just the 2 of us... 10-01-08 02:39pm EST
So right now I type in absolute solace. This is a first, a first of being home alone in this house. Silent? Yes. Eerie? No. No sweet interuptions unless to my choosing. My little darlings are off to Disney World with my parents, camping in, yes, a real tent.
So it's just the 2 of us again, and this hasn't happened in 4 years. Heading off with my love to Savannah tomorrow to celebrate 7 years(and to avoid the 7 year itch!)

Where have you gone on any romantic getaway?
71lespaulcustomSavannah & Charleston. There's a nice tea room in Savannah -- I think this is the site: www.savannahtearoom.com/
crazy_mamaHave fun all by yourselves. How cool is that!!!
justpeachyThe mountains in TN, St. Augustine (the original, not the Bowers), on a cruise, Hawaii.
erica03I'M JEALOUS!!! But, my "7 year itch" isn't until next year. Too bad I'll have a brand new baby and will be in more desperate need to get away with my husband!
sunnydCongratulations on 7 years! Wow!! Enjoy the trip!! As far as "get-aways", we only go to Disney destinations. That is what I get for marrying a man obsessed with the Mouse and his house.
emh1990Congrats on 7 yeat!!! I remember being at you wedding. I was sooo young. As far as the "cookies" are concerned, I just thought I would change it up.
flgatorgirlOH, Savannah's so beautiful! We went there before he got shipped off. Wow, have a great time and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!
coolbeansI'll have to let you know if/when I get a romantic getaway!
curlieThat sounds WONDERFUL. Enjoy! :)
justgEnjoy your get-a-way! Seven years. Wow. Romantic get-a-way? When the last child left....
stampergirlWhat is a get-away anyway???
erica03Karys told me that she didn't smile in her picture so I got a little worried that I wouldn't want to buy it, but I was VERY happy with how it turned out. Too bad I don't like the photographer that they used as your only choice is to buy the 11x14...for $24! You have to buy a picture package in order to get the 5x7. No thanks.
greenjeansHey Steph...can't believe it has been 7 years....Jeremy and I want to do something special next summer, too, for our seventh anniversary. Savannah is WONDERFUL! So beautiful and rich in history. Did you eat at Lady and Sons? Country cooking from down south! I miss you! Sorry I haven't been on here for ever!

It's Fall! 09-22-08 08:15pm EST
Well officially, anyways. This is my favorite season (in Chicago) and when I also get the most "homesick" being here in Florida. I love this season so much I tried planning my wedding in October, outside. I crave the colors on the trees, the burnt smell in the air, the hot cups of cider stinging my nose, the crunch beneath my feet, and of course, layering up those sweaters. While the season change is more discreet here in north central Florida, I am learning to sleuth out the changes and appreciate what is surrounding me.

