Opportunities 11-17-08 08:08pm PST

Some of the members of the Beaverton church visited the NW Medical Teams exhibit “Real Life” yesterday. It was an interesting exhibit, it showed many of the different medical missions that the NW Medical teams takes part in. It was very sad to see the Moldova burn center, the Mexican dump children, and AIDs children in Africa.    I was reminded how blessed we are. It also reminded me of the many opportunities we have to share some of our blessings, and how we are accountable if we don’t. I would be hesitant to give money to NW medical teams without knowing a lot more about them, specifically, how they deal with their “Bible clubs.” Nothing worse than to help someone into a false doctrine that will destroy their souls.  I thought the Invisible Children DVD we watched afterwards was also an eye opener to the suffering in Africa. The Ugandian society is such a sad mess. I would also be hesitant in sending money to the maker of this DVD, so what can we do?

There are some opportunities that are helping Christians and helping the lost find Christ and even helping feed people. Actually, there many opportunities:

We (Mark, Derek, myself) had lunch today with Guillermo at Reedville Café. Guillermo is planning on going to Mexico for 3 weeks. Anyone interested in helping could either help provide funds for him to travel, to buy bible materials and tracts, or to help poor Christians.

Another opportunity is to help send Oman Madrid to Guatemala. Omar and Victor are going this to South America this coming summer. And people could help with funds for him to travel, to buy bible materials and tracts, or to help poor Christians. I am sure that any funds sent would be put to good use.

We also have opportunities to support Christian widows and preachers in the Philippines. I came across this article recently: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,420101,00.html

1/3 of the population in the Philippines lives on less than $1/day. I think a preacher can be supported for $200/mth. I know Christians who support widows in the Philippines. Honestly, I think a lot of us could be doing a lot more if we simply choose to live different. I think a lot of us could even spare $100/mth or more. Maybe instead of a new car, a used car, and less expensive car, and use that extra $200-300/mth savings to save potentially 100’s of souls and help many others? Instead of a $200 gizmo or $300 IPhone, maybe a $30 mp3 player or $20 cellphone and use some of the savings for a good work.  My money won’t help me on the judgment day, nor my gadgets, car or my toys (1 Tim 6:6-21), they might actually condemn me. And realistically, I am not gunna make it to heaven unless I live a live completely different from the worldliness and luxury of our society. Something to think about. I think we often think that it is only the church's job to do this type work, not true, we as individual Christians are supposed to be busy about these type of things also.

We also can help in Africa via David Phillips and Alan Hicthen.  I sure there are widows who would love even $20/mth. I think if we looked a little we would also find more opportunities in India and China and just about everywhere (including here in the USA). We can support local preachers also.  So, perhaps consider budgeting some good works into your life.

Galatians 6:10 “10.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

Hebrew 16:13 “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”

robynbobmGood reminder.
spinningbeeI didn't know David Phillips was in Africa. Is Sara with him?
ryan_s^he went this summer, but it was only for a few weeks. I believe he will go again this coming summer.
beavermomThanks, Ryan! I think sometimes we want to help, but don't know where.
lifeisgooodGood ideas!
kikiI hope my dad never really has the urge to go out of the country. I'd miss him too much...so don't go getting ideas in his head haha : )

Chihuahua's don't help much 11-11-08 07:32pm PST

I am trying to install the Rosetta stone software tonight. the update patch seem to take almost a whole hour. As it turns out, I am baby sitting a Chihuahua tonight, but so far, it hasn't been much help with the Spanish? I am hoping to
learn Spanish, at least elementary Spanish, by next spring for door-to-door. We came across so many Spanish speakers. It will be a challenge to find the time as I am super busy with preacher training program and video projects, but the holidays will give me some free time to put into this.

P.S. It's my brother Russ' Chihuahua

spinningbeeall of a sudden I want Taco Bell really bad...
spinningbeeHey question for you... Regarding upcoming sermons in Otis, whenever you have time (doesn't need to be this month) I wouldn't mind a sermon along the lines of "How Can I Encourage My Brothers & Sisters in Christ" or "Spiritual Leadership". Something simple enough for the teenagers to understand - but something that also is discussion-provoking as well...

And I just wanted to take a minute to say THANKS for coming to encourage us in Otis every month. I've heard a lot of preachers (sometimes I joke that I'm a "Preacher Connoisseur") and you are as good as it gets. You don't have distracting mannerisms, or vocal patterns. You don't sniff or snort or chew on your glasses. You don't wave your hands around or pound the pulpit. You have what I call a "Bible on Tape" voice. There are very few preachers who I'd want to listen to read the Bible on tape. I don't get tired or irritated listening to you. You keep your sermons fluid, simple, and on-topic. You don't go on 20 minute tangents into nowhere. You don't spend 15 minutes dissecting Greek. I think it's great how you take a easy to understand book like the Bible, and present it in an easy to understand way. You don't make it over complicated, or dumb it down.

