So right now I type in absolute solace. This is a first, a first of being home alone in this house. Silent? Yes. Eerie? No. No sweet interuptions unless to my choosing. My little darlings are off to Disney World with my parents, camping in, yes, a real tent.
So it's just the 2 of us again, and this hasn't happened in 4 years. Heading off with my love to Savannah tomorrow to celebrate 7 years(and to avoid the 7 year itch!)
I'M JEALOUS!!! But, my "7 year itch" isn't until next year. Too bad I'll have a brand new baby and will be in more desperate need to get away with my husband!
Congratulations on 7 years! Wow!! Enjoy the trip!! As far as "get-aways", we only go to Disney destinations. That is what I get for marrying a man obsessed with the Mouse and his house.
Karys told me that she didn't smile in her picture so I got a little worried that I wouldn't want to buy it, but I was VERY happy with how it turned out. Too bad I don't like the photographer that they used as your only choice is to buy the 11x14...for $24! You have to buy a picture package in order to get the 5x7. No thanks.
Hey Steph...can't believe it has been 7 years....Jeremy and I want to do something special next summer, too, for our seventh anniversary. Savannah is WONDERFUL! So beautiful and rich in history. Did you eat at Lady and Sons? Country cooking from down south! I miss you! Sorry I haven't been on here for ever!
Well officially, anyways. This is my favorite season (in Chicago) and when I also get the most "homesick" being here in Florida. I love this season so much I tried planning my wedding in October, outside. I crave the colors on the trees, the burnt smell in the air, the hot cups of cider stinging my nose, the crunch beneath my feet, and of course, layering up those sweaters. While the season change is more discreet here in north central Florida, I am learning to sleuth out the changes and appreciate what is surrounding me.
What are some of your favorite things of Fall? (besides the halloween candy :)
the cool twilight period, and when the kids were younger, the earlier evenings (going to bed in daylight wasn't fun for any of us). I also enjoy the anticipation of the upcoming seasons and the way the guys are eager to talk to each other again.
I was looking at my sweaters yesterday wondering when I was going to wear them. We got married in October too!!!! It was like 90 the day we got married though.
simmering cinnamon on the stove. it reminds me of my mom. and candy corn! i have to have those little pumpkin ones every year for some reason. fall is our favorite too. kent and i tried to plan our wedding for may but scrapped it sept. 27 because fall just felt right. got married november 9 outside in north alabama. the leaves were swirling...magical. come by anytime girl. we're usually here!
I LOVE fall! It's not quite the same here as a New York fall or north fall, but it'll do! I agree with everything (except the hot cider, yuck) and I'm like Megan, I have to have the pumpkin candy corn too. Also, a cinnamon broom from Publix completes it for me. I can smell them when I go into Publix but I refuse to buy one until October when it's a little bit cooler. :)
I got so excited the other morning when I was out early and it was cool. The heat didn't feel like it was about to consume me. My favorite things...Socks, knowing Christmas is around the corner, cool breezes, and the changing of the leaves (obviously an out of state thing), and George's hot chocolate (it's ridiculous). My fuzzy boots. It's really only cold enough to wear them maybe twice a year.
The cold mornings, sledding, watching the snow fall from a window, your dad's roaring fires and all of us sitting in front of it because we were FREEZING! I mostly miss family holidays up there.
Fall, Winter and Spring are my favorite seasons... except for the fresh fruits and vegetables, I could do without Summer. My FAVORITE part of fall is not sweating through the day. Actually, it is driving down Van Ness in Fresno. The street has THE BEST trees. Brilliant oranges, reds, and yellows with every tint and tone in between. I also love to wear long sleeves. I have never lived anywhere that heavy sweaters were necessary in early fall so I get totally jazzed by the long sleeved t's and a cardigan. I also love to make applesauce (something my great grandma Schumacher used to do) and vegetable beef soup. Ahhhh! I made it through another summer and Fall is my reward!
Umm. Growing up in Ft. Laud., we rarely wore a lot of clothes and that was one of the hardest things for me to adapt to up here, wearing a sweater for more than an hour or two...and never having to wear one in the house. I do enjoy the cooler mornings and the fact that it's not terribly hot outside right now like the summers. Summers here feel hotter than Ft. Lauderdale; I think because you have an ocean breeze down there. Here it is stifling. I do enjoy getting to wear different clothes during the change of seasons up here, but as you see in church, I am always cold which means I have to wear some kind of a covering...that I don't like, but I hate being cold more.
I really wish it would get colder sooner in Florida.. you know, maybe in the beginning of September :) fall is my favorite season--everything seems more special in the fall, as opposed to the hot, groggy summers...
As I made my bed this morning, I couldn't help but count the pillows I put on our queen size bed every day. Before I reveal THE NUMBER, I would like to defend myself. 4 of the pillows we actually sleep on. The others-purely for the luxurious look-especially for children under 4 years old who love to use them as their own gym pit.
8 - 2 small ones, 5 normal ones, one huge one.Haha, thankfully it's not the rain! We've been having a lot of that lately! I had a great time at the wedding, thanks for inviting me to play! :)
We have 4. I always love the look of decorative pillows but I can't stand putting them up and taking them off every day. There was a movie, I think it was "Along Came Polly", that joked about this issue. Enjoy the luxury of 12 pillows. Where do you place them when you go to sleep at night?
until about a month ago it was 3 (still is if I don't make the bed). When I make the bed, there are 5: 2 shams, 2 normal, and 1 body pillow.I often joke with Ray that we need a bigger bed to make room for the pillows.
My daughter Sasha has a fun habit of climbing onto the table where I keep my purse and pulling it down and then she proceeds to "clean" it out. This happens almost daily. Well, I am now on day 3 of a lost wallet, due to this fun occurance. I am at a lost as to where else to look! I would love to have my driver's liscense back!!!
A couple months ago Dale left the house with his wallet and planner on top of the car. It fell off on a busy street.
A couple of hours later a couple drove up to our house and returned the wallet and part of the planner. They found it on the street and saw his address on his license and returned it. The wallet had everything in it, it had been run over a few times but it was fine. The planner had a bunch of missing pages.
I just found a silver dollar that Rebecca received from her great grandfather at birth in 1991. It was dated 1891, and we tho't it had been stolen when our house was broken into about 13 years ago. I just found it yesterday while cleaning out some things!!! The lost coin has been found!
A little girl I used to babysit for flushed $300 to $500 down the toilet before her mom caught her. Needless to say, I never let her out of my sight when I was in charge of her.
So glad to learn this prior to baby arrival. My memory is not the best right now, I'd say that I'll get back to you on what I've lost and well the answer would be my mind. I imagine it will come back shortly after delivery.
SO I FINALLY discovered what generations and generations have done before me. I know, I'm a bit slow at times...
Sun Tea! Its my new "green" drink. You use no energy at all to brew this summertime nectar! It's even more delicious with a few mint sprigs from my garden brewing away. Add a little simple syrup for those who like it sweet, and voila!
Whats your favorite summer-time drink, to cool off with?
This doesn't count as a fav drink. But watermelon straight from a cooler full of ice on a hot hot hot day at the beach. That's my summer time tastebud good stuff.
I love drinking water, but I also love sweet tea. My dad used to make sun tea. I bought a jar to make it in last year, but I haven't made it yet. You've inspired me.
We are going to be driving south through Florida on Thurs., Aug. 14 if you are available to meet us somewhere for supper!! We would love to see you. Brian and Alex will be with us.