What are some of your favorite things of Fall? (besides the halloween candy :)
justpeachythe cool twilight period, and when the kids were younger, the earlier evenings (going to bed in daylight wasn't fun for any of us). I also enjoy the anticipation of the upcoming seasons and the way the guys are eager to talk to each other again.
bethebooI wanted to get married in October too!!! It didn't work out and we got married in (HOT HOT HOT!!) August.
crazy_mamaI was looking at my sweaters yesterday wondering when I was going to wear them. We got married in October too!!!! It was like 90 the day we got married though.
justgsweaters. socks. the smell in the air. i feel totally energized in the Fall, especially in Gainesville! Loved the post.
loislanesimmering cinnamon on the stove. it reminds me of my mom. and candy corn! i have to have those little pumpkin ones every year for some reason. fall is our favorite too. kent and i tried to plan our wedding for may but scrapped it sept. 27 because fall just felt right. got married november 9 outside in north alabama. the leaves were swirling...magical. come by anytime girl. we're usually here!
cecileI LOVE fall! It's not quite the same here as a New York fall or north fall, but it'll do! I agree with everything (except the hot cider, yuck) and I'm like Megan, I have to have the pumpkin candy corn too. Also, a cinnamon broom from Publix completes it for me. I can smell them when I go into Publix but I refuse to buy one until October when it's a little bit cooler. :)
christilmtI got so excited the other morning when I was out early and it was cool. The heat didn't feel like it was about to consume me. My favorite things...Socks, knowing Christmas is around the corner, cool breezes, and the changing of the leaves (obviously an out of state thing), and George's hot chocolate (it's ridiculous). My fuzzy boots. It's really only cold enough to wear them maybe twice a year.
christilmtp.s. How did I miss the # 1 - the crackle & pop of a fire.
erica03The cold mornings, sledding, watching the snow fall from a window, your dad's roaring fires and all of us sitting in front of it because we were FREEZING! I mostly miss family holidays up there.
sunnydFall, Winter and Spring are my favorite seasons... except for the fresh fruits and vegetables, I could do without Summer. My FAVORITE part of fall is not sweating through the day. Actually, it is driving down Van Ness in Fresno. The street has THE BEST trees. Brilliant oranges, reds, and yellows with every tint and tone in between. I also love to wear long sleeves. I have never lived anywhere that heavy sweaters were necessary in early fall so I get totally jazzed by the long sleeved t's and a cardigan. I also love to make applesauce (something my great grandma Schumacher used to do) and vegetable beef soup. Ahhhh! I made it through another summer and Fall is my reward!
stampergirlUmm. Growing up in Ft. Laud., we rarely wore a lot of clothes and that was one of the hardest things for me to adapt to up here, wearing a sweater for more than an hour or two...and never having to wear one in the house. I do enjoy the cooler mornings and the fact that it's not terribly hot outside right now like the summers. Summers here feel hotter than Ft. Lauderdale; I think because you have an ocean breeze down there. Here it is stifling. I do enjoy getting to wear different clothes during the change of seasons up here, but as you see in church, I am always cold which means I have to wear some kind of a covering...that I don't like, but I hate being cold more.
sunnydOh... I LOVE Anne of Green Gables!! Enjoy them and the time with your mother-in-law. Tell her "Hi!"
musicgirlI really wish it would get colder sooner in Florida.. you know, maybe in the beginning of September :) fall is my favorite season--everything seems more special in the fall, as opposed to the hot, groggy summers...

my number 08-18-08 08:17pm EST
As I made my bed this morning, I couldn't help but count the pillows I put on our queen size bed every day. Before I reveal THE NUMBER, I would like to defend myself. 4 of the pillows we actually sleep on. The others-purely for the luxurious look-especially for children under 4 years old who love to use them as their own gym pit.

drum roll.....

12 is my number.

what's yours?

justg8 - queen size - no children under 33.
angenymity6 - and one REALLY HUMONGO body pillow
musicgirl8 - 2 small ones, 5 normal ones, one huge one.

Haha, thankfully it's not the rain! We've been having a lot of that lately! I had a great time at the wedding, thanks for inviting me to play! :)
jdiemanNot sure, but Jaime has more than we use on there.
crazy_mama10 - 2 we use and 10 to look pretty!!!
stampergirlWow! I am deprived I guess. We have 3.
erica03
curlie5, and we use 4 of them.
amylou6 for us ....
flgatorgirlwow, have you seen Along Came Polly?
sunnydWe have 4. I always love the look of decorative pillows but I can't stand putting them up and taking them off every day. There was a movie, I think it was "Along Came Polly", that joked about this issue. Enjoy the luxury of 12 pillows. Where do you place them when you go to sleep at night?
justpeachyuntil about a month ago it was 3 (still is if I don't make the bed). When I make the bed, there are 5: 2 shams, 2 normal, and 1 body pillow.I often joke with Ray that we need a bigger bed to make room for the pillows.
cecile
kammyarmhow embarrassing that I beat everyone with...14 pillows!
auntjennywrenI'm so glad you came to the wedding! It was so wonderful! I can't wait to see the rest of the pictures. :)
stephanie08Yes. I have seen Along Came Polly, and I do think about the time I "waste" taking the pillows off and on. But they do look pretty!
jesjon1512Thats funny I thought I was bad with 9!
erica03Now you need to include a picture of these 12 "famous" pillows!
christilmt4 for us. 2 are serving as props.
emh1990College is awesome! I love it here at Faulkner! The environment I am in is amazing!
margieI think 6. For a twin bed. all in use :)

Not good. 08-14-08 03:21pm EST
My daughter Sasha has a fun habit of climbing onto the table where I keep my purse and pulling it down and then she proceeds to "clean" it out. This happens almost daily. Well, I am now on day 3 of a lost wallet, due to this fun occurance. I am at a lost as to where else to look! I would love to have my driver's liscense back!!!

