We're having a garage sale.
Elijah is having his first boy scout camp out.

It's raining
texasboyI know why did it have to rain the day after I washed my car on the day it was 110 degrees...Texas blah lol I still love Texas.
my3sonshope you make some extra cash $$! Elijah will have a great time!
sharonI thought you were having a garage sale today, but then I saw you driving around on my donut run :) Hope the drizzle doesn't keep too many away!
mladymanGood luck! Hope you make a bundle -- or at least enough to make it worth your while.
sharonLogan has been asking and asking for Elijah to come over and play again. I keep telling him Elijah is in school. If there's ever a day where he's not doing anything for a while, give us a call!
sharonI got around 6 1/2, and split most of them up, so around 11 or 12 meals. Which reminds me, I have a chocolate pecan pie in the fridge I need to get to baking...mmmmm....
meditationisHow's Precious doing?
marmee1965Mitchel took them this morning.
basil60It's finally raining here too!
beckydI enjoyed getting to visit with you last night!
txwhittlecThanks for your warm hospitality last Sat. We had a great time! :)
hollyhawkHi, Sylvia. This is Holly Gerber, Can I put you on my friend's list & type to you? I like your picture of your cat! hope to ttyl!
sweetie2heyy! it's been awhile!
cyber_space_cadetHi, you don't know me, but I'm a friend of Sarah's. She mentioned to me at lunch today that I needed to come over to your blog and see the video of your son being "towed" by Precious, but I couldn't find it. If you don't mind my checking it out, could you tell me where I might find this little gem? :) Thanks in advance!
megsIt was nice to finally meet you today! Hope you had a safe trip back home!
my3sonscan i be on your friends list? I just realized you went gold!
didowI'm glad you were able to put it all together. It's nice to hear that someone else will get some benefit from them.
marksdenaThanks for the birthday cupcake!!!!! Hope you're doing great!
Gods_Country_GirlYay for Yard Sales! :D
singandbehappyhappy birthday!
laughing_eyesHappy Birthday!
adam_mHow is Derek?
lethaSylvia, it was so good to get your message. I keep up with you pretty well through Kay and Becca. I'm still in Palestine, of course, and at Eastside. Kurt Martin is preaching here. I guess your children are all grown. I can't believe you have been gone so long. Give my love to Mark and the kiddos.
rebeccaHaha.. I saw your post on Kimberly's blog about Jen and Katy.. it's one of my fondest memories of when they would come over after church and would each take a turn singing for me, and then ask which was a better singer! :) (I always said they both sounded good.. 'cause they did) :)

Wow 07-27-07 08:14am CST
Jennifer decided to paint my room for my birthday. Yesterday we went to Lowes to pick out paint. We picked a navy for an accent wall and a light blue in the same color family for the other walls. The baseboards, doors and trim are an off white. She taped and painted all day and got it all done. She only took 2 very short breaks.

We have her boys over for a play date. We are making clubs, reading books, riding cars, stacking cups and generally rearanging the den.

Oh, I think it's diaper changing time.
mladymanWow! It sounds beautiful! What a wonderful daughter! Um, Jennifer, MY 50th birthday is coming up next month..........hint! hint!
my3sonsthat is the kind of present I like...love the colors!
marmee1965Your room looks really good!
sharonDid you get that bad diaper I was on the lookout for? Thanks again for watching the boys! I know they both had fun, even if somebody put his shoes on. That is so funny!
sharonOh, and that is funny about him trying to hide Elijah in the closet. For some reason he is obsessed with closets. He goes in mine whenever I'm getting ready, and makes me close the door. With the light off.
sharonAnd I really like your room. Especially that dark wall. I hope Mark likes it, too!
sharonOr better yet, with no fences and hundreds of acres!
marmee1965Thanks!
annePictures, please!
bbeasleyHi! I happened across your blog randomly and just had to laugh at the blog picture of your cat. Too funny!
dottiHi Sylvia
hollyhawkSylvia? this is Holly Gerber! Remember me?? I kinda found you on from a different site. I hope that's okay?!? How r u?? How's the kids?? I'm miss them so much. I've missed you since singing school!! I'm on pleonast now and I'm under the name "hollyhawk". I'd sure love to talk to you!

Corpus Christi 06-14-07 05:38pm CST
Just got home from a trip to Corpus to help a HeadStart program with their self assessment. No, I missed the beach. I didn't even leave the hotel except to spend 2 days with the nutrition coordinator. We went around to a bunch of head Start centers. I spent the evenings writing reports. I took snacks to eat for supper and they had a good breakfast at the hotel.

