Finally, an UPDATE 09-18-08 04:52pm CST
Well, it has been a really busy 7 weeks since we arrived in Texas on August 1. We managed to put down a deposit on a house on August 1, it was the 2nd house we looked at (we are NOT overly picky people!) We moved in on August 14, and our shipment from the Czech Republic arrived on August 28. Nothing was lost or broken (ok, Ivana did break one glass while unpacking it).

We also have most of Ivana's papers in order:

* she received her Permanent Resident Card (green card)
* Social Security card (her application never got from point A to point B, so she had to reapply)
* Texas DL (she passed on her first try!)

The kids have all started school, and seem to be adjusting well. Anna is in the 5th Grade, and really likes all 3 of her teachers. Adela is in 2nd grade, and although she was bound and determined that she was NOT going to go to school, and even if she did, she WASN'T going to like it, this morning she ran from the car to the front door of the school because she was so excited about going. Sam is in Pre-K and loving it. He also has made good friends with her youngest daughter Rachel. They go together each week to the reading program at one of the local libraries.

Our work with the church on North Beach has been great. The folks there have been very welcoming, understanding of our special needs over the last several weeks, and helpful beyond belief. We're enjoying getting to know as many of the members there as quickly as we can. The kids are enjoying their Bible classes, Ivana is enjoying the adult class on Romans (taught by one of the elders), and I'm enjoying teaching the Theme of the Bible adult class.

Of course, we think about and miss the people we left behind in the Czech Republic (Ivana's family, the Christians there, and other friends), but we're also enjoying our new life here. Ivana gets to talk to her parents almost daily on Skype, which is a great help to her and to them.
mapgrayWe love having you guys as a part of our family!
mropoloShe's right!
chispaRachel keeps asking me how to say words in Czech...I'm not so good at that. Sam is going to have to teach her! We're sooo glad you guys are here!

Settling In 08-04-08 07:05am CST
We arrived at DFW early Friday morning after a slight delay with our connection in Atlanta due to stormy weather. Ivana went through "processing" at Atlanta with the Department of Homeland Security. This seems to have mostly been a matter of fingerprinting her with ink in addition to the digital fingerprints taken at the embassy in Prague. She has still not received her permanent resident card, so she has to keep carrying her passport. We're also waiting for her social security number, which is mainly important now so she can apply for a Texas driving license. Hopefully both of those documents will come soon.

We were with the church at North Beach yesterday for the first time. The folks there gave us a very warm welcome. We are looking forward to working with this fine group of Christins. As far as I know, there are not many conservative congregations in this part of north Fort Worth. Since this area is experiencing a lot of growth and expansion, I really believe there is a lot of potential for the Lord's Kingdom here.
rmillerWelcome Home!
mapgrayWe are so happy to have you and the family with us!
markrobertswelcome! so glad you're in the area!
rockymtnsloverGood for you. Time to get busy!
Continued blessings on your family.
simon_saysWelcome back to the States! Hope you and the congregation will make a big impact on the area.

There are probably tons of people there at N. Beach who I should know but don't remember them and several who I do remember but probably wouldn't recognize at all. :) I don't have much in the childhood memory department.
kregWelcome!!! And thanks for the gift!!
curmudgeonYou got off to a good start Sunday. It was a pleasure to meet your wife and children. I look forward to you figuring out just who I am ;-> Welcome to Texas!
steven_cuffleGlad you all made it here safely! I'm also glad to hear about the potential for the gospel! That's great news!
chispaWelcome! We're so glad you're here!
beckydI'm glad that y'all made it here safely- I know your folks are just tickled to have you so close!
nomesWelcome to North Beach and welcome back to Texas :)
sweet_texan_meganWe're so glad you're here! You have a lovely family :)
yellowroseWelcome!
simon_saysSo how are things going? Getting settled in?
markrobertsI fear that what they'll need first and most is a lot of boxes and preachers to stand over them and say a few words...

Going to Texas 07-20-08 10:19am CST
Well, specifically, the North Beach St. congregation in Fort Worth. The elders there have invited us to work with them, and we have accepted their invitation. Our first Sunday there will be August 3.

We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with the congregation in that growing area of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex.
polaramyThat's great news! Stacey and Heather are good friends of mine, and we get to visit the congregation for meetings and VBS a few times each year. (They're only 15 minutes from us.) I know your family will enjoy having you so nearby. Hope you have a good move!

(You surprised me with your quick comment on my post. I'd forgotten there was anyone more than a time zone or two away from me who might not be at services now.)
raifhausWe came from Fort Worth! :)
beckydThat's terrific!
kirbyj2I am sure it is a relief to find a new home.
chispaWe are excited to have you! Hannah can't wait to meet your daughters! I'm sure she'll love to meet your son also, she is just super excited about having more girls. :)
raifhausWe lived in River Oaks (just loved it to pieces - and especially loved having so many Christians w/in walking distance) and worshiped with the Castleberry congregation. In fact, the elders there first got David to think seriously about learning Spanish, none of us realizing what all that could lead to... and here we are, speaking Spanish every day. Of course, many still needing to be patiently taught in the FW area, but so nice to have so many already on the same team. Excited for you!
rmillerGreat news!
praguerCongrats on this phase of getting settled. Will miss seeing y'all at Kamenice, but I know you'll have new adventures in TX.
praguerOh, and I love the cheesy grin on Samuel, below! He was obviously having a miserable time. :)
mropologreat news... look forward to seeing you
pavlaŠťastnou cestu do nového domova!!! Mějte se krásně, bude nám smutno! Nováci

Trip to South Moravia 07-12-08 12:06pm CST
We just got home from a 3-day trip with the Lustyk family (from the congregation in Litomyšl) to far Southern Moravia. We managed to see an amazing number of things in the time we were there including the Baťa Canal. Here are some photos of the kids on our boat ride on the Canal, which was a big highlight of the trip for them.

mropoloI love the TXI hat : )
beckydMy goodness! Samuel has gotten SO big! I guess I froze him in my mind as a little baby- he's a little boy now! Nice pictures!
raifhausVery nice. I'm glad your children are old enough to remember these days well!
Yes, Jeff is my dad.
simon_saysGreat pictures!
