We finally have a smattering (is that a word?) for rain. I wish it were coming down in sheets right now but I'm happy with what the Lord sent us. I know our county is discussing mandatory water restrictions today. We'll see what happens with that.
Not a lot going on. I'm heading into work to set up shelves for Christmas box cards. Yes, you read it right. Hallmark's bright idea to bring the box cards out in August this year. And, since I'm the only official "Hallmark" lady in the store. It will be my job to set all 20 feet of it! Yippee! The others that work there have never been taught to do what I do and seem to disappear or get suddenly busy when I try to teach them. I really hope I'm not hurting by the end of the day. See why I want an office job? LOL
I'll go read for a few more minutes and build up my strength. :) Have a great day, everyone.
Just looked at the radar and it looks like lots and lots of rain may be coming our way! YIPPEE!!!
You sure that wasn't a smidgeon of rain? You are going to be so sick of Christmas by the end of October. Funny how all the stand-arounders are suddenly busy with so much work, they can't stop to help. People. I'm just getting a couple more things ready for my class tonight. Need to go see if Pickles the Mantis is still on my plant. I don't think it's big enough to divide yet, so I'll just have to check the nursery's to see if they have any, or is that a spring planted plant?
You know what's funny? The county voted for mandatory water restrictions yesterday and today we've just about been washed away! Did I tell you lately that I hate Hallmark?....
20'? My 20' is more like 35ft and NO! It's hard to set shelves when I have to stop every 2 minutes to wait on a customer, help with FedEx and UPS deliveries, and help an incompetent employee that still can't run the cash register after almost 3 months! Yeah, it was a good idea to have the manager work two different stores....I'm not trying to complain. I'm just tired and aching...I like my job. Just get me some people that know how to work!
^^^So sorry to hear that...we have those kind here too. Setting up new mods as well as displays are a true pain! How many days do you work? Get some rest.
Still waiting for some rain to show up. Hopefully, in a day or two we will see some. My poor plants are so stressed it isn't funny. My flower gardens are going to get a good working over this fall and spring. Anyone want some free perennials? Can anyone tell me why I have roses that won't bloom? I think I pruned them improperly.
This it the last week of freedom for the girls before school starts. It's not freedom for me with work, sports physicals, freshman orientation, etc. But, it always gets done. I know they're both excited for it to start. Leah already has more friends than she knows what to do with because of marching band. Thank goodness for texting, myspace, facebook, etc. because how would she ever keep up with them? They can't seem to pick up a phone and call anyone! No one that age can pick up a phone and call! We're looking forward to her first game on Sept 5.
Lauren is concerned about the extra work she's going to have to do being in the Honors Institute. She's a smart kid and I know she'll do fine. It's a struggle for me working with her on her time management. She's a BIG procrastinator which drives me crazy! I'm continually working on it with her but it just doesn't seem to be sinking in at times and it's frustrating. I know it will click one day. But in the meantime, I'm pulling my hair out....Lauren have you practiced your piano...No...Lauren have your read your book...No....Lauren have you finished your reading project.....No, I was going to....I was going to is her answer for everything. lol
School for me starts Sept. 9 and only goes for a month on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. I'm looking forward to it, actually. Although, it's been MANY years since I was in any kind of classroom setting.
I fear hours are going to pick up for me again at work. My store manager is also going to be managing/overseeing another store in the area. Poor fella...I really hope he hits them good about a raise. He's already asked me to be available. We'll see how that goes. I'm ready for another vacation. A week at the beach this summer just wasn't enough!
You've had more vacation than I have. The boys start their classes today. Andrew has one, and I'm not sure if Nate has one or two. I guess kids think cell phones aren't for calling people, just texting ;) Glad she has some friends before school starts. Is Libby going to the same school? Lauren has a procrastinating cousin, so it must be in the genes. Don't have any suggestions of help there other than maybe stop reminding her and letting her suffer the consequences if she doesn't get it done. (It's hard to do, I know)
Yes. Libby and Leah are at the same school. Johnathen and Lauren are too. If Lauren doesn't straighten up soon, the consequences she receives will be from me!
