I love the Peanuts holiday specials but always seem to miss them when they air...or do they even air them anymore? They're all on DVD now, I'm sure. Oh well. I'm assuming we'll be seeing you at Thanksgiving around these parts. (that's an invitation, although you don't need one anymore.)
Welp, the election is FINALLY over...does it seem like it's been going on for about 8 years to anyone else?
Obama is now the President (elect) and, I gotta say, America still seems pretty much in one piece. And for some reason, I'm not as concerned as I thought I would be.
Maybe it's the fact that I, as a Christian, realize that whatever happens here on Earth or in the United States, my citizenship is not here. The most that I can ask is that the Government leave me alone, promote peace, and allow an environment that is fertile for the Gospel. Contrary to popular belief, Peace, not persecution, is when the Gospel can spread effectively.
I know in part, it's that I don't think Obama will be able to do all that he has promised...and that his foriegn policy has the potential to be massively better than the War Hawks who have been in power. I mean, good grief it was like Clay and Calhoun all over again...
Who knows, maybe his victory and the Republican's defeat will spark new interest in Liberty and the Constitution. Perhaps a new Liberty Party will be created. At the very least the Republicans have to realize that the neo-conservative movement that has taken over the GOP has to be flushed.
He's definitely a charmer. I think a lot of Christians were pretty fearful of Obama winning, and I think most of us forgot about how much it does not matter in the long run. You need to get started on that Liberty Party...
It's hard to recognize Republicans anymore, pretty much. I really was not stressed about the election, all I heard were comments people made, worrying about what was going to happen if Obama won. I watched his speech, was impressed, and went to bed (actually I crashed since I'd been with Jonah on that field trip to Bear Creek), sleeping peacefully knowing that everything is God's hands anyway, no matter what the outcome. I'm still praying for Obama and the rest of the government, of course. I'm just not fearful.
School is going well, and the end of the semester is quickly approaching.

Now, to the matter at hand.
Going into election day, I'm sure that most of us have thought long and hard about who we are going to vote for, and pretty much had our minds made up at the outset. Just a couple of quotes to keep in mind as you step into that voting booth:
Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.
John Quincy Adams
I can never join with my voice in the toast which I see in the papers attributed to one of our gallant naval heroes. I cannot ask of heaven success, even for my country, in a cause where she should be in the wrong. Fiat justitia, pereat coelum. My toast would be, may our country always be successful, but whether successful or otherwise, always right.
John Quincy Adams
And now, friends and countrymen, if the wise and learned philosophers of the elder world, the first observers of nutation and aberration, the discoverers of maddening ether and invisible planets, the inventors of Congreve rockets and shrapnel shells, should find their hearts disposed to enquire what has America done for the benefit of mankind? Let our answer be this: America, with the same voice which spoke herself into existence as a nation, proclaimed to mankind the inextinguishable rights of human nature, and the only lawful foundations of government.
John Quincy Adams
We are all Republicans — we are all Federalists. If there be any among us who would wish to dissolve this Union or to change its republican form, let them stand undisturbed as monuments of the safety with which error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it.
Thomas Jefferson
Equal and exact justice to all men, of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political; peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none...Freedom of religion; freedom of the press, and freedom of person under the protection of the habeus corpus, and trial by juries impartially selected. These principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us, and guided our steps through an age of revolution and reformation. The wisdom of our sages and the blood of our heroes have been devoted to their attainment. They should be the creed of our political faith, the text of civil instruction, the touchstone by which we try the services of those we trust; and should we wander from them in moments of error or alarm, let us hasten to retrace our steps and to regain the road which alone leads to peace, liberty, and safety.
Thomas Jefferson
As long as our government is administered for the good of the people, and is regulated by their will; as long as it secures to us the rights of persons and of property, liberty of conscience, and of the press, it will be worth defending.
Andrew Jackson
It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their selfish purposes. Distinctions in society will always exist under every just government. Equality of talents, of education, or of wealth can not be produced by human institutions. In the full enjoyment of the gifts of Heaven and the fruits of superior industry, economy, and virtue, every man is equally entitled to protection by law; but when the laws undertake to add to these natural and just advantages artificial distinctions, to grant titles, gratuities, and exclusive privileges, to make the rich richer and the potent more powerful, the humble members of society — the farmers, mechanics, and laborers — who have neither the time nor the means of securing like favors to themselves, have a right to complain of the injustice of their government. There are no necessary evils in government. Its evils exist only in its abuses. If it would confine itself to equal protection, and, as Heaven does its rains, shower its favors alike on the high and the low, the rich and the poor, it would be an unqualified blessing.
Andrew Jackson
But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing.
Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.

It is great comedy to hear the secular, pro-gay left, so hostile to states’ rights in virtually every instance, suddenly discover the tyranny of centralized government. The newly minted protectors of local rule find themselves demanding: “Why should Washington dictate marriage standards for Massachusetts and California? Let the people of those states decide for themselves.” This is precisely the argument conservatives and libertarians have been making for decades! Why should Washington dictate education, abortion, environment, and labor rules to the states? The American people hold widely diverse views on virtually all political matters, and the Founders wanted the various state governments to most accurately reflect those views. This is the significance of the 10th Amendment, which the left in particular has abused for decades.

"I have to tell you, you know, it's part of reporting this case, this election, the feeling most people get when they hear Barack Obama's speech. My, I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often...and that's an objective assessment." - Chris Matthews, Accepting Obama as His Personal Savior, February, 12, 2008
I actually read, understood, and agreed with those. Usually I can't comprehend anything remotely related to politics. Granted, I usually don't even try...
I don't know yet, but I better figure it out cause I'm voting Friday or Saturday. I just feel like I have to choose the lesser of the two evils, because I don't want to throw away a vote.
Congrats on the coaching job! That's awesome! ALmost as awesome as the news that Alabama is #1!! Roll Tide!! (seriously your job is a bigger deal. Really. ;)