I came home today exhausted. First Jen suggested a walk, so we did a nice mile around the neighborhood. As we walked she discussed occupational therapy for muscles. I suggested that she experiment on me. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz It was really relaxing. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

************************************************************
Well, I took the plunge and bought a new Bible. My NKJ has been falling apart for years, but I kept putting off getting a new one until I knew which one I wanted. thanks to your great advice I got an ESV which also has several good maps and 2 types of concordances. One lists people etc. Thanks for your help.
anneSince our move to Seminole in September, I am still wondering where some items went. Have you seen the magnet hooks that go on the side of the refrigerator, where I hang my apron???
mladymanLooking forward to seeing you Saturday! Are you going swimming, or will you do the "movie star by the side of the pool" thing?
sharonI bet you are whooped. That sounds like a long couple of days!
sarahmonkeywe're headed up to Waxahachie for our family reunion this weekend and will hopefully see you at services Sunday morning!!!
my3sonsI love my esv...congrats on getting a new sword!
sarahmonkeywould you mind sending me service times and directions to your congregation (it's been 2 yrs. and I don't remember!)? we'll be coming from the lakeview campground in waxahachie. you can send them to sarah.lyon@stewart.com - thank you SO much!
benbHappy birthday! I miss you all. Do you have any plans to come to FL soon? I won't make it to Singing School this year; I'm working in PA until Joseph's wedding. Anyway, have a great day!
sildaeHappy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!
jesspicoHappy birthday!!! Hope it was wonderful:)
jandamillersylvia - i didn't get a chance to tell you happy birthday on Sunday. i'm so sorry! i was feeling so bad and was soooo focused on just getting through teaching the class! I hope you had a great birthday!
mirrorjranch^Hey, I heard it's your birthday :)

I always have mixed feelings when I buy a new Bible. I hate to lose my old ones with all my notes and cross-references. But I love new books!

So how do you know Sharon? I just know her from Pleonast. And how do you know Martha? I used to worship with her in Austin, when her kids were babies.
my_own_authorityI am an anrchist!
mirrorjranchI live in West Texas, almost 2 hours south of Abilene.

CLICK ON THE PICTURES TO MAKE THEM BIG.

Mark and I protested the almost doubling of the property value of the strip of property that we purchased 4 years ago to give a little cushion to our property. They agreed with us and droped it below last years rate back to what we originally paid for it.
Fivers......Oh ......Yea
neenoutGreat pictures! Thanks for your comments about the video. I know it meant a lot that you all did that for him. We love you all!
mandcthorntonI love to look at pictures. I need to add some to mine.
anneIsn't it nice when government listens?!
sharonGreat pictures! I just now realized why he only had one shoe (fetch the flip flop). I bet he is having loads of fun this summer.
anneIt's 3 hours and 15 minutes from our house to their (in the hills south of Abilene.)
mladymanLOVED the pictures! Thanks for sharing! Looks like Elijah is having a busy summer!
meditationisI absolutely love the pictures of Elijah and Precious. It looks like she has gotten really long in the leg, just like her big brothers. :-)
sharonOr maybe I just shouldn't get out of the car! ;)
marmee1965yeah-I had my mom "fix" my hair. I had it cut at the salon in Wal-Mart but it wasn't looking very good. I think she tried to scalp me :) But as she says "it's only hair, it'll grow". :)
my3sonsWow! You go Elijah! I know you and Mark are VERY proud of him!
diannesOk what is Webelos 2?
marmee1965Yea-my mom was supposed to cut it but we ran out of time. She's needs a trim for the straggly hairs :)
el_magnificoran across you on her blog. I didn't know there was a Webelos 2. When I bridged over, I was met on the other side by the scoutmaster of the troop I had decided to join. I guess at that point I wasn't technically anything, because I hadn't earned the first rank in boy scouts (also called Boy Scout). Do you know if it's a new thing?
el_magnificooh, ok. Just curious, I was in Scouts from Tiger Cubs all the way to Eagle Scout.
sharonNo, he didn't tell me that (but you know a Dad's priorities). Which reminds me, I think we may have finally corrected Logan's counting problem.

I didn't realize you had to be so old to be a boy scout. Don't worry, I'll keep calling Elijah one anyway, unless he corrects me.
anneThank you. I'm looking forward to working up our flower beds, hopefully in the fall, and using the stepping stones in them.
bbeasleyThank you for joining NT_Chistians.
bbeasleywiskers?? That's funny. I couldn't help but laugh at her when I saw, but of course I had to take them away for a while.
basil60Hey, what can you tell me about Flax seed? I've heard good things about it. I bought some and am using it on my morning oatmeal. Okay to use it on other stuff?
marmee1965Not really-the only thing I'm worried about is the fact that she does wake up a couple times during the night wanting a drink of juice.
sharonHope you guys had a good weekend.
basil60Thank you so much for the info! I bought some whole seeds, in the organic section of the store. I've been putting it, not only on my oatmeal, but on vegetables, salads, etc. Hope that's okay.

