There are times in this life when you look at that verse and realize that "being still" is difficult. We look at the craziness around us, and get caught up in the trials of this world and forget to "be still", and forget to "know that I am God". I know I have. Things have really been crazy lately, and as a result, I've been "crazed"!! But, taking the time to stop, and be still, and reflect, and know that our God is in control, really helps. It helps us to remember that this life is only temporary; that the struggles in this life should remind us of what a better place we have waiting for us; that we should never become complacent.
So, if you read this, stop for a moment and "be still". Remember that He is God and He can do all things....even more than we can imagine.
Today was Area, and the band made finals. However, we are not one of the bands going on to State. But, I'm okay with that. Just making finals after the year we've had is very satisfying. For the third year in a row, we have a new head band director. We have a new color guard instructor; another new band director; and a director who is just in his second year here (Krista knows who that is!). Then, the eight days of no school because of the hurricane. Anyway, I just wanted to post about this and how very proud I am that our band made it to Area and then made Finals there. The kids were super excited to make finals.
Other than that, nice weather this weekend. Loving the cooler weather and the beautiful clear, blue skies. I love how blue the skies are during the Spring and after cool fronts move through in the Fall. They make me happy! :)
I love the high school bands. We spent nine happy years as band booster parents riding the bus to every away game and all those competitions--you're right about the fall sky!
Just a few random things. The band made a one on Tuesday, so we get to go to Area on Saturday. Hopefully, we will make finals there.
Dad arrived yesterday. He's trying out his new hydrogen fuel cell. Actually got 39 miles to the gallon on the trip out here. And yet he says he's aiming for 50 MPG! I would be more than happy with the 39! He went "dumpster diving" today. Hahahahaha! Long story....but it was at a place where he was looking for parts to make more of the fuel cells. A lot of people have shown interest in it. He's really put a lot of work into it.
Rob had to call India today. He actually ended up talking to one of the guys we met while there last year. You may not find this too terribly amazing, but I did. Rob is working with a different company now, and so is the guy in India! The guy recognized his name and said he recognized his voice as well. I'm just amazed at what a very small world we live in!
So, I was in line at the drive through at Starbucks today. There was a woman, with purple hair, in the vehicle in front of me. She had her hand out the window and was tapping her cigarette. It suddently dropped out of her hand and onto the ground beside her car. To my surprise, she opened the door of her car, leaned out, picked the cigarette up, and placed it in her mouth!!!! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Hasn't anyone ever told her how dirty the ground is?
This evening, we were getting ready to leave for our gospel meeting. I had Haylee and Madyson today. Kelsey had marching practice, and had changed into her skirt for worship services. Madyson came up to hug her, looked up at her and said "You smell like band!" It was so funny! I'm laughing right now just typing about it! So, evidently, "band" does not smell good!!
That's all for now.....been busy, been sick, been many things! :)
Life is short. We don't know how long we have on this earth. And lately, we've been reminded of that....a lot. Over the last six weeks, Kleinwood has lost three members. And tonight came the call, we've lost one more. This one, was very unexpected. Virgil Ray was refereeing a football game tonight when he collapsed on the field. He and his wife have been members at Kleinwood for many years. I think this particular loss has me grieving even more because of the unexpected nature of it.
Sunday evening, I looked over and saw him working the sound board. He looked fine. There are so many things I remember about him. One thing is, he always had a smile and a hello. Another, was his love for sports. Many years ago, a group of the guys at church played Fantasy Football. Virgil was one of the ones who participated. He really loved it. The league continued for a few years....until most of the guys got too busy with work and kids.
We may not know how long we'll be here; however, I know that Virgil was a good man and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Please remember Virgil and his family in your prayers this week.