I was the biggest procrastinator in the world during school. I'd stay up until all hours of the night finishing papers and projects and somehow I managed to make it through honors classes and graduate pretty high in my class. My parents eventually figured out that I was procrastinating no matter what they did or said to make me be otherwise, and I knew I had to pay for the consequences on my own, too. Hard lesson to learn, but I eventually did.
HAHA, i still put things off. Freshman year I pulled an all nighter to finish my paper for my seminar. It was pretty awesome. Everything is hilarious at 7AM!
Busy, busy girls. It's nice your schools start later in Aug. I procrastinate about some things and others I get done right away. It's an evil beast. What classes are you taking?
We attended the band parent potluck last night and of course, had to endure all the begging for money, the begging for volunteers, the begging...well, just a lot of begging. John and I stood firm and didn't join anything! Maybe next year. :)
We also got to see the band perform and I must say, they were very good for what little time they've had together. Leah is going to make a good little marcher! They certainly don't march like I did when I was in band. They put on more of a show and I think when they get it all together, it's going to look awesome from the stands. They are performing music from The Mummy and all the formations are Eqyptian symbols. I thought it was very good and Leah has already made many new friends that I'm sure will be texting, IMing, blogging, My Spacing, etc, etc, etc. A few of the senior girls have kinda taken her under the wing and I think that is making things a little easier for her. It was fun reliving the high school years again last night.
No coffee. No birds. No anything! I think some band parents potluck food is not agreeing with me. I'm one sick little gal right now and trying to figure out how to go to work without spewing all over the cards! Eeeewwww, not a pleasant visual, I know.
sorry you're feeling like you could blow/spew. That is cool the band is doing Mummy sountrack music and formations. I still dream I'm on the field marching and counting steps before a turn or something dumb! I had 1-2 seniors and a junior from band that were so sweet to help me fit in and feel part of the group. I'll keep praying that Leah will easily adjust to all the changes high school brings. Potlucks should come with a sign saying,"Eat at your own risk!"
Guess what I found out! According to an official Crepe Myrtle site, they are suppose to be able to grow up here!!!!!! You know what I'm wanting to plant next spring...
My birds, coffee, and a delicious biscotti...wonderful start to the day. Nice cool breeze blowing. I wish we could get some rain, though. My grass is beginning to sound like corn flakes when you walk on it! We were hoping Fay would come up this way but she's going elsewhere. :(
We haven't had any rain for a while, but with all the rain earlier in the year everything is still nice and green. I'm just waiting to see if the corn is going to start bothering me again, so far so good.
Had a freak storm yesterday with lots of good rain....our lawn was similar so I hope it helps. Jim made coffee before leaving to have van fixed so I'm headed for it now.
Wow! Look who finally joined us?! Great "seeing" you here! Thanks for your card...you're sweet to take time to send one. We sure miss everyone. It's been a rough year so far!
What more do I need to say? I don't normally have problems waking in the mornings but the achy body doesn't want to cooperate this morning! Still running through my head what all needs to be done today. Orientation for Lauren tonight. Her biggest concern is, can I open my locker! LOL Since she is in the Honors Institute, I'm not sure how her classes are going to be arranged. Band camp kicks in to high gear today for Leah. I'm sure she will be a tired little girl this week. I'm taking some evening classes in a couple of weeks, providing the classes aren't cancelled. I want to learn the office applications for Microsoft. I'm sure I could probably play around with it myself and learn but I think a class will be better. I would like to say good-bye to Hallmark and work my way back into office work, eventually. It's been 20 some years since I've worked in an office and I'm just not marketable anymore, I'm afraid. I can do the job but it's hard to convey that on a resume.
I hear you about the office work; I know the MS applications pretty well and agree about doing it via classes, it's more thorough. For me, carpel tunnel is affecting my typing and writing now. I would like to finish that last humanities class and finally get my college diploma.....before I'm 50.
The Microsoft classes will be good. They will show you a lot of shortcuts that you won't get just playing around with them. I'm sure you'd be able to find an office job with no problem.
