sore throat. It seems the boys' malady has taken a liking to my oropharynx, and I think I even had a little fever earlier-- when I should have been at Bible Study I was curled up under two blankets on the couch watching Andrew Zimmern eat pickled fried lampreys in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Now I'm not sleepy, but I know I should be.
I made Tad a little doo-dad to hang in his locker to store things-- like extra pencils, or cafeteria money, or whatever. It seemed like a nice way for him to have a little bit of Mom in his locker. The silver writing on the pencils are verses: Is. 40:31, Rom. 1:16, Prov. 18:24, and Phil. 4:13.
I hope you are able to get some rest and feel better soon...I have had an off again/on again sore throat for weeks...comes & goes one day here...one day there...
We headed out on the golf cart and got them all delivered. No hiccups except for a few nervous minutes for Nick, and Mrs. Fitch quickly took him in her arms and diverted his attention to cool third grade stuff. He is such a cool kid-- he was trying so hard to keep it together; I'm so proud of him.
Chipper got an extra hug and then secured himself in the center of the large group of his friends.
I'm so happy with their teachers! Nick has the same teacher that Tad had for third grade, and she is so wonderful-- she is strict and structured, but very gentle and loving-- she never raises her voice! Chipper's teacher is the one that Tad had for just six weeks when we moved here, and she's so happy to have him. The Parapro in that room is my very good friend Mrs. Morris. Our kids have been in Science Olympiad together, and she is an awesome lady.
Then we headed over to Booth to get Tad all settled, and, I must say that I feel better this morning. Meet the Teacher night left me feeling a little anxious because it seemed so chaotic, but this morning the teachers and administrators were EVERYWHERE with big smiles on their faces, and there was virtually no way for him to get lost. When we got to the cafeteria, about half the 6th graders were already seated and Mr. Plauche was already giving them information about lunch, so Tad just joined a group of kids and headed to a table-- that was it. I know he'll be fine and have a great, fun-filled day, but I am just left with these memories.
Then I walked outside for a minute and was quickly cured of my sentimentality by this:
Nick is a pretty neat kid, all your kids are. It makes a world of difference when you have a good teacher. I got a bad one, one time. It made for a horrible year!
I am so proud of them and I LOVED talking to 2/3rds of the Aggie crew... Love you oodles and most certainly did not say that word... lol... love you people, and if it would bring any of y'all out of a fast faint, I would say it... Yes, I would.
Oh, and not a bad day. Talked to YOU, got my house re-insured, tried to find the parts to get my dryer working so the ever growing mounds of laundry can get done, had a couple of banana flavored (yeah, you're right -- I don't like banana flavored ones. It was just hot enough to not care, lol.) pop-ice, talked to Connie Marek's son about the dreaded Prof. Hummel who is his Hist 1301 prof this fall, felt my son lay his head on my shoulder while I got that 'where has the time gone' feeling deep in my heart, noticed we still have tomatoes on our vines, decided I need to not be such an over-reactor, and kissed my baby daughter's forehead as she fell asleep. Yes, a good day, sweetheart.
I'm glad the boys had a good first day of school and that the week is going smoothly. I'm in agreement with Brian... it always seemed to work better for my kids when school started on a Thursday or Friday... 1-2 days for getting oriented with new arrangements, meeting old friends and making new friends, and then the weekend to get the stuff the teacher's wanted them to have (we didn't have published lists until late in my kid's schooling)... and when they got to high school there were no lists -- and that's still true.
School shopping-- done. Wow, with TQP in middle school, he sure needed a lot more stuff! NRP got dividers and real notebook paper-- so cool. CIP is one cool kid with dry erase markers and colored pencils! Plus, we love Office Max for sending us coupons. The two younger boys got their postcards from their teachers on Friday, and they are now so very excited. So is Momma, to say the least!
Just helped my dearest replace the lower weather stripping on the garage doors, because the old one was obviously no longer useful, as evidenced by the giant puddle of water under the golf cart charger.
Work Thursday and Friday was continued craziness. On Wednesday there was only one baby, and when Friday dawned we were up to ten. Friday included three circs, two admissions, four discharges, and no lunch. It was blissful to wake up to my own little world this morning, surrounded by people that love me regardless of my nursing skills. ;o)
Another little perk on this tax-free weekend: 200 sheets of pretty girly scrapbooking paper for $7. Yee-Haw. By the way, if you didn't know, no tax is weighed on ladies' undergarments in Georgia this weekend, either.
I am looking so forward to tomorrow; I love that we have a local family of believers with whom we can gather and collectively worship God. What a blessing it is to so freely be able to share one's faith and worship with so many others who feel the same. Thank you, Lord, for your grace and providence.
Yippie! I am so ready for the girls to start back to school on Monday. We had open house on Thurs. and by that evening, all of our school shopping was completed. We went to Walmart to get some dog food this afternoon and I was so thrilled to have my school shopping done when I saw all the swarms of people gathered around the supply isles.
Good thoughts. Was everything tax free? Well, within reason, I mean. A very tempting day for craft shopping, I'm sure! Wish we could do without tax for a couple of days. Ours is 19%!
We braved the crowd a little bit on Saturday, even though we didn't need any school supplies. I managed to pick up three GT t-shirts for $20, so now I can help support hubby's alma mater. His new job is from a company called Alum-A-Lift in Winston.
Your boys are so big and getting too old too fast! :) Wow! Your Friday sounded crazy! Maybe I should take advantage of our tax free weekends and look for some great deals like the ones you got! :)
Jason IM'd me the cost of the boys' school supplies -- call me tomorrow if you're not working. Don't know what I'll be doing... but it's 08/08/08 --- isn't that just the neatest, once in a lifetime thing!