What have you lost? (and hopefully found)???
justgCheck with our Charlotte...she is in the same theft ring. I hid $1,500.00 in the house. Never found it. Shhhhhhhhh!
sarA couple months ago Dale left the house with his wallet and planner on top of the car. It fell off on a busy street.
A couple of hours later a couple drove up to our house and returned the wallet and part of the planner. They found it on the street and saw his address on his license and returned it. The wallet had everything in it, it had been run over a few times but it was fine. The planner had a bunch of missing pages.
erica03Did you look in the grill? lol
stampergirlI just found a silver dollar that Rebecca received from her great grandfather at birth in 1991. It was dated 1891, and we tho't it had been stolen when our house was broken into about 13 years ago. I just found it yesterday while cleaning out some things!!! The lost coin has been found!
stampergirlA little girl I used to babysit for flushed $300 to $500 down the toilet before her mom caught her. Needless to say, I never let her out of my sight when I was in charge of her.
tamiMallory put my keys in the diaper pail when she was about 12mths. Took me three days to find them!
christilmtSo glad to learn this prior to baby arrival. My memory is not the best right now, I'd say that I'll get back to you on what I've lost and well the answer would be my mind. I imagine it will come back shortly after delivery.
justpeachyNo, sweetie, it won't be for a long while after bb's coming out party.
franksinatraOh sweet babies---Josh took Mom's keys once when he was about two, we found them stuck in a hole of our stairmaster (hours later).
rachelhave you tried the grabage can? And inside your kitchen cabinets?
sunnydI am constantly losing things since the move but I imagine I will find them as I open boxes. Woo-Hoo! Good luck on finding that wallet. :)
stephanie08the wallet is still M.I.A. I have given up and in the process of cancelling and replacing.

the new old "green" drink 06-21-08 08:05pm EST
SO I FINALLY discovered what generations and generations have done before me. I know, I'm a bit slow at times...
Sun Tea! Its my new "green" drink. You use no energy at all to brew this summertime nectar! It's even more delicious with a few mint sprigs from my garden brewing away. Add a little simple syrup for those who like it sweet, and voila!

Whats your favorite summer-time drink, to cool off with?
erica03Water. But a Cherry Limeade from Sonic is one of my favorite sweet treats!
justgTriple love Sun Tea!! Everything old is new again! May I just say that you are amazing!!!
crazy_mamaWe are smoothie people. Alittle frozen strawberries, frozen bananas and some coconut milk and you got some amazing yum yum that is so good for you!
stampergirlWater, water, water for me!
franksinatraTazo Passion tea--so good!
christilmtWhat am I missing out on? Sun Tea? Is it just that simple as brewing a pitcher in the sun?
christilmtThis doesn't count as a fav drink. But watermelon straight from a cooler full of ice on a hot hot hot day at the beach. That's my summer time tastebud good stuff.
stephanie08you have all made me so thirsty!
loislanei have found a new love for iced tea since pregnancy. i can't get enough!
sunnydI love water... and herbal tea iced down. Finding one of those varieties with mint is a double pleasure. Miss you!! Tell Matthew, "Hi!" for me!!
erica03I'm very hopeful of us getting a Friday night out when you're here! (or a Saturday)
bethebooI love drinking water, but I also love sweet tea. My dad used to make sun tea. I bought a jar to make it in last year, but I haven't made it yet. You've inspired me.
pinkpantherI love water - but the smoothie/slushies they have at my school are a close second. Not really a summer thing, but very good.
justpeachyLemonade--Yum.
justgFavorite drink? Water with a squeeze o' lemon!
sswi love sun tea. we have some "country" property in missouri, and my mom usually makes it while we're there!
flgatorgirlstraight up booze. just kidding! lol
sunshinelcYum I need to try it! I LOVE mint tea!
angenymityTroas...now that IS original!
cecileSasha's pig tails were SO cute!
erica03You put her in pigtails? Hope you got a picture of that!
bestillWe are going to be driving south through Florida on Thurs., Aug. 14 if you are available to meet us somewhere for supper!! We would love to see you. Brian and Alex will be with us.
bestillfavorite drink..."fizzy water", carbonated sugar free flavored water.