I'm impressed! Thanks again!!!
robynbobmhahaha, no I don't think they speak Spanish either, so chihuahuas aren't much help. :) Funny thought, though.
tayloranneI want one of those dogs! :)
lifeisgooodI can see you learning Spanish by spring. That's a good program.
beavermomPractise on Ish and Tif, or Omar, or Monique. su es bueno profesor!
robynbobmlol^. Don't practice with Mom, no es una buena profesora de Espanol.
lifeisgooodI'm really excited about writing the article for the Valley Times that you set up, Flyin'. I went online and found some of their old articles so I get a picture of what they like. I also saw the reason why they are allowing this. The paper is owned by the same guy who owns Christian Supply. Jeff Auxier has lunch with him on a regular basis. Did you RSVP to them that we would take those two openings and any others that surface? Thanks for using your know-how to find these opportunities.
ryan_s^Lori Brown brought up the idea and gave me a paper to look at. I think we are set. I set them an email asking how we could to this, and they gave us the two slots. I think we can easily get more too.
tayloranneOh yeah those are cute too!!
tayloranneI am back at Little Promises.Right now I am just oncall which means not much work.Things are really slow there right now so they don't need many workers. My boss told me though that when a better position opens up there(than just being oncall)she will let me know.

Montana 11-05-08 08:57pm PST
A little snow was coming down here, but not much. I’m in Glasgow, Montana tonight. I have a meeting and an inspection Thursday at Fort Peck dam for the refurb. of unit 2 generator rotor. I felt pretty good yesterday and the weekend, but today I seemed to have lost my voice, and this will make for an interesting meeting tomorrow. I’ve had a really mild sore throat, but not much else. I am going to bed early to get better. I was hoping to visit the little church of Christ in town to see who they are, but without my voice and not feeling too great, I thought it would be better stay at the motel. I had to make a phone call, it was funny trying to talk. I'm off to bed.
luvbnamomHope you feel better soon! It's no fun to be sick when you're away from home!
trekkiemomWow you get around! You were just here 24 hrs ago! :-) I sure hope you get to feeling better...try a little honey & lemon mix ...always does the trick for us. :-)
julievYuck. Traveling when sick is no good. Hope you get some rest and feel better soon.
lifeisgooodThe only herbal medicine we use is for a new sore throat. It's called Nutrabiotic grapefruit extract. It's available at nutrition centers and health food stores. Guess that doesn't do you much good this time around. Get well soon!
robynbobmHope you get your voice back!
jordanflyerGet better! have fun in Montana!?!?!
beavermomSlippery elm capsules will help too.I got a recipe from my voice teacher, who is a PhD. of all things related to the voice. Here it is: 1/4 tsp. ginger, 1/8-1/4 tsp cayenne pepper,1 Tbsp. honey, 1 tsp. lemon juice,Mix with enough hot water to make a gargle, and use twice a day. My girlfriend didn't read all the way through the directions, and DRANK it! lol! It didn't hurt her, and she got better really quickly!
juliev^^Yuck! :)
missybI hope watching the snow helps you to feel a little better. It is not fun being sick when you are away from home :(

Something cool. 10-19-08 03:15pm PST

A friend at the Corps of Engineers told me about something cool he found on
the internet: www.hulu.com

 http://www.hulu.com/browse/alphabetical/tv

It was apparently a joint venture between NBC and CBS. I am very impressed by
the fact you can watch old TV shows on-line. A lot of shows were before my time,
but I have seen on re-runs, like Buck Rogers, or Speed Racer. They have the A
Team, Battlestar Galatia, and many others, like the Three Stooges collection.
(but no Star Trek). And the steaming quality is awesome. You have to watch
commercials like regular tv. I actually hooked my laptop up to a TV and used the
TV screen to pay the show.

Some new shows are also on hulu too, like Heroes. They also have a few full
length movies.

Now a word of warning, they also have garbage shows and movies –“married with
children” “The family guy” etc. I won’t be surprised if some of the movies are R
rated either and full of bad stuff. So don’t allow yourself be pulled into
watching something evil. If in doubt, just don’t watch or check out the movie on
www.screenit.com.

nifferi like heroes minus some occasional stuff.that's cool.
nifferi've heard that song a couple times on pandora.
robynbobmCool
trekkiemomplugged in online is a good site too like screenit.

Gary Chapman 10-14-08 06:53pm PST

I have been listening to AOL radio stations http://music.aol.com/radioguide/bb  a lot and hearing new songs I hadn't heard before. One song I thought was very good was "Sweet Jesus" by Gary Chapman. There is live video for this song, but I cannot find it online on any legal site, only the illegal stuff on you-tube, but I did find a legal posting of the audio only on Gary Chapman's own myspace:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=312314208

Click on song 5 and enjoy.

luvbnamomI haven't heard that song in a long time, but I love it!
ryan_s^I think it is about 10 years old
