Wednesday (Nov. 12) was my birthday, and I expected it to be a pretty ordinary day. Nothing special had been planned (or so I thought). Before he left for work that morning, my husband asked if I wanted to meet him for lunch. Because it was Wednesday, we wouldn't have time to go out to dinner before Wednesday night services. Of course I said yes, looking forward to getting out for a nice lunch. I arrived a little early at the restaurant we had agreed upon, and was waiting inside for him. When he walked in, he was holding our grandson, and our daughter was right behind him! She had driven in from Houston for a special birthday surprise. Of course, I was thrilled! After lunch, they came home with us and then stayed for two nights. It was such a treat to spend time with them in the middle of the week. Later that afternoon, I received a beautiful floral arrangement from our son who lives in Georgia, and a "Happy Birthday" phone call from him that night. I can think of no greater gift than to see and hear from our children. They are such a blessing from God.
On Friday afternoon, some of the ladies from church left for a weekend getaway. We spent the night at a lodge in a beautiful country setting. We had so much fun laughing, talking, and getting to know each other better, and our bonds of friendship became stronger. It was the perfect ending to a special week.
I'm am sooo behind! First of all, thank you for the birthday greeting for me, and please accept my best, but belated Birthday wishes to YOU! Sounds like a wonderful day, the kind I love, too. Just being with the ones you love. The retreat looks like a lot of fun. You guys have my "cogs" turning!
Well, October was a beautiful month, but I really love the month of November. The fact that I was born in November may have something to do with it, but I think a lot of it has to do with the autumn weather. I really love it when we start having those misty, chilly autumn days. We had a few cold mornings in October, but now we are back to mild weather, with highs near 80 degrees. I'm ready for Fall!
Another thing I love about November is Thanksgiving. It is a time when families can get together and really enjoy each other without all the hustle and bustle that the Christmas holidays bring. I'm looking forward to being able to spend time with some members of our family that we don't see very often.
In the meantime, I am facing a very busy week. We'll have Ladies Bible Class here on Monday night, then I will help with the election on Tuesday. On Friday and Saturday, I am having a garage sale. I don't know how successful it will be, but I MUST rid my garage storage room of many items that I no longer use. I have spent several days going through and deciding what to keep, what to discard, and what to sell or donate. For me, it hasn't been a pleasant experience, but I know that I will be glad to have everything more organized. Hopefully after this week, I will have more time to enjoy the rest of November.
I was hoping you all could get here before the leaves all fell off, but we look forward to whenever you can come. Good luck on selling everything at your garage sale!
September has been such a busy month, I hardly remember everything that has happened. My mother had knee replacement surgery on Sept. 3rd and was in the hospital for six days. After that, she elected to go to the local nursing home for 2 weeks of therapy on her knee. Of course, this meant visiting her and seeing to her needs every day, so the days flew by.
In addition, I have been tutoring a middle school student for an hour and a half every other day. It's a good schedule, but it has really kept me busy in addition to my other obligations. Of course, Hurricane Ike certainly didn't help the situation!
It was really a good thing that Mother was in the nursing home during Ike's rampage because we lost electrical power for five days. She was well taken care of , and that was truly a blessing for us. We had no damage to our home, but we lost two trees, and our neighbors were so good to help with the clean up. We also lost most of our refrigerator/freezer food, but it can all be replaced. We were even blessed with cool weather during the time of the power outage, so we didn't even suffer from the heat.
We have so many things to be thankful for, and we were truly blessed in so many ways. Even though we were inconvenienced for a few days, we saw the value of friends, neighbors, and family (both earthly and spiritual) who were there in time of need.
Mother is home now and doing well. She will continue therapy at home, and she is determined to do everything she can to strengthen that knee. She lives very close to us and we see her daily. So, as September comes to an end, things are pretty much back to "normal". As we finish cleaning up the remains of Ike's damage, I pray that October will bring no new surprises!
The music was very good, we do the same thing each time we see commercials for The Phantom of the Opera, we have to get our cd out and listen! I have never been to Texas. Brian asked us what we waned to see, I told him to tell us what we NEED to see. I am hoping to study on it with Kathryn some before we come and see some things we can count as "school" while we are there.
glad you made it through the storm! Mom and Dad were at the lake during the storm. After we evaced there for Rita, wed deceided we should go a little furthur north! So we ended up in Mount Pleasant at some friends house. But the bamboo did fine!
It was so good meeting you too! You're such a kindred spirit and made me and my family feel very welcome. And I very much enjoyed meeting the extended family :)
Well, here he is...our precious little Nathan. These are the latest pics that we have of him, but I'm sure that we will get some more this weekend. Stanley, Aleisha, and Nathan are coming up for the weekend, so we're getting ready to have a lot of fun!
In the meantime, I have started tutoring at the local middle school every other day for an hour and a half. I'm tutoring one student and it's a great schedule for me. I plan to be there for at least the first semester, and then we'll see. By the way, thanks to my hubby for posting these pictures of Nathan...I don't know how!
Yes, I'm finally posting again. I've had a Pleo account for all of these months, but have been reluctant to actually begin communicating. I've been pressured lately, however, to take the plunge, so I'll see how it goes. I have been keeping up with a lot of my friends by reading their posts (I call it "lurking".) So, now for those of you who have been asking why I have been so silent, I am now venturing into the world of Pleonast.