So....what is your favorite translation of the Bible?

Why?
**************************************************************
Several of you have mentioned the ESV. I really don't know much about that one. Can you fill me in on why you chose it? Is it easier to read, more accurate, etc?
(13 older comments)
marmee1965Ok-yeah I don't know what's up with the website. Hopefully Mitchel can fix it when he gets home.
mladymanDavid says he's heard of the ESV, but doesn't know anything about it.
marmee1965Thanks!
anneGodly families are a WONDERFUL blessing!
sharonYou probably drove right along with it!
sharonInventive teaching methods stick with ya!
wberkI'm using the ESV more and more; like the readability. Mark Roberts is the "go to guy" about the ESV. He has made the switch and has written some about it.
sharonso-so. I had J drive me to CH so we could get the boys some dress clothes (for wedding + church), fabric, a couple maternity things, etc. I am wore out, but it had to be done. J hated JoAnns. He told me he would rather watch the 3 hour A&E version of P&P. Logan is good though, because he helps me pick out pretty fabric and such. He has good taste.
meditationisAm assuming Precious is going to become non-reproducing?
markrobertsI use the ESV. It is very impressive. Most people “test” a translation by checking a few verses like Acts 2:38 and James 2:24. If those aren’t mangled then we check for read-ability. Most people assume the easier a Bible is to read and understand the better it is. However, this isn’t really the best way to buy a Bible. The first test of a Bible is the Publisher’s Preface. There you’ll read the translation philosophy used in that Bible. There are two basic kinds: dynamic equivalence and literal or word-for-word translations. Dynamic equivalence translations attempt to give the thought of the original writer. Depending on how radical they take that you can get versions that are very contemporary, really easy to read and miles from what the Bible actually says. The NIV is the most widely used dyn equivalent translation. For a dyn equiv translation it is pretty careful but I think most Bible students want nothing to do with a dyn equiv Bible. I don’t want anyone to tell me the thought of the Bible writer – what if the translator gets it wrong? Basically he is inserting his interpretation into the text!
markrobertsIs the ESV perfect? Of course not. Can you find some verses in it that you don’t like how they are translated? Yep, you can. Just like with the NASB or NKJV or the NIV or any other translation. The overall quality, the translation philisophy, the commitment to readability AND faithfulness - it’s a great translation and I enjoy reading it and recommending it.
markrobertsread more here: http://www.justchristians.com/abundantLife/102006/ 3.html
markrobertsand here is more on the troubles with a dyn equiv Bible (especially the NIV): http://www.justchristians.com/abundantLife/012007/ 1.html
markrobertsfinally, I've been accused of "bashing the Bible." That's not the case by any means. I believe a person can learn the truth from the NIV, NLT or many other Bibles out there. I think a person could probably learn the truth with the Jehovah's Witnesses New World Translation! The Bible is that powerful. I don't ever want to say to someone "your Bible is no good." that's not the case at all - the question "is which Bible should I buy?" or "which Bible is the most faithful translation?" not "do I have to throw my Bible away?" DON'T THROW OUT YOUR NIV, Living Bible, New World Transl etc.! Just recognize them for what they are and get the benefit from them you can. But if you want a literal word-for-word translation to get the benefits that come from that you'll need an NASB, NKJV or ESV.
markrobertssorry for so many posts. hope this helps.
gallatinrealtorI like the NIV. Some people I have a lot of respect like the ESV that was just mentioned.
gallatinrealtorTo answer your question about the movie. It is about a firefighter and is firehouse.
markrobertsthey make a paperback ESV for around five bucks. I highly recommend a person get an inexpensive Bible before going "whole hog" with a new translation. But I do say about the ESV - try it you'll like it!
wberkMore on ESV in Polsum bulletin today: paste this into browser: http://www.folsomchurch.com/View_2007/The%20View%2 006032007.pdf
mandcthorntonHi Sylvia. Thank you for your comments. I am finding that this is a common problem in organized sports. I don't know why I let it bother me so much. Most of the parents are great but there are just a couple that aide in ruining. I am going to try to focus on the positive.
mandcthorntonMy husband likes the ESV. He preaches sometimes from ESV and sometimes NKJV.
marmee1965Thanks!
marmee1965Um-no. :) This was be lazy day after the trip in order to get everything done tomorrow. :)
teathymeI really like the ESV too. I have found it to be fairly accurate, in my own opinion, and I just like the way that it reads. My favorite translation was the NASV before finding the ESV and they are not dissimilar. Still, nothing beats the KJV for poetic beauty.
